For the most part, Victorien liked this place. The thing he liked most about it -- the thing that had almost immediately stopped him from even questioning whether it was good or bad -- was the fact that Theo had parents here. It was fun for him, too; he had plenty of family here, even if they weren't from his universe, and there was no end of things to do. But he still probably would have harbored some objections to the compound, if not for the fact that having parents was something that never would have happened for Theo back home.

So he'd ended up arguing with his scientist over the morality of a Christmas gift, of all things, instead of his actual existence here. He'd been aware of how slightly weird that was even as he was doing it, but he'd ignored it. It had not yet occurred to him that there could be an even more serious downside to this place: the fact that Theo's parents had to find out that they died, and that their daughter didn't know them. That hadn't been getting in the way of anything with her dad, so he hadn't even noticed; it was only coming up now that her mum was here.

And of course, now that they were faced with the problem, Victorien felt rather stupid for not anticipating it. He knew how to calm Theo down, though. Writing didn't work very well, but a big jug of booze (which he'd been really wanting to try, anyway -- how many people could say they'd actually had ancient Greek wine?) and some company ought to do the trick.

"Theo?" he called out, opening the door to her house. He shut it behind him, then added unnecessarily, "It's me."

"I know you would," V said, shaking his head. "You'd wear me like a man-steak coat. You could probably fit two and a half of you, or one of you and one boy-you. He's not nearly as tiny as you are."

Girl-him, he'd been pleased to discover, was also very tall. And unsurprisingly blonde and beautiful, considering their heritage. "I like our alternates, as well," he added. "Even if they are, you know. They're like automatic friends, because how can you not be friends with yourself? Of course," he continued, "Odds are there's a world where I actually am evil Prince Charming and you really are a dirty pirate hooker, so I may have to take that back."

He laughed, but then sobered a bit. "No, I can imagine, I think. Maybe it'd have been different if we showed up here younger." Or if she had, at least, but he would have found it really weird to be significantly older than her. It was a really good thing they'd shown up from around the same time.

“Oh, absolutely. You’d make such a flawless skin suit, V. And it’d probably fluctuate with the temperature, so it’d be brill,” she responded.

“They’re incredible,” she agreed. Theo absolutely adored girl-V and boy-her. Even if they made things a little odd in terms of the sorts of thoughts their marriage sparked. “Ooooh, I seriously hope so. That’d be the greatest world ever. I’m missing my life’s calling, I think. Dirty pirate hookering is the most perfectly suited occupation for me.”

“I’m glad we didn’t. This is a good age," she said, then grinned. "Of course, I may not have gotten porn for Christmas if I'd been a bit younger."

"Why would it fluctuate with the temperature?" V asked, entertained by the notion even though he didn't quite understand the logic. "I'm not sure I like the idea of evil me so much. But, if he were around, people could always make him into a skin suit and I'd survive, so there's that."

He lifted the jug, which he had been ignoring for a bit, and drank before offering her another drink. "I think it might've been fun to run around here as kids. But I suppose they already had one set of us like that, the ones with the crayoning skills." And, based on what had happened, it seemed like the scientists were interested in messing around with their relationship, which was less possible when they were younger. Had they chosen them at this age just for that? That was a weird thought. "That, and obviously the porn thing."

Theo laughed at the question. “Well, it’d obviously shrink with cool weather and expand with warm weather,” she offered with a wink. “I don’t know if I’d want to live inside of evil you, though. The evil might rub off on me, and I don’t think it’d be good to have an evil metamorphmagus running amok.”

She accepted the drink willingly, very much enjoying the fabulous Greek wine. “Oh, definitely. I think I’m glad they’ve left, though. To be honest,” she said, shrugging. “I wouldn’t want to be accused of being a bad example.”
