Lunch
Who: Bryony and Astoria
What: Lunch, conversation
Where: Rosa Lee Teabag, Diagon Alley
When: Thursday may 28th, afternoon [backdated]
Rating: Probably SFW

After her 'date' (did it count if he didn't show up?) on Tuesday, Bryony had tried to hide out in Braith's studio to avoid the awful interrogation from her mother. It hadn't worked. She'd had an owl on Wednesday afternoon which calmly stated that she would, of course, be having dinner at Pineview Hall and she hadn't known how to get out of it. The meal had been as bad as she'd expected, and if it weren't for her lunch with Astoria she wasn't sure she'd have bothered to leave the house on Thursday. As it was, she put on her nice, not too formal robes, sighed at herself in the mirror - Astoria always looked so perfect - and then made her way to Rosa Lee Teabag for tea and sandwiches and, hopefully, cake. After all, if men weren't going to show up to meet her after they'd agreed to do so, what was even the point in trying to look nice or lose weight?

As usual, Bryony was right on time. She had a quick look through the windows of the teashop and, unable to see Astoria inside, decided to wait for her by the door. The weather was nice - blue sky but not too hot and Bryony wasn't ready to go in just yet. She knew Astoria wouldn't forget to come, but perhaps there was still a nagging worry that if she sat down at a table alone to wait she might find herself facing the same humiliation as on Tuesday.

Bryony managed a small smile. It was true, her mother's taste in me was absolutely nothing like Bryony's own fleeting inclinations. She was focusing on family name, blood status, wealth, political history - and was quite inclined to suggest men much older than was really socially acceptable. Whether she assumed Bryony would prefer that - she had been engaged to Marcus for most of her life - or whether she just didn't care was hard to work out. "Maybe he didn't want to be there either," Bryony suggested. "Maybe his family set it up and he just decided not to come." It actually made her feel a little better, made the rejection of it sting a little less. Maybe it really hadn't been personal and had just been an act of rebellion.

"I don't want to break hearts," Bryony pointed out quietly, frowning as she pushed her menu aside. "I don't really want to do anything." If that wasn't quite true, well, Bryony wouldn't admit it even to her closest friends. Not even Marcus knew how much she wanted to meet someone she liked and how utterly impossible it seemed to her that anyone could ever like her back.

She had to force the frown off her face as Astoria continued. The last thing Bryony wanted was another opportunity to be rejected and overlooked, but Astoria seemed to be getting into the idea. "That would be nice," Bryony lied. "Of course I'd help you. And it might get our mothers to stop pushing for a while."
