Q-Topia
Who: Anyone who is queer, or questioning. (No allies, please!)
What: Q-Topia!!
Where: The Roost, Finnigan's
When: Sunday night, starting at 7pm
Rating: SFW as far as I know?

Romeo was excited for the first meeting of Q-Topia. The chairs were in place, the projector set up and the movie ready: But I'm A Cheerleader was a classic queer movie and it was funny enough to break some of the ice.

After setting the People Bingo cards on a nearby table, Romeo went over and checked on the food. The mini tacos were being kept nice and warm with a nice little charm, and the jalapeño poppers were ready next to a bowl of ranch dressing for dipping. There was nothing to do but wait for people to arrive.

OOC Note: Anyone is welcome to join the thread. Romeo has requested that allies respect this queer safe space, though obviously he has no way of enforcing this, so characters are on the honor system. Feel free to start your own threads under the headings in the comments!

Ernie was still worried about Justin, but for now he was well. Ernie tried to get into the swing of things and headed for the food to settle his rumbling stomach, reaching out to taste one of the mini tacos. They were so good, he ended up eating nearly a dozen.

"You have got to try these," he said to the person next to him. "They're mouth-watering."

Charlie reached over and grabbed one, intrigued. "Okay, yes, that's really good," he said, having popped one in his mouth. Any and all extra food for a night spent on his feet was good news as far as he was concerned.

He wasn't going to be able to stay long, but Romeo hadn't been demeaning when he'd told him his sexuality, or lack thereof, so he'd decided to stop by.

"Actually this all looks really good," he said, looking at the other offerings.

Ernie grinned when his suggestion was taken. "Hey, a good spread is a sign of a good gathering. Why do you think we Hufflepuffs roomed near the kitchen?"

He'd recognized the ginger man from Wingbeat, but he couldn't remember if they'd ever been introduced - he met so many people through the hospital and sometimes plain felt like he knew everyone already from tales people told. "I'm not sure if we ever met properly. I'm Ernie MacMillan, a healer at St. Mungo's. You're Charlie Weasley - I love Wingbeat, by the way."

"Oh, it's not just Hufflepuffs that appreciate the food, although I've got to agree the fewer stairs had to be helpful," he said with a grin.

The other man looked faintly familiar, but so many people passed through the club that he really couldn't remember them all. "I don't think we have," he said, holding out his hand. "Nice to meet you, Ernie. Your face seems sort of familiar, but I don't think we've been introduced. I'm glad you like the club though. It's a bit of a change from dragon wrangling."

"Oh, I never doubted other Houses could appreciate good food, only that we're the ones smart enough to house ourselves near it," he added with a wink.

He shook Charlie's hand and grinned widely. "Yeah, though I guess maybe dragon wrangling helped prepare you for some of the worse drunk blokes in the club, right? A little wrestling here, and a grapple there," he said, raising his fists and moving them in some sort of approximation of what he presumed to be 'dragon wrangling', which was really nothing of the sort but was likely pretty hilarious to watch. "And hey, drunk wizards don't spew fire at you. Definite bonus there."

Charlie snorted, amused at Ernie's little pantomime. "Dragon care isn't all that hands-on to be honest. Well, not directly on the dragons anyway. But I do appreciate the lack of fire-breathing in the customers, I'll admit. Means I tend to keep my hair all of the time, which is always nice!" There had been a couple of incidents over the years where he'd lost assorted patches of head and body hair when he'd been burnt, or nearly burnt. He'd spent several months with his head basically shaved after a near miss one time until it got colder and growing it back only seemed sensible.

"Drunk wizards do throw up on me sometimes though, don't appreciate that as much." Charlie honestly tried to keep an eye on anyone getting too drunk and tried to sober them up a bit with bread he kept around for the purpose, but it didn't always work.

Ernie's eyes widened. "You mean you've lost your hair before? Merlin's beard, that's nearly a crime - you've a gorgeous head of hair there, by the way."

He winced, thinking of drunk wizards and throwing up - something he'd witnessed and even helped with far too often. It didn't help that he knew people who definitely couldn't hold their liquor. "Yeah, I wouldn't either. I can promise you that I won't be one of them - I usually don't get too drunk when I'm out and about, just when I'm with friends. So what do you think of this thing so far?"

Charlie had begun to nod immediately at Ernie's comment, but the smile faded slightly at the compliment. It had always been a risk, coming here, where most people probably fitted into the gay or bisexual bits of the bracket. "Yeah, came fucking close to a burnt scalp, but thankfully one of the guys put me out in time. And, er, thanks, family trait," he said, his smile tight as he studied the food very intently.

"Well, that's a start. If only everybody had your attitude," he said, slightly wistful. The vomit was definitely one of his least favourite aspects of his new job.

He glanced around at the room, very plain compared to some of the set-ups in the Roost, although the big screen was intriguing. "Not sure. I can't stay long, gotta go open up, but I guess it's a good thing. The night at the club's all well and good but it doesn't suit everybody," he said with a shrug. If he hadn't have been working he might not have liked Queer night himself. A bit too much throwing yourself at other people for his preferences.

Ernie noticed the tightness in Charlie and figured it must be a sensitive subject for him, perhaps there was some lingering trauma around the incident. He felt bad - he'd meant the compliment, especially since he'd often secretly wished he could pull off red hair (he'd tried a spell once, but it just didn't suit his complexion).

"It would be a lot easier, but I suspect sort of boring too," he offered with a shrug.

He looked around after Charlie, turning back when the man spoke again. "That's all right, at least you came for a little bit. And I've a few friends who aren't quite club people, not to mention that sometimes what's at the club isn't quite what we're looking for at a given time. But here, well, at least we get to spend time with people who get where we come from, you know? We all feel sort of different from everyone else, and here, we can feel different together."

"Yeah, I've been sort of wondering about that, if there was a way to make the club even more accessible. A quieter area or some shit, dunno." He shrugged. It was only a stray thought but he'd been wondering if there was a way to work it successfully.

"I dunno, I'm still feeling a bit odd-man-out to be honest. I'm, er, asexual, which is fucking weird to say out loud because I only discovered the word a little while ago. Although I've just figured out the literally giving no fucks pun, which is absolutely fucking beautiful," he said, suddenly cheered up at his realisation. It was something he'd half said before but never quite realised the significance of until now and was very pleased with himself.

Ernie made a humming sound as he thought - he'd always been a good person to bounce ideas off of. "Maybe it's the timing. I mean, the nighttime when the club is usually open isn't the time of day that other people would choose to get together. Maybe if you had something going on the weekend days or week evenings, that could attract a different crowd. It all depends on what you're going for, I suppose."

He'd heard the term and understood the conept - in theory at least, as he couldn't imagine not being attracted to the gorgeous blokes around him. But then, he couldn't imagine being attracted to girls. Perhaps it was sort of like that, but for everyone? "That's okay, I guess the important thing is that you have a word for it now, right?" The pun was pretty hilarious and Ernie had a good chuckle at it. "Though you can't be fucking beautiful because then you'd be giving a fuck," he said with a sly grin. "Maybe I can even help. Whenever a bloke tries to hit on you, you just send them my way and I'll console them."

"Eh, I don't want to step on Seamus' toes. Maybe it's something to think of for the future. I've only been open a couple of months," he said with a shrug. "Thursdays were always floating around, I just needed a theme that'd work and not piss me off too much."

Charlie thought he'd spotted the flicker of disconnect he saw in people when he mentioned that he had no desire for sex. People generally didn't get it, and a lot of people could get pretty belligerent about it, but Ernie seemed to be pretty relaxed thankfully. "The lack of word never bothered me all that much, just so long as people accept no for an answer," he said and then laughed appreciatively at Ernie's extension of his joke. He half waved off his suggestion about sending men his way though. "I'm sure they could do worse. Just so long as they don't spend half an hour getting me to change my mind I'll be happy," he said, rolling his eyes. It had happened before, with both men and women and it was always uncomfortable and often became tedious.

Ernie chuckled. "That's all right too. If you ever need another theme, I've plenty of ideas like masque night, dress as your favourite Muggle, and there's a Muggle club I went to that had something they called Goth Night that was quite fun."

Ernie had known at least one girl in his life who couldn't take gay for an answer, and could definitely empathize with Charlie. He made a mental note to step in if he ever heard of anyone thinking of challenging the man's sexuality - nobody messed with the people Ernie liked. "Hey, I'm not completely selfless - you can send them my way for my sake, I can always use the dates," he replied with a sly grin. "But I'm glad you came, Charlie. Even though we're not the same, we're all sort of family now, a community. If you ever need a healer, you can come find me."

"A masque might be fun sometime, and I think I went to something goth themed when I was in Romania, lots of black clothes and pale skin, right?" he asked. It was a poor sort of approximation of vampires in his opinion, but what did the Muggles know.

He smiled, comforted by Ernie's acceptance. "I'll see what I can do," he said, amused. "And I think I'm glad I came too, even more so because this food is excellent," he said, grabbing another mini-taco and popping it in his mouth.

"Thanks for the healing offer too, although I'm hoping I don't need it," he said.

Justin had tried the jalapenos peppers and had liked them, even if it was way too hot for him. It was sad really because Justin liked most peppers as long as they were sweet but had decided to try those, see if he could stand the heat.

He most certainly wasn't, so after having taking care of the burning sensation in his mouth, he took a taco and eyed it carefully.
