RP: Tristan and Vikesh
Who: Tristan Travers and Vikesh Moon
What: Tristan goes to say hi to Vikesh after his yoga/meditation class
Where: The Roost, Finnigan's
When: Wednesday, 26 November, 2004.
Rating: SFW so far

Vikesh had mentioned that he was giving meditation and yoga lessons at Finnigan's, and Tristan was curious to investigate, both because they sounded intriguing and because he wanted to see an old friend. He found out the times and dates of the lessons, even if it'd taken him about a week to actually show up for one. But Tristan didn't go in. He saw how a few witches and wizards were dressed, and he realised his dark green wizarding robes were likely not suitable attire. And his nerves also got the better of him, so he decided to wait downstairs in what was apparently called The Corner, perusing the bookcase before picking up a few interesting sounding books. Then he sat down with a view of the common room to keep an eye out for when the people he'd seen earlier came down from the -- the Roost, was it? -- from the Roost. At least this way, he wouldn't be interrupting anything, and he also wouldn't be holding up the class by trying to talk with an old friend.

Tristan watched a group of wizards and witches file through the common room, and he noticed they all wore similar garments. They were the ones he'd seen earlier. Although he sat up, he waited until it seemed like all of them were gone before casually making his way up to the next floor. He carefully peered into the room, then pulled back as he saw someone lingering. He assumed the lingering woman was trying to flirt with Vikesh given what he saw of her posture and facial expression. He couldn't blame her for trying, and he grinned to himself, quickly pulling up a book to pretend to be reading it when she walked out of the room.

And then it was just Tristan and his nerves with nothing to buffer them or excuse why he couldn't enter. He tucked his newly acquired books into his robes, closed his eyes, and inhaled. He counted to five, then exhaled and opened his eyes. You can do this, he said, smoothing out the front of his robes. He put on a friendly but small smile and walked into the room, making his way toward Vikesh.

"Hi," he said when he was a few feet away, stopping to give a polite (and safe) distance between himself and Vee. In the back of his mind, he thought about how, annoyingly, Vee was still handsome. Insecurity coursed through him as he thought about his own looks, about how the past few years hadn't been as kind to him. However, he didn't let that insecurity show, even if he couldn't help thinking about how skinny he was and how much he'd fucked up any chances he had to have a decent future, a decent life.

Today's session had been dedicated to meditation for the second half of the hour, which had done Vikesh a load of good. He felt more centered and able to deal with the little annoyances in the world, such as yet another student trying to chat him up afterward. Even if he hadn't already been a rather awkward conversationalist, he wouldn't have wanted to continue it very far once he'd ascertained that the woman had little actual interest in what he taught beyond the superficial. Thankfully, she was perceptive enough to get the point and left quickly enough, allowing him to relax and breathe again.

He reached out to grab a bottle of water and took a long pull before reaching down for his shirt, and had just been finding the opening in the material when he was distracted by the voice. He looked up, shirt still in hand, and froze when he saw who was standing there.

Tristan looked changed, that was for certain, but who wouldn't after what he'd been through? Vee offered a friendly smile, something he didn't do often enough.

"Hey," he replied tentatively. It was strange figuring out how to act with someone he hadn't seen in eight or nine years, even if they'd been roommates almost as long. "You're a little late, we just finished some meditation. I was just going to grab a late lunch."

"It was a little deliberate," Tristan confessed, slipping his hands into the pockets of his robe to keep from fidgeting uselessly. "I didn't want to hold up your class by coming to say hi before it, and, as you can see, I'm not at all dressed for it." He glanced down, moving his hands in his pockets to pull at the sides of his robe to indicate his outfit, then nodded a bit toward Vikesh's current attire, or partial lack thereof.

"But don't let me hold up your lunch!" he said with a smile, secretly hating how awkward he felt around Vee, around most people. "I was mostly just out running errands, and I thought I ought to come say hi if I got the days right," he explained, which wasn't entirely untrue. He had been out, and there were a few things he'd been doing, but they weren't all errands. Mostly, it'd been a rescheduled visit with his probation worker to work out a better time thanks to being hired at Wingbeat, something he still thought of as an oversight or lapse in judgement, though he had no plans to push the matters with his new boss.

"Uhm, so, hi," he said, with a little smile and a little wave, tucking his hand back in his pocket.

"I'm glad you stopped by," he said, "but you're not leaving yet, are you? I was just going to eat downstairs and you're welcome to join me. You don't have to get anything if you've eaten already, but... it would be nice to catch up."

He began feeling a touch self-conscious standing in front of Tristan while half-naked - not that his old friend hadn't seen him in far less than that, or nothing at all rather - so he pulled on the long-sleeved shirt he'd been holding. He could grab the rest of his things later, he just wanted to catch Tristan before he changed his mind. It really was nice to see him again, despite where his friend had been the last few years.

He didn't know if he were leaving yet or not. He actually hadn't thought this whole thing through, which, he supposed, meant he wasn't leaving just yet. He gave a little shrug and said, "Well, I don't have anything pressing at the moment, so I suppose I'm not leaving yet."

Really, was that so hard? He sighed internally, wondering if this awkward feeling with people he knew when he was younger would ever go away. He hoped so. If not, he didn't know what he'd do with himself. Hole up in Pandora's flat or his parents' house for the rest of his life? No. That wouldn't do. He still didn't know if he was wanted back home. That meant he'd have to hope it'd end. And the only way to do that was to engage properly with people. Well, people who wanted to engage with him. Like Vikesh. He didn't seem against it, so he'd just have to go with it and hope for the best. But he wasn't stupid. He was also prepared for the worst.

Tristan took a step to the side and took his right hand out of his pocket. "After you," he said, motioning to the door. He inclined his head in a slight bow and smiled. His stomach gave a slight flutter of excitement at catching up with an old friend, and he let himself bounce once on the balls of his feet.
