Funeral Breakfast
Who: Dominic and Luna
What: Food before the funeral
Where: Luna's house
When: Thursday 5th March, morning
Rating: SFW but potential for sadness.

Outside of the war, Dominic didn't have a lot of experience with death. His paternal grandparents were still alive and though his maternal grandfather had died, Dominic had been at Hogwarts and unable to attend the funeral. He had no idea what it would be like to lose a parent, or how much help he was going to be - so he was focusing on the basics. Food and tea and company. He apparated to Luna's place just after nine, bringing with him a thermos of hot tea, rashers of bacon, potato farls and bread rolls. Luna might not feel like eating, but hopefully some combination of the ingredients would be appetising enough that she'd have at least a few mouthfuls. Dominic had even specially bought an extra packet of vegetarian bacon - just in case.

He was dressed in normal clothes, a soft blue t-shirt and jeans, and carried his only decent suit with him, enchanted so that it wouldn't crease. That way if he was pressed for time he could change at Luna's and travel to the funeral with her. After running a hand through his hair, he knocked at Luna's front door, looking around her garden and the view with undisguised interest. He knew the Weasleys and some other magical families were from this part of the world, but he'd never had any reason to visit before now.

While he was busy making the sandwiches, she went and cleared off a part of the table for them to sit at. There was a lot of stuff cluttered around. That probably wasn't a surprise to anyone. Now that her dad was gone, maybe she could keep things more organized. Doubtful but maybe. She smiled and took her sandwich and cup of tea over to the table with a small laugh. "Okay, thanks. Here. Sit." She gestured for him to do so next to her.

Luna stared at the food for a moment before she picked it up and took a bite. She wasn't very hungry, but she knew that she had to eat. Her head bobbed slightly. "All right. Yes of course, you can change here. I have to change too." As odd as her clothes were, she wasn't wearing a form of pajamas to her father's funeral.

Once he'd sat down, they are in relative quiet - partly because Dominic still didn't really know what to say and partly just because eating took precedence over making conversation. He occasionally glanced at Luna, who didn't look like she was particularly enjoying her food, but was at least eating - which he supposed was all he could hope for right now.

When the last crumbs were gone, Dominic stood to deal with the plates. He washed them up magically and then set them down on the counter with the frying pan he'd used. He wasn't sure where Luna had produced them from, so he'd leave her to deal with them. He kept his wand in hand, moving as close as he could get to the centre of the room and then pausing. There was no visible effect of the diagnostic spell he used, but he could feel it spread out from him. Depending on how sensitive Luna was to magic and how closely she was tied to the house she might be able to feel a faint echo of it. "Everything seems sound in here," he said. "Want to give me the tour of the rest of the house?"

Before they left, he pulled a notebook from his back pocket - just in case they came across anything he couldn't fix immediately and needed to note for later. "I hope muggle clothes are okay," he said, circling back to the topic of the funeral. "I've only got my school robes and they don't exactly fit anymore..." He smiled - he'd put on a bit of muscle since then. Not enough that he looked massive, but enough that his old sleeves stretched uncomfortably.

There wasn't much for her to say either, she just took little bites of her sandwich and tried to swallow it down. At least it tasted good, that wasn't really the problem. But she knew that she couldn't stop eating forever. Eventually she was going to be starving. So she kept eating as much as she could. In the end she gave half of her sandwich since he said he'd eat the rest.

Once that was done, she thanked him for cleaning up and waited for him to look around the living room and make sure everything was okay. If she felt anything with the magic, she kept it to herself. She could feel something though, but she wasn't sure if it was the magic or because it was her house. "Sure," she said with a small smile.

Luna lead Dominic around the house, starting with the floor they were on. The kitchen and the dining room they had already been in, but there was a room where they normally served guests by the stairs for him to check on. "Of course. Mine don't fit either. I don't think I want to wear some robes either. It's too.. sad." Her father would have wanted her to wear something bright and colorful, but she wasn't sure if she could do that either. "You can wear whatever you'd like." She started upstairs where all of the bedrooms were.

Dominic repeated the same procedure in the other rooms, making a few notes. Overall, the house was in pretty good condition, but like in any building that had been standing for over a decade, there were things that needed maintenance - and other things that were fine as they were, but wouldn't suffer from improvements. Dominic split them into two separate lists, keeping the one of necessary repairs for himself and leaving the other in what he took to be Luna's room. "If you do decide to sell, let me know and I'll come take care of those too. It won't make a huge difference, but you'll want to get the best price you can." He tucked the list into the pages of a book, where it would be easily found but where Luna wouldn't have to worry about it until it she was ready to do so.

"I'll leave you to get changed," he offered politely. They didn't have time now for him to take care of any repairs - he'd have to come back in the next few days. "I'll be downstairs if you need me."
