Monday
Who: Greg and Ron
What: The usual antagonism in an unusual venue
Where: WWW
When: Monday 16th March
Rating: NSW?

Greg hated Mondays and already he hated this particular Monday more than most. A forgotten alarm meant by the time he was woken up by Mrs McHavelock rattling the shutters on the shop below, he was already late. He cursed to himself as he magically cleaned himself and his hideous Weasley robes, then apparated to the safe point just outside the shop, pushing the door open and expecting to find George serving customers in his place. Instead, he pulled himself up short face-to-face with his least favourite Weasley of them all (though it was a close contest). "What are you doing here?" He looked around, then peered at Ron as if he expected him to transform back into George. It wouldn't have come as that much of a surprise, after all the pranks George had inflicted on Greg since he'd taken this job. "Where's George?" he asked, suspicious. "You're not supposed to be here." Was this all some elaborate joke? Were other Weasleys going to spring forth form the shelves? Had they heard about Greg's talking about them? He groped in his pocket for his wand, ready for anything.

Ron wasn't in his new robes yet because he'd point-blank refused to wear one of the spare pairs that were set aside in Goyle's size. This meant he had an uncomfortable trip to see Madam Malkin in his lunch break, but at least he could avoid the dreaded magenta for his first day as part of the business.

Having told him to call if he lost a finger, George had left Ron to get to grips with the quirks of the till and that was where he was when Goyle finally arrived.

"Yeah, I am meant to be here. And George is out back working on something."

Greg scowled. The Weasleys and Potter were always coming in to 'shop' and either not buying anything or being given it free by George. Not that the latter really caused problems, Greg just hated having them around. Potter, in particular, watched him like he was expecting Greg to blow up the shop at any moment. The idea was temping, but going back to the Ministry to talk to aurors was not.

"What do you need?" At least if George was out back he didn't know Greg was late and thus Greg couldn't get into trouble. Maybe Ron would buy whatever he needed and go - wasn't he an Auror? He must have work to get to.

Ron stared uncomprehendingly for a moment before the knut dropped. "Bloody hell, George," he grumbled, turning around and expecting his brother to be standing there smirking. But no, George wasn't there. Ron scowled, though Greg wasn't on the receiving end of it, for a change.

"He didn't tell you, did he?"

"I'm Goyle," Greg said, irritated. Couldn't Weasley keep his own siblings straight? "And I can't help you if you don't tell me what you want." Ron was always the last thing Greg needed - joint last, with Potter and the mudblood - but today especially.

Greg was about to turn away and go replenish the dungbombs (always the first job after a weekend, he'd learned) when Ron spoke again. "Who didn't tell me what?" he growled. Honestly, people thought he was stupid but Ron was being incomprehensible. "Did George hit you with a Confundus Charm on your way in?" He was honestly quite proud of that retort - even if he was paraphrasing something that had been said to him only a few weeks ago.

He shot Goyle his best Hermione-inspired withering look. "Of course I bloody know who you are."

Ron was left with two possible conclusions. Either George had gone full-on mad inventor with his new product ideas and become absent-minded to boot, or he hadn't told Goyle because he thought it would be funny to see how they both dealt with the situation; Ron didn't know which way he was leaning.

"He didn't tell you that I'm his new partner." Technically true, though in a minor way. Ron had invested in the business after taking advice from both Bill and George, proving that having talented brothers wasn't always a bad thing. "I work here now."

It took Greg a little time to work through Weasley's words and finally establish that 'he' in this case was 'George'. Ron's second statement was a little easier - though definitely not one Greg relished hearing.

"Why?" Greg asked, because he didn't understand what had happened to make Ron go from being an Auror to working in a shop. If Greg had a job like that, where he got to fight for a living, he wouldn't give it up to go work with stupid customers and stupider products. On the other hand, it was was Weasley and Greg quickly gave up on that line of questioning. "I don't care," he declared. "Do I still have a job?" It seemed only logical that if George had taken on new staff he probably didn't need Greg any more. As much as Greg hated the job, he didn't want to have to look for another one. It had been hard enough the first time, plus his mum would be annoyed.

Ron wouldn't have wanted to answer anyway, but even so he bit back a sigh.

"Of course you still have a job," he said, rolling his eyes. "George wants to focus on product development for a while, that's all." Hopefully he would have a few new things ready by June or July, at which point he'd probably be needed back in the shop once Hogwarts had broken up for the summer. "So I'm working with you instead."

Joy.

Though he was relieved to hear it, Greg didn't show it on his face. Working for two Weasleys was even worse than working for one - not to mention, Greg liked Ron even less than he liked George. Every time he brought up his job at home, his mum reminded him what a great thing it was, being 'accepted' by the Weasleys. Greg didn't understand it - he still considered it to be an insult to be associated with them, and that might never change.

"Fine," he grunted, moving away from Ron towards the shelves where the dungbombs were kept - noticeably depleted from a weekend of sales. "Then I'll get on with it." He didn't want Weasley telling him what to do, though knowing Ron it would happen sooner rather than later. At least there'd be someone else in the shop to deal with customers.

"Yeah." Ron prodded one of the keys on the till and the drawer shot open; he stepped back just quickly enough to avoid getting hit in the stomach. "You do that."

Merlin, George owed him a pint for having to deal with this conversation. Maybe two.
