Who: James & Sirius (knap)
What: PADFOOT.
When: Saturday evening, after this (backdated)
Where: a hallway near Omicron's office.
Warnings: TBD, not likely

It had been an emotional rollercoaster of a day, but the sudden and unexpected appearance of Padfoot had wiped every other emotion off the map. James felt like he was flying as he ran back to the castle, everything else forgotten; he had to find Sirius, find Padfoot.

That was a more difficult task than it seemed. James knew that Omicron's rule about violence had his best mate secluded somewhere, but since they weren't on compound at the moment, he had no idea where that would be. After a split second's deliberation, and agonizing that he did not have the Marauder's Map (which would have been so bloody handy at the moment), he ran to Omicron's office and practically pounded the door down, demanding to know where his friend was.

It wasn't that he was objecting to the punishment, or that he wanted to interrupt it; he highly doubted Sirius cared about that at this moment, either. Surely he would be finishing that as quickly as he could, so that he could run around as Padfoot again. Once he'd been given an idea of where Sirius would be when he finished-- a hallway not far away-- he headed for it, and paced impatiently up and down it, waiting for Sirius to come out of one of the classrooms. Merlin, he had not felt this impatient for anything in a very long time.

There was not even the slightest possibility that Prongs would fail to keep up. He had spent plenty of full moons chasing Padfoot and Moony both, and now had years and years of keeping up with the wolf on his own. Ordinarily the canines would have been his predators, but Prongs was no ordinary deer, nor was Moony an ordinary wolf, or Padfoot an ordinary dog.

He followed at full tilt, gracefully leaping over logs and underbrush and evading trees and branches. When he was transformed, running came as easily to him as breathing, animal instincts and muscles working in tandem, adrenaline and joy running through his veins.

But then Padfoot momentarily disappeared from sight. Unable to come to a full stop without crashing into the water, Prongs leapt across the stream and turned around to look; he had enough experience to know that the dog hadn't actually disappeared or managed to lose him, but was likely hiding from him, somewhere nearby.

Padfoot stayed low for only a matter of seconds. It was too hard for him to stay still for long right now. He popped out of the stream as soon as Prongs had paused, nipping at the other's legs before running a circle around him. He barked the entire time -- if he had been home, he would have been laughing. Once he was done, he rolled across the ground, getting mud and leaves in his fur.

Once he was on his paws again, he was running once more, because he knew that Prongs would play the game as long as he wanted to.

Prongs whirled around to keep Padfoot in front of him, where he had the advantage of his antlers to keep the dog at bay if need be, though he rarely used them. He didn't have a bark, but if he'd been human he'd have been laughing too, laughing and grinning. He pawed challengingly at the ground with one hoof as Padfoot rolled around, eager for him to get up so that they could run again.

And run they did, until James had lost track of time, until his excited energy was just slightly starting to burn off. He feinted to the right and then bowled the dog over again, transforming back halfway through-- and then it was James the human grappling with the dog, getting a faceful of fur as they rolled over and over. They came to a stop when they hit a bush, and James found himself on his back, the warm weight of Padfoot on top of him. He grinned up at the dog, glasses askew, and grabbed hold of his furry canine head to press a kiss right on his snout, echoing the way Sirius had greeted him. Laughing breathlessly, he hugged the dog, burying his face in Padfoot's black fur. "I fucking love you, Pads."

Padfoot let out a low whine when he suddenly found himself wrapped up in the embrace of James instead of playing with Prongs. He settled down on top of James as soon as they had finished rolling, panting loudly against James' shoulder. His tail was moving steadily, but somewhat sluggishly now, across James' legs.

As soon as James had finished kissing him, Padfoot licked a long stripe across James' cheek and then let out another heavy huff of breath before resting his head on top of James' shoulder. It was clear that he was sleepy from his run and had no intention of changing back -- or getting off of James -- any time soon.

James laughed at the slobbery kiss, playfully turning his head away, though he didn't mind it in the slightest. As he'd said at one point, before his Sirius had even arrived in the compound, he'd had a serious lack of Padfoot slobber in his life in the last few years. This reunion was much more like the one he'd expected before he'd found out what had happened to Sirius and Lily, to be tackled and slobbered on, and the fact that it had finally happened-- not just because Sirius was his brother again, but because he'd regained the ability to transform-- was utterly glorious.

He felt warm all over, from the glory of the run, from the dog lying on top of him, and from the sheer amount of love that he had for both Padfoot and the human inside him. When Padfoot had finished kissing him, he turned his head back to press kisses all over his canine face, from his nose to his ears, arms still wrapped tight around him. There was a stick digging slightly into his back, but he didn't care; he had absolutely no interest in moving. "I love you," he said again, scratching Padfoot's ears. "And also, I told you so."
