The Raffle

Alicia gave Adrian’s hand a squeeze and leaned up to press a chaste kiss to his lips, just for good luck and to steel herself off. This was by far not the first time that she had had to speak in front of this many people, but it was the first time that some of the focus on her hadn’t been entirely for the Foundation. Smoothing down the grey dress she had worn in Rome, she stepped up onto the podium, and cleared her throat, before casting a slight Sonorus on herself.

“Good evening,” she started, and stopped herself before she wiped her hands on her thighs again. “And thank you all for coming here tonight. Six years ago, when The Daniel Fawley Foundation was founded, we had never thought it would be more than us helping a handful of families to get back on their feet after suffering losses due to circumstances that most of them didn’t and probably won’t ever understand. Tonight, six years later, I am proud to say, that we have done so much more than that. During the annual trips to the Hogwarts express, the children have been introduced to people in a world they know nothing about. We have a nationwide network of people familiar with adolescent magic ready to step in with guidance and advice. We have provided financial need to those who couldn’t afford the materials required for school, and in the past couple of years, we have seen children we helped grown up and reaching out to help those who now are where they once were. That is just to name a few things, but one thing is clear, and that is that we couldn’t have done it without you.” Gesturing to the display of donations, she continued. “We have received an astounding amount of donations tonight, and not just for the raffle. Please, go take a look, so credit can be duly given.” Then she gestured to the jar with the raffle tickets. “On the raffle tickets alone, we have raised more than two thousand Galleons, which is…” She grinned and shook her head. “You people amaze me, in the best of all possible ways. So with that, and with a great thank you to Seamus for letting us occupy his pub tonight, to Dominic working his magic on the surroundings, to all the volunteers, to the participants, the donators and those who bought tickets; thank you so incredibly much. Now, let’s get some people raffled off, shall we?”
