Journal: Warded to Pandora
Dora --

I had a baby blanket made for my cousin Sera's little girl, and though I know you're in the middle of the holiday crush, I was wondering if you might have a few minutes one night soon to weave a few charms into it. Nothing out there; a soothing charm, a cooling/warming charm, maybe an Impervious if you've got the time. And I'm open to suggestions too, if you have any. I'll bring you that bottle of blackberry mead, too. It's only been sitting in my kitchen for a month now...

I always have time for any project you want me to undertake. Feel free to drop off the blanket or owl it over. I can add a mild cheering charm, too, if you want. Those tend to work well with the soothing charms.

Mmm, blackberry mead. I'll bring it to Paris so we can drink it together.

Dora --

I need it by the third of January, so if you can't get to it for a few days, don't worry. And a cheering charm would be great, or a shield against bad dreams, if that'd work better with the mix. I'll bring it over Saturday afternoon before I go to lunch with Jane, if that suits? And a box of those Swiss bonbons you like, as my end of the bargain.

I am so looking forward to Paris! I can't remember the last time I was there in the winter, much less around the hols.

Oh, that will work fine. I'll put it in the queue and make sure I have a good selection of charms to put in it. I think I have one for dreams as well. I have a whole list I put together a couple years ago for babies and children's things. I'll publish it or something someday.

Ah, you spoil me. Yum!

Me too! I haven't been there in quite a while, especially in the winter. It'll be a treat, which is just what I need.

You should. I think a pre-set list would make a lot of people happy, so they don't have to sit down and think of all the charms they want put into something. Especially since there's that habit to forget one or two until the baby needs something, and you don't have it put into the whatever.

I'll be there around 1! Tell your owl I hex things that dive-bomb me. ;)

That's a good idea. I'll do something like that and make it a thing for the shop. Piecemeal it together based on what someone wants. I tend to do those on commission, outside the shop, but I might as well make it a formal thing. Some fabrics take some charms better than others too -- and old quilts do different than newer things, believe it or not. Personality, is what I put it down to.

Caduceus can't help himself sometimes. He harrasses Tristan and Julian's elves, too. I think it's a game of tag, but I've never been able to prove it.

I wonder what kind of personality hand-dyed yarn would have. Maybe it takes on the personality of the person doing the work? Though that brings up another question: will any of these charms have a counter-effect on the no-fade charm that's embedded in the yarn?

It's a good thing I had better-than-normal reflexes the last time I Floo'ed, because that beastie of yours came at me like I was the best-looking mouse in London. I promised him I'd pluck him the Muggle way if he did it again. (He probably didn't believe me. He's got quite the brain, your bird.)

Hand dyed yarn tends to have a little more personality, but I've not found anything so far that really affects the no-fade charms. Sometimes if I'm contracting something out, I have spells laid during the spinning and carding or weaving. They're more... imbued, permanent, at that point. Just like a lot of my chests are spelled in part during work and in part after.

Threats don't work on him. He's immune. Proper pureblood owl, him. He might have been a dog in a past life.

Makes me think of how Flitwick used to talk about how a charm "felt." Whatever you think would be appropriate to do, go for it.

I'll be over in a flash!
