Birthday Bash
Who: Seamus and open for multiple threads
What: Seamus's birthday
Where: The Roost
When: Saturday 27th / Sunday 28th June [foredated]
Rating: SFW for now?

Seamus had debated over the theme of his birthday for hours. He'd known that he wanted ice cream, but none of his own decor ideas had been inspiring. Dominic had suggested a camping theme, which Seamus had been enthusiastic about for all of ten seconds before realising how much Dean would hate it. Eventually, he'd settled on a sort of park feel. Where better to eat ice cream, after all?

One wall held the table, magically chilled, with all the flavours of ice cream, the cones and the cups, the sprinkles and sauces. Dominic had fashioned wooden screens that looked like muggle ice cream vans to attach to it, and all four walls were grass-green and sky-blue. The rest of the room was slightly too-crowded with park amusements. A see-saw, a set of swings, a family-size swing, even a sandbox in a nod to Dean's last birthday. The ground didn't quite feel like real grass but it was close enough, and the air smelled like summer.

Come midnight, the larger accessories would disappear, leaving the room empty for people to spread blankets and sleeping bags and cushions over. Seamus was expecting at least his closest friends to stay the night.

Susan smiled winsomely at her friend, touched for a moment about her wonderfully he embodied the good Gryffindor traits - nobility, chivalry, and bravery chief amongst them. "That's what makes you a good person," she replied at last with a smile. The fact that you've purposely decided to not work them out. The lack of underhandedness is so refreshing." She tilted her head in consideration for a moment. "Of course it means that you'd make a horrific investigative auror, but I think we both know that you're definitely more suited to the role of an artiste."

"Merlin's breath, they sound amazing. I should get some for mum actually, she has a fridge in the kitchen out of a weird sense of nostalgia. I love that you got Seamus the phallic ones though, it uh, definitely gets to the point of the situation you have. Really takes it in its hands and hefts it. Absolutely takes the long view." She grinned at Dean, her eyes twinkling wickedly. "So were there any other novelties, and what else did you end up getting him? I'm trying to gauge whether my presents were acceptable."

The jerky little nods of Dean's head were meant to indicate that he did his best. "Well, you know, if it was me submitting to someone else I'd not want them to try and work it out, I figure I should give other people the same courtesy." He snorted, there was no way he could argue with that particular point. "I know it was my aim originally, but I would have been pretty awful at it, whether the war happened or not," he mused.

"They're great, and you really should, it's pretty fun. I played around with them in the shop before I bought one." Admittedly in the shop he had used the words from the regular set to make random sentences that mostly made no sense at all. Susan's particular description however made him snicker like the teenager he'd been randomly feeling like of late and he grinned back, picking through his words carefully. They'd never been his best way of communicating, at least not when he was trying to be clever, random spewing of words he was all over. "I mean, I had such a hard time choosing what to get him. There were plenty of things that might rise to the occasion. I found him something to keep his hands busy, since I know he likes to fiddle and play with whatever he can get them on," he snorted to himself and shook his head. "No, right, yeah. I got him a these pens that are also drumsticks so he can annoy the hell out of basically everyone, and I ended up getting the photo frame from Camden anyhow," he said with shrug. "Plus, breakfast in bed. No, not like that," he said to forestall any comments on that front.

Susan nodded thoughtfully and tilted her head in agreement. "Whenever I engage in some form of cunning sophistry or chicanery, I always think about the fact that the sorting hat mentioned during my sorting that there was almost some Slytherin aspects to me, but I was definitely a Hufflepuff." She chuckled at his statement and nodded, her eyes tinged with a touch of sadness. "Yes, well best to let sleeping dragons lie."

"I definitely will. Merlin knows there are times when my father turns Rosethorn a little too bleak, so a nice injection of whimsy could be just the ticket. Plus, I'm interested to see how long it takes Edgar and I to start battling over words to make the weirdest sentences." The smirk fell off her face and she guffawed as Dean returned her volley off puns and swept through with some choice ones of his own. "Oh Dean, you're a treasure," she sighed happily. "Oh fuck, really," she sighed. "I'm guessing I'm forbidden from breaking them or shoving them up his arse, aren't I? The drumpens that is, the picture sounds lovely." She chose to ignore the comment about breakfast in bed, because really, it was far too easy. "I got him a flag signed by the entire Kestrals team, and some concert tickets, and I may be dragging him out to buy him a new damn broom."

The smirk that spread across Dean's face was a thing which both lacked a huge amount of surprise and was full of pleasure. "Now, somehow that doesn't surprise me all that much. Some of us were nearly Hufflepuffs too, as you well know. But I think the fighting Death Eaters unarmed proved I was meant to be in Gryffindor," he admitted. That moment was something he was very proud of, even if he didn't talk about it often. Of course blood purists were usually screwed when you just decided to deck them, so it had worked in his favour in the end.

"I'd guess probably about three minutes knowing you two," he said. He had a feeling he and Seamus were going to be getting creative with the set in the flat. In fact Susan would more than likely join in knowing her. He grinned back at her when she laughed at his jokes. He tried to turn that into a stern frown but knew he'd managed comic more than anything. "No, you can't, no matter how tempting. I sort of didn't think that one through properly," he said. "He'll probably end up braining himself with one when he tries to throw them up and catch them though, if that helps at all?" he offered. Actually he wasn't totally sure it hadn't happened already, miraculous catch the previous morning aside.

Dean gave a low whistle. "Well know who is going to be popular," he said. "Although that means if we go flying the git is going to beat me in races. Ah well," he gave a philosophical shrug. The fact that losing a race meant he could fly in watching Seamus' arse wasn't the worst compensation in the world.
