Harry who?
Who: Harry and Lucy
What: Lost in the Ministry
Where: The Ministry of Magic
When: Tuesday 10th March, afternoon
Rating: SFW

Lucy had arrived at the Ministry early, prepared with all the paperwork the Fawley Foundation had suggested she bring. She'd followed the directions to the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, found it easily and waited in the corridor outside until she was called in. It was then that things started to go wrong. Since the magic had been months ago now, and the witnesses already obligated, it was no longer any concern of theirs. The young wizard who looked like he was probably an intern, barely out of school, led her quickly through the winding corridors to the Improper Use of Magic Office. Lucy's meeting there was brief and unsatisfying, the paperwork jerked out of her hands before she was sent away and told they would review her case.

Lucy's sense of direction was usually good, but when she found herself standing at the bottom of a stairway looking out into a room with many shapes and sizes of table and chairs, plus the occassional house-elf popping in and out between to clear plates or deposit food she quickly realised she had no idea where she was. She didn't even know what floor she was on, whether she should go up from here or down. There were windows reflecting a blue sky, but Lucy knew even from her limited experience of the wizarding world that those could be magical and the room could actually be underground.

She was just making her mind up to ask one of the house-elves when someone walked into her from behind, forcing her to take the last awkward step badly, though she managed not to twist her ankle even in the high heels she'd worn for the interview. "Watch where you're going, would you?" she said, a little impatient.

Harry couldn't help but glance down at her shoes, and winced in sympathy. "Yeah, they hurt like Hell after a few hours, don't they?" He didn't realize until after he said it that admitting he knew what it felt like to wear women's high heels might not be the best way to make a good impression on someone he was already on rocky ground with.

At her question, he grinned slightly. "Yeah, still in the Ministry. The cafeteria to be exact. Where were you trying to get to? I could walk you there. The least I could do." He tucked the folders under his arm, and widened his smile. "Or if you're hungry, lunch is on me. The Elves do up a good lunch. Not quite to Hogwarts' standards, but better than I could do on my own bringing sandwiches from home."

The comment about her shoes made Lucy laugh openly - banishing the last of the tension between them, and doing a pretty good job of mitigating her irritation. She gave Harry an appraising look up and down and though robes could cover a multitude of sins it was definitely a guy she was talking to and not a tomboy-ish woman. He was cute, too, with the glasses and the messy hair. "Damn," she said, grinning. "I don't know you nearly well enough to demand an explanation for how you know that. Which reminds me -" She held out her hand - "I'm Lucy."

Pining for her preferred jeans and t-shirt, Lucy awkwardly rolled up the loose sleeves of her blouse. "Well, that's a start." She took another glance at the tables, eyeing the food that was set down. She'd skipped lunch - too stressed to prepare anything. "I wouldn't say no to lunch," she admitted, holding up a hand. "But I'm just letting you know - for next time you bump into some poor girl on the stairs - you really could just have apologised and pointed me in the right direction."
