Who: Aidan & Theo
What: Moving in to Aidan's place
Where: Aidan's house
When: Saturday early evening
Rating: TBD, low? Mentions of bad Theo things probably

Theo was very grateful that Aidan had offered to put him up, especially considering he was still unemployed and had little to no money left to his name. He could have sold off more House Elves or some of the old furniture still in storage somewhere from the Nott House, but he wasn't about to uproot the poor Elves from their new homes and he didn't want anyone else to be haunted by the furniture from that place that still stank of blood and rot and screams.

The new place wouldn't have that problem. If there were any screams embedded in those walls he wouldn't be able to hear them and none of his own were in there. Not to say that they wouldn't grow there; the sounds tended to follow him around, regardless of how well he warded his bed.

Theo had packed his few belongings into the trunk that he still had from Hogwarts: some changes of clothes, books of various ages and languages, a whole chemist's worth of potions, various this that and the others. It was all stored safely and then shrunk so that he could fit the whole thing in the palm of his hand, and from there into his pocket and he was all packed. Sad really, maybe it should have taken him longer to gather all his worldly possessions. Then again, it didn't matter what he had as long as the things he had weren't saturated in misery.

He was a bit concerned on Aidan's behalf about the trust he was placing in Theo, letting him into his house without meeting him elsewhere first, but he supposed that maybe that was being a little too paranoid; it was a pretty progressive thought for Theodore.

He flooed into Aidan's house with the neat grace of someone who had grown up used to this method of travel, looking about politely for his gracious host.

Aidan was pacing in what he considered the den, but the realtor had called the "family room", where the fireplace was, waiting for Theo to arrive . Did he feel absolutely one hundred percent comfortable with inviting a stranger into his home? Not entirely; what if it was some crazy fan? While he didn't feel completely comfortable, he also felt like this was the thing to do. There was something about this that felt like he had to do this. Crazy.

When the flames burst up from the Floo, he stopped his pacing and waited, watching a very small gentleman appear. This was it. Aidan wasn't sure if he should smile, for once. Did this man even know who he was? That would be nice.

"Hello," Aidan said with a small grin, "Welcome!"

Theo tensed despite himself, but he knew his wand was tucked into his sleeve if he needed it and knew that it wasn't likely he would need it either. His new landlord was almost a foot taller than him, but it was difficult to find anyone who wasn't taller than Theo - it wasn't that which had him on edge, just Theodore's usual tension-ridden inclination towards the defensive and hypervigilant.

He gave Aidan a smile back though, not totally gone off the paranoid deep end. "Thank you, really, thank you very much. I really appreciate this." he said sincerely, wholly grateful. "I'm Theodore Nott." he added, thinking he should introduce himself in person and holding his hand out towards Aidan; he didn't usually like physical contact with anyone, but Aidan had opened his home to him, helping him while he was down and Theo didn't think he could pay him back enough. The little flinch at voicing his surname was barely noticeable as well.

Aidan's first thought was that this man was very short. Height doesn't determine character. Although lots of great seekers were on the small side. Aidan shook his hand carefully, a bit afraid of hurting the man. "Nice to meet you, I'm Aidan Lynch."

After greetings, Aidan gestured towards one end of the house. "Your room is down that way, but I'm not trying to rush you off or anything."

Theo appreciated the loose handshake - he'd never put any stock in somehow being able to tell anything about a person by their handshake, but he was happy that he had the chance there to flee if he had to. Well, happy for the chance but annoyed at himself for needing that reassurance.

"Thank you." He said gratefully, taking a hesitant step in the direction he was indicated. "And not at all, but I don't want to interrupt your day if you have to do anything or be anywhere or anything." he said uncertainly.

Aidan shook his head. "For the most part, I hang out here. I'm..." he dreaded to say it, lest it meant it was permanent, "temporarily out of the Quidditch profession," he wouldn't say retired. "It's given me the opportunity to spend time catching up on a million things. However, I'm ready to go back to playing, perhaps next season." Aidan would go back to playing tomorrow if he could, and he probably could if he let it slip to the right people.

"Come in, sit down, let's talk," he said and moved to what was formally the 'reception' area, but Aidan didn't know what to call it. It had floor to ceiling windows. He loved everything about it. He chose a chair by the window, allowing him to put his feet on the sill, you could call it; it was a three inch platform running infront of the window.

Theo didn't keep up with Quidditch and he didn't know the players, so it was a surprise to him to learn that he was living with one. He wasn't sure if it was a sore subject for Aidan or not, although it didn't sound like it. "I don't tend to watch Quidditch." he advised. "I'm sorry, I don't think I've ever seen you play, but I'm happy you've got the chance to choose to go back."

He followed Aidan into a room that gave him pause for a moment, a brief bolt of terror that bolted his feet to the floor. For a moment he thought he was back at the Nott Estate with those same, tall windows. The ones in the living room where the giant, empty, scarred portrait hung above the forbidding fireplace, the chairs positioned in such a way that no one could walk up unseen even though the only danger to Theodore in that place had only ever been from the man who had instilled such paranoid practises in him. He didn't hear screaming from these walls though, and he doubted he'd find the end joint of his own finger under any of the chairs here.

He took a seat beside Aidan, fighting the urge to bring his legs up and curl up on the chair and not putting his fet on the sill either. This place seemed a lot more airy and light than the Nott House had done - those windows were tall and narrow like balistraria, like forbidding figures that cast light shadows across the grounds the times Theo escaped to the moors and looked back at his house which squatted like a carrion crow on a perch.

"You're house is lovely." he said sincerely.

It might have shown on Aidan's face that he wasn't used to people telling him they didn't recognize him. That never happened. But, it would give him the opportunity to be himself and not someone. He could live with that. "I loved what I did."

Aidan made himself fully comfortable with a cat in his lap while the other investigated Theo. "Thank you," he said in reference to the house comment, "I love it here. I love the water. I love the view." View could be understated. Two walls were complete window forming a 'V'. "I hate being closed in. I love being up here because it's like flying for me. I see so much and it's just... wonderful." Aidan sighed wistfully.

Theo wondered about Aidan's wording, whether or not it was deliberate; it sounded like there was a story there, but Theo didn't want to start poking into potential old wounds regardless of his burning curiosity.

He noticed that one of Aidan's cats was checking him out and he watched it with a strange mixture of want and worry, most of him wanting to reach down and greet the cat with a pet, maybe talk to it a little bit, but a louder part of him reminding him of what happened with the rats and who the hell he thought he was trying to interfere in the life of another creature when it had ended so poorly for them last time. The self-recrimination kept his hands firmly to himself, but his gaze was fixed back on the feline one quietly assessing him.

He looked out over the very impressive view and he could see Aidan's yearning to fly in all of it. "Do you fly often?" he queried cautiously, unsure if it would stir up something unpleasant for his host.

Aidan got a dreamy look on his face, "I fly a lot. It's probably why I never married. I love it too much." Aidan would never say no to getting married ever, but Quidditch probably had a hand in why. That, and actually knowing if a woman's motives were pure - interest in him as a person and not some famous player.

Aidan turned his attention to the cat on the floor, who had started meowing at Theo, wanting attention. "I'd just go head and pet her. She won't stop now."

Theo didn't think he loved anything as much as Aidan seemed to love flying... maybe thestrals? But there was a definite longing for flight in Aidan's tone and look and the very fabric of his house and Theo had never loved something as much as that. Maybe now that he didn't have to live under the fear of having anything he cared about taken from him at his father's whim he could learn to do so? He should probably start with not squashing any hope of such a change out of his heart before it could really take root. "It must have been hard to take a break from it." he commented. It didn't occur to him to state his preference, even if it might cause issues down the line; he had his own issues with his sexuality.

He watched the cat worriedly as it called to him, thinking illogically that he'd done something to offend it - maybe it wanted to sit where he was sitting or something - until Aidan reassured him that this wasn't the case.

He reached down a little tentatively to do as Aidan had said, rewarded with the way the cat reared up to meet his approaching hand, pushing it's head into Theo's palm the way cats did when they demanded attention. Theo stroked his hand down her soft back and the smile that came to him when the cat answered with a mrowling purr was one rarely seen on the haunted boy's face. "What's her name?" he asked curiously.

Aidan shrugged a little, "A little difficult. It was the result of a really nasty injury. I was glad for the reprieve after that," he hadn't been afraid of Quidditch, just very wary. "But I've more than recovered now. I'm ready to get back to it."

Aidan looked at the cat demanding attention and then one in his lap, a vibrating purring mess. "That's Bertie." he said of the one Theo was petting (calico). "This is Drooble (gray). Yes, just like the sweets. My niece and nephew named them. I couldn't argue that they were bad names, just different. The cats adapted well to them."

"Oh, I'm sorry." Theo said, feeling like a dick for bringing it up. "You're all healed okay now though?" He semi-asked, assuming this was the case if Aidan was going back. "You must be exicted." he couldn't imagine what it would be like to be separated from something that Aidan clearly loved so much for any length of time.

Theo pet the cat's - Bertie's - soft ears and scritched around her head, letting her rub her face against his hand when she wanted. "I like them." he said honestly, that smile still there. "I'll try not to disturb them or anything. They seem like they don't mind me being around though." he commented as the cat twined back and forth against his hand and then paused to assess him like it was thinking about jumping up. "How old are your niece and nephew?" he asked, his tone a little unsure though - he was never certain if he should be around children. He had the strange dark sad fear that he would do to them what his dad had done to him, although the reality was the opposite. He had nothing good to base his interaction with children on and he was as out of his depth around them as he would have been in the Muggle world.

Aidan nodded at his initial question, "For the most part I'm healed. I still get horrible migraines on occasion though, that may never go away. But I work around them."

Aidan was staring off out the window. "They are 5 and 7. They also have twin sisters who were born earlier this year. Usually when I go off overnight, it's because they request my presence."

Theo could relate to injuries that lingered, even though his were mostly psychic. And ignored. He looked sympathetic at hearing that though. "I'm really sorry. It must be difficult to keep a normal schedule with frequent migraines." He was impressed that Aidan could cope with them and still hold down a career; it certainly made him feel ashamed of himself.

"Oh? Not for anything bad I hope?" Theo asked warily, already thinking of worst-case scenarios in his head of small children crying out for their uncle to come help them against some tyrannical figure that Theo's imagination baulke at fleshing out.
