Who: James & Sirius (knap)
What: PADFOOT.
When: Saturday evening, after this (backdated)
Where: a hallway near Omicron's office.
Warnings: TBD, not likely

It had been an emotional rollercoaster of a day, but the sudden and unexpected appearance of Padfoot had wiped every other emotion off the map. James felt like he was flying as he ran back to the castle, everything else forgotten; he had to find Sirius, find Padfoot.

That was a more difficult task than it seemed. James knew that Omicron's rule about violence had his best mate secluded somewhere, but since they weren't on compound at the moment, he had no idea where that would be. After a split second's deliberation, and agonizing that he did not have the Marauder's Map (which would have been so bloody handy at the moment), he ran to Omicron's office and practically pounded the door down, demanding to know where his friend was.

It wasn't that he was objecting to the punishment, or that he wanted to interrupt it; he highly doubted Sirius cared about that at this moment, either. Surely he would be finishing that as quickly as he could, so that he could run around as Padfoot again. Once he'd been given an idea of where Sirius would be when he finished-- a hallway not far away-- he headed for it, and paced impatiently up and down it, waiting for Sirius to come out of one of the classrooms. Merlin, he had not felt this impatient for anything in a very long time.

It hadn't taken too long to fill out the paperwork. Mostly, he'd been jittery and trying to get through the damn stuff as fast as he possibly could. He didn't care about it. It was all stupid, and the scientists could go twist for all he cared. Their stupid fucking anti-violence rules. Just because they wanted to be twats and make it so they were the only ones that enacted violence didn't meant that Sirius had to comply. So he scribbled his way through, and then burst out of the classroom as soon as he was done.

And ran almost directly into James. Sirius let out a mad burst of laughter almost right away, and then caught James around the shoulders, tugging him closer so that he could press both his hands to James' face and kiss him briefly. He was still laughing the entire time.

"Did you see that?" he asked energetically.

James had expected to be tackled and slobbered on, but he'd expected it more from Padfoot than from Sirius. He didn't care, either way: the amount of love he felt for them (Padfoot and Sirius were one and the same, really) was making his heart threaten to swell and burst out of his chest.

He burst out laughing when Sirius kissed him, and wrapped his arms tightly around his brother, fingers tangling into his hair and his robes. "I did," he said. "I saw it. I saw him. Padfoot is back!"

"We should go for a walk," Sirius said almost immediately, still talking far too loud and far too fast -- and he knew that he had to sound exactly like a dog, but, again, his propensity to care was so slow. He had forgotten how good it felt to be Padfoot, and all he wanted to do right now was get out onto the grounds and run on four legs as fast and as hard as he could.

It was difficult for him to even stand still at the moment, even though he was overjoyed that James was just as happy as he was.

"No, mate," James said, grabbing hold of Sirius's hand and starting to pull him back towards the exit at a run. "Not a walk. We're going for a run."

He had taken Padfoot for walks, of course, to throw tennis balls for him and the like. He most definitely did want to spend some time tussling the dog in his human form, but they were far too hyped up for that. What he wanted more than anything in the world right now was to get outside, transform with Sirius, and run. Padfoot and Prongs had been separated for far, far too long.

Sirius let out another bark of laughter and simply tried to keep up with James when he started to maneuver them back toward the exit.

The moment that he was outside again, he transformed. He didn't even have to think about it anymore -- that was the beauty of it. All the time he couldn't, all he could do was think -- was trying to theorize about what it was that made him the dog, and how it had all worked. But like this, it just was. It was second nature. It was as simple as breathing.

He took off a breakneck pace the moment he was on four paws, ripping across the grounds. He didn't run terribly far before turning back around in a circle, eagerly looking for where James could be.

There was no more talking needed, because they were on the same page. James wanted out, out into the fresh air, out of his human form. He wanted to be running on four legs with his long-lost four-legged friend.

He transformed only moments after Sirius, taking the rest of the steps in one big jump, and raced after the black dog. He cared nothing for whether anyone saw them, whether they thought it strange to see a deer chasing a dog, whether they realized they were animagi. The secret mattered much less here than at home, anyway, since all the scientists already knew.

When Padfoot turned around, Prongs practically bowled him over; he didn't have his head lowered to use his antlers, because that would hurt, but he hit Sirius with his chest and forelegs and then partially jumped over him, before whirling around for another go. He was a deer, but he was a deer accustomed to playing with canines. This rough and tumble was as natural to him as it was in their human form.

He took the hit from the deer easily, but then turned about, crouching low for a moment, and growling playfully when the stag came at him a second time. He evaded that hit, and then took off across the grounds. He didn't hold back this time, but went all out, speeding through the grass and then through the trees. He didn't stop for an instant to see where Prongs, to check if he was behind him. He knew the stag could keep up.

There was a brief instant, an inclination that were more instinct than emotion, where he missed Moony, where he wondered where Moony was. The forest was Moony's domain in the end, and they all knew it, and the smells everywhere just made him want to go looking for the wolf.

But it was daytime, and that wasn't the wolf's time, so he contented himself with landing in a stream of water and then tucking down, waiting for the stag to come by.

There was not even the slightest possibility that Prongs would fail to keep up. He had spent plenty of full moons chasing Padfoot and Moony both, and now had years and years of keeping up with the wolf on his own. Ordinarily the canines would have been his predators, but Prongs was no ordinary deer, nor was Moony an ordinary wolf, or Padfoot an ordinary dog.

He followed at full tilt, gracefully leaping over logs and underbrush and evading trees and branches. When he was transformed, running came as easily to him as breathing, animal instincts and muscles working in tandem, adrenaline and joy running through his veins.

But then Padfoot momentarily disappeared from sight. Unable to come to a full stop without crashing into the water, Prongs leapt across the stream and turned around to look; he had enough experience to know that the dog hadn't actually disappeared or managed to lose him, but was likely hiding from him, somewhere nearby.

Padfoot stayed low for only a matter of seconds. It was too hard for him to stay still for long right now. He popped out of the stream as soon as Prongs had paused, nipping at the other's legs before running a circle around him. He barked the entire time -- if he had been home, he would have been laughing. Once he was done, he rolled across the ground, getting mud and leaves in his fur.

Once he was on his paws again, he was running once more, because he knew that Prongs would play the game as long as he wanted to.

Prongs whirled around to keep Padfoot in front of him, where he had the advantage of his antlers to keep the dog at bay if need be, though he rarely used them. He didn't have a bark, but if he'd been human he'd have been laughing too, laughing and grinning. He pawed challengingly at the ground with one hoof as Padfoot rolled around, eager for him to get up so that they could run again.

And run they did, until James had lost track of time, until his excited energy was just slightly starting to burn off. He feinted to the right and then bowled the dog over again, transforming back halfway through-- and then it was James the human grappling with the dog, getting a faceful of fur as they rolled over and over. They came to a stop when they hit a bush, and James found himself on his back, the warm weight of Padfoot on top of him. He grinned up at the dog, glasses askew, and grabbed hold of his furry canine head to press a kiss right on his snout, echoing the way Sirius had greeted him. Laughing breathlessly, he hugged the dog, burying his face in Padfoot's black fur. "I fucking love you, Pads."

Padfoot let out a low whine when he suddenly found himself wrapped up in the embrace of James instead of playing with Prongs. He settled down on top of James as soon as they had finished rolling, panting loudly against James' shoulder. His tail was moving steadily, but somewhat sluggishly now, across James' legs.

As soon as James had finished kissing him, Padfoot licked a long stripe across James' cheek and then let out another heavy huff of breath before resting his head on top of James' shoulder. It was clear that he was sleepy from his run and had no intention of changing back -- or getting off of James -- any time soon.

James laughed at the slobbery kiss, playfully turning his head away, though he didn't mind it in the slightest. As he'd said at one point, before his Sirius had even arrived in the compound, he'd had a serious lack of Padfoot slobber in his life in the last few years. This reunion was much more like the one he'd expected before he'd found out what had happened to Sirius and Lily, to be tackled and slobbered on, and the fact that it had finally happened-- not just because Sirius was his brother again, but because he'd regained the ability to transform-- was utterly glorious.

He felt warm all over, from the glory of the run, from the dog lying on top of him, and from the sheer amount of love that he had for both Padfoot and the human inside him. When Padfoot had finished kissing him, he turned his head back to press kisses all over his canine face, from his nose to his ears, arms still wrapped tight around him. There was a stick digging slightly into his back, but he didn't care; he had absolutely no interest in moving. "I love you," he said again, scratching Padfoot's ears. "And also, I told you so."
