I saw my first robin red-breast this morning on my way to work. Just a dash of colour as he darted into the hedge but it was enough to remind me that autumn is well and truly here and soon it will be Christmas. This has always been my favourite time of year, well one of them. I could never really settle on a firm favourite but top four. Certainly.

We've got a bit of a challenge going on at work this week - we all bring in lunch and swap it. It's made for some really interesting combinations and some I'm definitely going to try out but todays sandwich looks a little squishy. It might be leaking but I'm wary of unwrapping it again. I do hope that it's not a sign of things to come, after tackling my paperwork I plan on enjoying lunch and listening to the match on the radio.

Fingers crossed there's no leakage at the pitch either.

	I'd be afraid to try sandwich swapping at International Exports given what I've seen some of the younger office crew consume at lunch time. If your leaky sandwich turns out to be too dodgy, give me a call and I'll send you over a batch of my ham and cheese pasta. Got carried away in the kitchen last night and made too big a batch. There is a large helping along with some garlic bread baked fresh last night now wending your way via office messenger.

Too much take away and restaurant food lately. That big barn of mine seemed pretty empty last night so I lit it up, put on some music, and attacked the kitchen. I did manfully resist the urge to bake any pies though, so I'm afraid you'll have to find your own dessert course.

How you could subscribe to such a challenge, I'll never know. What if someone left you something worse than a leaky sandwich? I shudder at the very thought. As for the fall, it is quite lovely, I must admit. I wasn't as much of a fan of it when I was younger, but watching Lucy play in the leaves is an experience, for certain.

The Falcons play Appleby tonight, do they not?

And yet, I'm getting rid of my unknown sandwich for home made garlic bread and pasta. It was an experience Percy, and its been a good week. Myra for instance, makes a mean sandwich that I'm going to try and make my own.
Mind and watch out for hedgehogs amongst the leaves, they're delicate creatures and can be a little grumpy if riled.

I'm glad your week went well. Have you any plans for the weekend? Lucy is going home to her mother tonight - she says hello, by the by.

Appleby has been doing well this season, perhaps the Falcons have bitten off more than they could chew. Were you thinking of making things interesting?

There's nothing concrete planned; one of my colleagues mentioned sending me a Germanic text to whittle away a few hours with a glass of wine but there's something decadent about having the ability to be flexible with time. Work is a series of appointments, the weekend has a fluidity that I appreciate. What about you?

What do you say to a little bet between friends, Perce? Falmouth win, I make dinner for us with garlic bread and if Appleby triumph..you can cook?

It's going to be quiet without Lucy there, she fills up a space. You might even get lonely. Did I ever mention that we got our first pet when I was around 5?

What sort of text? I haven't read much from Germany, but if you enjoy it, please let me know - I always appreciate your recommendations. And as for decadence, enjoy it while you can - it tends to disappear the moment children arrive.

Only if you might allow me to amend it, Pen - if Appleby triumphs, I'll treat you to take-out from your location of choice. My cooking ability leaves much to be desired and I have no wish to poison you (though I reserve the right to change this opinion at some point in the future).

She is not getting a pet. Someone was giving away kittens some time ago and it was quite the fight to tell her no. I have Hermes for company, so I'm well enough... All right, it is lonely when she's away, but just imagine all the work I'll get finished.

The Merseburg Incantations. Given how rare it is to come across primary texts, I'll settle for a decent reproduction, especially one in old saxon. You're welcome to have a look at it when I've finished, somehow I suspect you don't do much reading for pleasure these days.

My choice? Careful, you might regret that. I know where to get ahold of the latest gastronomy craze curry sandwiches after all. But I'll be kind. Promise. It sounds like a brilliant idea actually, lovely food, excellent company. I've even had a vow not to get poisoned thrown into the mix - you're too good to me.

Muggle scientists have proven that those who own a pet live longer, have quicker mental reflects and its a waggy tailed reminder to get out into the fresh air every so often. I adore Hermes but can you hug an owl?

Are you trying to tell me that Medieval Broomsticks: A chronological analysis and The Case for Flying Vacuums are not fun reading? That does sound interesting though, I hope a translation spell will suffice, though I know it doesn't always have the same flavour as the original.

Curry... sandwiches? The former I quite enjoy, but combined with the latter is a disaster waiting to happen, I fear. And have I not always treated you well?

You can, but only after casting a binding charm, and the feathers end up in the most unappealing places. I would not recommend it. Fear not, I am in no shortage of hugs between Lucy and Mum.

What happened to you Percy? You used to be very cool, the late night study sessions, the colour-coded scheduling and reference debates. Those were the heady days of our youth! Now we're... actually, what is the case for a flying vacuum? What do you do with all the attachments?

I couldn't possibly comment as I've not tried them. However, I know people who encase curry in pie so there's the same logic there but I prefer my sandwiches a little more traditional. And you've always been a perfect gent, even when refusing my attempts to poison you through my co-workers lunch.

...I can't believe you've tried to hug that owl. Can I watch? Does he glare balefully at you when you try it? I bet he does. A sulky owl - not something I would risk. You're a lucky man Percy, that sounds like a much more appealing sandwich than anything you'll find in the world.

Ah, but you see, my coolness has simply evolved into another form so that I can continue to maintain this air of mystery. Youth is wasted on the young! And after reading the text, I had quite a few recommendations on what the author could do with the various attachments - I don't think they would appreciate my criticism, however.

If you ever try them, please do not let me know if the combination is actually successful - I would much prefer to live in ignorance. And my lady, tis but the result of years as a politician - a man needs to know when to be diplomatic.

Ah, but I was so terribly lonely and in need of affection, for I'm such a needy man as you know quite well. Desperate times call for desperate measures! But in all honest, Lucy actually did attempt it once and without the spell - I had to cast it after the fact because Hermes needed to be extricated from her grip before he could injure her with his talons (that was the first and last time she attempted it).

I am quite lucky. I've Lucy and Mum and Dad, my remaining siblings are in my life yet again, and I've you and Oliver to keep me humble ~~though it's still lonely sometimes~~. If you're feeling lucky, perhaps I could ask Mum and Lucy if they would give you a hug as well.
