Hestia would be lying if she said she wasn't the least bit nervous. She had come across the other Remii in passing, but never actually sat down with one. She did it on purpose. It hurt too much to see him there and to know he wasn't hers, that he had no idea of who she was. It had taken a while, but the notion that her Remus would probably never show had settled in. She had her daughter which was more than most people had at the compound. But her husband and son, no. In her heart, she felt they weren't coming.

And the first step of moving on and accepting the inevitability was facing her fear. A Remus. One that knew nothing about her or her children, but expressed interest in his alternate self.

Hestia stood in her toga, smelling of fresh flowers and honey. She had been training all day and she really wasn't feeling like her younger self. Most of her time was now spent behind a desk than out on the streets and she felt it. Her body was sore but with the cool breeze, she was still able to relax. Hestia sat down at the foot of Zeus and placed a bottle of wine down beside her, waiting for a Remus.

Remus had a moment of clarity last night while he was caught between sleep and wakefulness. As much as it grieved him to say it, Nymphadora and Teddy's leaving had given him a gift. They had entered his life and had shown him that things could get better, that people loved and needed him despite his 'furry little problem.' While he had his Marauders, this sort of love was different. It wasn't the slaps on the back, the congratulatory love after a job well done. This was the love of a family.

Having only a glimpse of that made him realize that he needed to reach out to the families of his alternative selves. While he didn't have a Dora, a Teddy, a Theodora, a Hestia, or an Eris, other versions of himself did, and if he couldn't have his family there was no reason that he couldn't reach out and help them have a bit of theirs in their lives. However, his reasoning wasn't all together altruistic. He wanted to know more about his brothers as Remus from the 'party' world called them and he wanted the company they could provide.

So, after gathering food together and placing it in a homemade basket he had found as he promised he would, Remus turned his feet in the direction of the statue of Zeus. The cool night air chilled him slightly as he walked, causing him to hug the toga closer around his scarred body as his curly hair waved in the slight breeze. He could dimly make out a dark shape huddled at the base of the statue and instinctively knew it was Hestia.

"Thanks for agreeing to this," he said when he drew near enough to talk. A faint whiff of honey and freshly cut flowers reached him, the sweet scent smoothing out some of the tension in his shoulders. He gave her a lopsided grin and gestured to his basket. "I hope you're not afraid of trying new things."

Hestia could picks out Remus from the crowd just by his frame and the way he walked. It was similar in a way somehow only she understood. "Well...we did make a deal." Hestia hadn't forgotten as she showed the very modern can of Red Bull. She returned his lopsided grin with one of her bright smiles. Trying new things. Her dark eyes looked to the basket.

"I don't know if you've heard, but I'm pretty fond of adventures. Even little ones." Which was true and partly why she loved her job so much. Hestia stood up and and took a few steps closer to get a better look. He looked young. "Sorry if..I'm acting a little weird...its my first time actually sitting down with another Remus." Hestia could only imagine how crazy she looked studying his face. "Anyways...uhm...we should sit down."

Hestia sat back down and patted to a space next to her. "Come on then, hit me with your best shot" She couldn't refrain from singing out her last line, knowing it was a bit cheesy but still very Hestia.

Remus stayed still as she rose, letting her study his features. He briefly wondered what it was like for someone to meet an alternate version of someone they married. He could pick out similarities between his brothers, but they each had their own idiosyncrasies that made them different.

"This is my first time sitting down with another Hestia," Remus quipped, navy eyes taking their turn to study the woman peering up at him. He could see a bit of the Hestia he knew in her features, but the piercing gaze and halting confidence of someone who knew exactly what they wanted in their life but was struggling to come to terms without it was all her.

Realizing he was staring, Remus quickly folded his lean frame on the ground next to her as his cheeks blazed. Her singing caused the corners of his mouth to lift up in a grin as he situated the basket between his long legs. "Fire away, eh?" he joked, matching her sing-song speech. He drummed his fingers against his leg before choosing his question. "Why Remus?" he asked, starting with one of the biggest questions.

Hestia let out a small laugh, coupled with a bid. "Fire awaaaay" Ever so abruptly, Hestia's horrible singing stopped. "Have to hand it to you there. Certainly hit me with your best shot." She gave a small smile, thinking of a kind way to explain the situation that had unfolded years ago. "It wasn't necessarily love at first sight. In my world, magic is dying out. The ministry was even giving out incentives to those who were magically capable, married each other, and had...gifted children." Hestia tilted her head and looked at Remus. "I was close to Lily and the marauders during my school years, so Remus and I were already mates but...nothing more."

Shifting a bit, she pursed her lips, making a small quiet clicking sound before explaining any further. "After school was over, everyone was getting married and having children, for their reasons. Except me and Remus. I was going through my DMLE training while going out on the evenings. Naturally, because Remus was not married or had children, we hung out quite a bit. He became my best friend. Then one night...Halloween...all of our friends had left. We had too much tequila. Two months later, I'm pregnant with twins."

Hestia let out a sigh. "We waited to get married but by then we had become so...complacent that I'm not even sure it was for love. He was having a hard time finding anyone that could look past his furry little problem and yet, he still used it against me when I said it didn't bother me."

Puffing out her cheeks, she gave a nod and released her sigh. "Why Remus? Because he's my best friend." Whetheror not love was involved, it was something Hestia would never know, which was something she was slowly learning to let go of.

"Why do you feel complacent?"

"Did you love him? At any point during it?" Remus asked, reaching a hand up to ward off the glare from the low hanging sun. Remus loosely clasped his hands in his lap as he listened to Hestia talk, smoothly transitioning his gaze between her face and his hands as he talked. He wasn't all too surprised when Hestia said that Remus had married her after they had conceived the twins; it was the honorable thing to do. Based on his previous short relationship ad how that had made him feel, Remus hoped that he had in this other world loved Hestia.

He sucked in a breath at her question and studied his hands. "It seems that for every two steps I take forward I take two right back to where I was," he started, "I've been caught in the middle here for longer than I can tell. I met Nymphadora from colour world pretty much as soon as I got here. We," he broke off and shifted his weight, a shadow briefly flickering across his face, "dated for a while until her future husband showed up. It didn't help that she was also living with another Remus."

His lips curled up in a rueful smile as he remembered his first few weeks at the compound. Things had happened fast, too fast for him to grasp what was actually happening before he was in the middle of things. "It was a case of the wrong Remuses, and that's not considering her son. I had met the boy, but unlike 'colour' and 'party' Remuses, I didn't have a hold on him. So, in a nutshell, I had to stop caring. It was getting too hard to keep things straight and too many hours were spent puzzling out what was right here and back home to sleep properly at night. How did you choose your children's names?"

Hestia frowned. "At one point, I did. I do. I don't know." Biting her lower lip, she glanced up at Remus and gave a shrug. "...when I came from...I had no clue if he loved me or not. It felt like...we had been complacent for so long that...we just lost our way and we were just coping with one another. He stopped being affectionate and.." Another shrug, Hestia shifted again, voicing out her family problems for the first time to anyone. "I loved him, but where we stood currently, I have no clue." It hurt to a point to say it all out loud. She was not only saying it, but admitting it to herself.

Letting him speak, she studied his face one more, glancing down at his hands that he seemed to be staring at. "Dating hmm?" Nudging him, she offered a small smile. Hestia continued to listen and couldn't help but to feel sorry for him at the same time. He had gotten wrapped up in so much so fast that it seemed he merely just let go of it all. "That sounds understandable. It just feels like...we're conflicted with our life back at home and how it should be and how things could be here. Guilt, I suppose."

"My babies? Well there is Eris Lupin, my little girl. She's here but not a baby no more. Then her twin brother, Branwen Lupin, who is much like his father. Both are Greek names since mine is Greek as well...which is really fitting here isn't it?"

Opening a bottle of wine, she took a swig and handed it over to Remus.

"Do you think you're capable of finding happiness here?"

Remus chuckled and dropped his hands behind him. "Conflicted is the best way to say it," he acknowledged, nodding at her. Figuring out what to do about the lives they had left behind and the lives they were creating here. He had felt like he was stealing from his brothers, and perhaps it was for the best that nothing had worked out. It gave him a chance to start over.

"It's like this world was created for you and yours, eh?" he gently teased, his fingers wrapping around the bottle as she handed it to him. He leaned back on his hand as he took a healthy gulp of the Grecian wine. "Perhaps, I think. It depends on if you want it or not, or if you're able to accept the fact that things are different here. Perhaps it's not in the cards for all of us."

He glanced down into the bottle and set it between them. "What's your son like? I haven't met Eris yet. I've seen her around, but," he trailed off, sheepish. It was a bit unsettling when the majority of your alternate world children were around your age or older.

"Oh I would like to think so. All the wine, brilliant food, and training that is finally getting me back into shape." Hestia gave a nod in agreeing with his opinion. "That makes much more sense. Some want their old lives and other are looking to start over new."

Hestia leaned back to rest against the foot of Zeus. "Branwen? When I was taken, he was only eight or nine. He was a quiet boy, very intelligent, opinionated but quiet. Unlike Eris and myself, he was tidy and organized. And Eris...is my mini me, just without the marriage or kids part. As a little girl, she had such an appetite for adventure. Wasn't afraid to get dirty. Now...she's older...than...when I remember her but she's happy from what I can tell. She's a handful."

Hestia couldn't help but to grin. She was happy her daughter wasn't tied down with marriage or children, that she was free to do as she pleased. She was happy her daughter had such a strong personality. Catching his eyes with hers, she offered a smile. "I think she's about your age, actually." Laughing again, she reached for the wine bottle and took another sip. "How old are you anyways? Also...if you had to choose...Rolling Stones or the Beatles?"

"She sounds like she's a pistol," Remus laughed, his teeth flashing in the dying light as he caught sight of her eyes over the grin on Hestia's face. She might not be able to tell if she loved her husband any more, but he could tell that she loved her children with every ounce of being in her. He tried to picture Branwen, his quiet head bent over a project, and shook his head as the picture failed to form.

"What's it like, having children?" he asked, tapping out a rhythm on his knee. "I'm twenty, possibly twenty-one. I was on my way to Harry's one month celebration, but it's... August here, yeah? Fuck if I know." His cheeks tinged slightly from a combination of the wine and the language, but he shook his head and moved on. "Rolling Stones, but I'd take a few of the Beatles' early singles."

"Yeah well..." There was a hint of an old Hestia devious smirk as she thought to herself. Eris was all Hestia. "Its tiring. You sacrifice a lot. But I loved...love every minute of it. Gives me an excuse to do the fun things like...arts and crafts and food fights."

"Bloody hell you're so young!" She gave him a little shove and began laughing a little. "Fucking jealous now. Everyone has been taken when they're young and I get taken when I'm bloody well old." She eyes him, biting her lower lip as he answered her question. "Oh thank Merlin. I'm the same way. Love me some Jagger."

She turned to face Remus and tilted her head. "Did you have ambitions of having a family of your own?"

"Well, they have to get most of us young or else they won't get us at all," Remus said, a dark shadow flickering across his face as he belatedly realized what he had said. It didn't make it less true - most of his friends were soon to be dead, betrayed, or imprisoned in other words. "If it's any consolation, you don't look as old as you are, however old that might be."

He gestured towards the basket and nudged it to her, indicating that she could take her pick of the fruit and dried meats he had found to make an impromptu picnic for them to share. "I was incredibly jealous of James and Lily when they had Harry," he shared, taking another sip of the wine, "but I never thought it would happen for me with my condition. It's not just my fear of passing it on that stopped me; how could I support them? But now, after hearing about all of the families I have elsewhere? Yes, I'd like to have one of my own.

Simple question, but what's your favorite color?"
