Who: Seamus Finnigancan and Ginny Weasleyheir
What: Christmas gift exchanging!
Where: Ginny's Unit in Pie
When: Thursday Evening; "Christmas Eve"
Rating: C for Cute
Status: In progress

It was going to be wonderful, Ginny told herself for the millionth time that day. Her room was decorated in twinkling fairy lights that she'd procured at the start of the world, the dent in the wall had been repaired, and everything was looking fantastic for the start of her and Seamus' gift exchange. She'd agonized for hours about what to get for him; desperately seeking something both material and sentimental that simultaneously had function, and when she had finally located that one item, she almost wanted to hit herself. How much more obvious could it be?

She had bought it on the spot earlier in the day, before heading back to her block to prepare for the night. Ginny sincerely hoped that her charms would work, as she knew that the thought put into this would mean more than anything. There wasn't much complexity of them, but a lot of research, and she set off the first charm, one that had the lights twinkle and small bells chime in time to the music of O Holy Night as she went to answer her door.

"Happy Christmas," Ginny greeted with a grin, stepping back to allow Shay into her unit. "We're going to church."

Seamus nodded with a bit of a frown- it was true. In fact, there was probably a bit too much truth to that statement in the times they were from.

"Alright, I'll go first?" he suggested. Seamus suddenly felt a burst of nervousness now that it came time to give her his gift. He hoped she didn't take it the wrong way, that it wouldn't freak her out or something. Seamus hadn't considered the sort of implications that come with giving a girl a ring when he bought it, but maybe he should have. It was too late now, Seamus would just have to see how she took it.

Seamus slipped his hand into his pocket, but before he took out the package, he looked at Ginny. "I hope- don't take it like I'm jumping ahead or anything like that," he said nervously. "There's an explanation that goes with it," he told her as he presented her with the small, square package.

Ginny looked at him curiously, her brow furrowing just slightly as he spoke. And then her heart stopped beating as she looked at the small box that she took wordlessly. She'd seen a ring box before, knew the size and shape of this box was in line with the ones she had seen and with a small smile, she opened it.

"Shay," she breathed, gazing down at it. The ring looked familiar, as if she had seen the shape of it before, but she couldn't place what it was called. "It's beautiful."

Never had Ginny considered someone buying her a ring, whether it was a friend or someone she was quickly falling for. Suddenly, an image of a muggle friend Birgit came to mind, of a ring she'd been given from her Mum. "A Claddagh ring? That's what it's called, right?"

Seamus watched Ginny's face anxiously as she opened the present, and then broke into a grin when she said it was beautiful.

"Yeah, it's named after an old fishing village in Galway where they first started making rings like this about three hundred years ago or something like that," he told her. "And there's a lot of meaning to it," Seamus explained. "You see, the heart's symbolizes, well, love of course, the hands are for friendship, and the crown is for loyalty," he told her. "And those are the three things you need to have a good relationship," Seamus said and then smiled at her. "Which...I think we have them," he told her and smiled a little more. "And the way you wear it is important to," Seamus said. "If you're not married, you wear it on your right hand with the tip of the heart pointing outwards if your heart's open to love, and with the tip pointing inwards if you're...already in love..." he said. "Or just, you know, a relationship," Seamus added hastily.

"My Mum has one of these," Seamus told her. "But not from my Dad, some families will have really old ones, heirlooms, you know, and they pass them down from mother to daughter, so my Mum actually got hers from her Mum," Seamus said. "But it doesn't always have to be given to a girl by a mother, you can get it from anyone- anyone who really cares about you," Seamus told her, smiling again. "It just...always seemed like a nice tradition, I thought you'd like it," he told her.

"I love it," she said reverently, smiling up at Shay. "This is the most thoughtful, wonderful present I've ever received. Thank you." Ginny leaned up slightly to kiss him, beaming all the while. When it ended, she gave the box to Shay.

"Help me put it on?" She asked, holding out her right hand. "Tip inwards, because it's wonderful and symbolic and sweet and I love you so much and want everyone to see it." The words had flowed directly from her mind to her mouth, with no thought process in between, and Ginny froze, eyes still on the box.

"Oh, my God." Her face flamed for a moment, reliving the last minute. "Did I say that out loud?"

Outwardly, yes, she was mortified she let that out so easily, but inwardly, Ginny breathed a sigh of contentment. It felt amazing to say. She had felt something strong for Shay before the first time they'd even kissed, and had known for at least a few days that her affection for him was more than just of fancy. "I...you know what? I don't care that I said it like that, because it's true. I love you, Shay."

Seamus felt a rush of relief and happiness come over him when Ginny said she loved it, which was really a very good feeling. "I'm so glad you like it," Seamus told her.

"Of course," he said. Seamus took the ring gingerly between his thumb and pointer finger and gently pushed it onto her ring finger. When Ginny began to speak again, he looked up at her. At first, he wasn't quite sure if he heard her correctly- did she say what he thought she said? That she loved him? Well, her reaction after sort of confirmed it, Seamus opened his mouth to say something, but then she went on talking and said it again, a whole lot more clearly.

He wished that there was a better way to describe it, since it was so bloody cliche, but Seamus was no poet, and the best way he could thing of to explain what was going on with his chest was that his heart skipped a beat, and that it was racing pretty fast now to catch up. "I love you too, Gin," Seamus told her, his voice strong and absolutely certain.

Her cheeks almost hurt from the smile that was sure to split her face in two, and as he slid the ring in her finger, Ginny's heart began to pick up speed. "You do?" She asked stupidly. Of course he wouldn't say it if he didn't mean it; the words wouldn't make her feel so weak if they weren't genuine and much to her surprise, tears sprung to her eyes. "Not that I don't believe it, but...it's...I didn't expect it to happen."

Forgetting all sorts of proper behavior for, Ginny launched herself into his lap, kissing him again. "Ooh," she said breathlessly. "Your presents." She grabbed the wrapped package and bag. "Happy Christmas."

"Yes," Seamus said, take her hands in his and giving them a little squeeze. "I'm positive," he told her.

Seamus laughed a bit as she jumped into his lap. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her on the lips. Honestly, Seamus had almost forgotten all about his present as well. He grinned and opened his presents from Ginny. "Oh!" he said excitedly. "This is brilliant! My Dad had one just like this," he said. Because of that, Seamus knew exactly how to use it. After checking it to make sure the film was in it and ready, he quickly held it up to his face and snapped a candid picture of Ginny. "Cheese!" he said, precisely at the moment he snapped the picture though. Grinning, Seamus took the Polaroid out of the slot at the bottom and began to shake it dry.

"Did he?" Ginny laughed as he took her picture. "Oi! This is our adventure book," she reprimanded with a grin, gently taking the camera. Leaning against his chest, she said, "Now look like you like me," and snapped one of her own, waving the picture when it came out.

As it dried, she opened the scrapbook to show Shay what was already in it. Most of the ten photos in it were from their time in New York, both dressed in their garb from the era, and one was from Atlantic City. The others were from the past few days, ugly sweaters abounding. She smiled happily, holding the photograph out for him to see. "It turned out really nicely."
