Owl to Ernie

Owl to Ernie

Hey

I wondered if you'd like to go to Dean Thomas' art showing on art gala on Friday with me with me?

It's in Muggle Camden at 8pm.

I don't know if you'd like to?

How are you?

Dean is a good person. I apologise though, I wasn't aware you were so well acquainted; if you prefer to go alone or otherwise I won't mind. We could eat beforehand if you'd still like to go together.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend - is he doing any better? You've a kind heart Ernie. I worry Frustrating how?

I have been coping, I think. I've offered to pick up more hours at one of my places of employment and I'm hoping I can prove useful there and I think I'm more help than hindrance at What the Book, which is more than I was hoping for.

You've helped.

Theodore, I'd still love to go with you. It does mean we might meet up with a few of my friends there, so I hope that's all right.

My friend will be better when he takes his head out of his arse, but yes, he'll be fine. As for work, I had an amazing idea that I'd researched and I ran it by my department head, but it was turned down before I even had a chance to explain it. It's just politics, I'm too new for anyone to listen to me about these things. As I said, frustrating.

I think it's a great place for you. You've a love of books and reading, and a nice manner. I'd certainly buy from you! In fact, I should go by and visit some day and make a purchase... that is if it won't bother you too much.

I'm glad. You're easy to want to help.

Well, I'm happy to go with you too. I'd like to meet your friends.

I see. I'm glad that he'll be okay, and either way he's got you looking out for him.

I'm sorry that they didn't give you the courtesy of hearing you out before making a decision. Dismissing your research and your idea out of hand due to the length of your service smacks of cutting off their nose to spite their face. Is their any scope for you to be able to bring it up again? Maybe with the sponsorship - for lack of a better word - of a more senior member of staff? You've been working there a while though have you not? How long do you have to have been employed before they take you seriously? Irritating. I'm sorry Ernie. You're good at your job and it sounds like your mind is being wasted there. Or taken for granted maybe. Your worth more anyway.

Thank you. I trust your insight. I'd like to see you at work. It wouldn't bother me.

I hope I'm not putting too much pressure on you. I'm sorry, I know I'm I come with a lot of I've put you through a lot since we've started spending more time together. I know your profession. I know you're the guy that people go to and I know you like helping people, I know that's the kind of person you are. I know where you work, you know that I spent some time in, there. I don't want you to have to be 'on' when we talk or whatever. I'm sorry that I put you in that position sometimes.

I think I'm trying to say that I don't want to be more of your work for you, and I'm sorry that I have been.

I think you'll like them, and I know they'll like you. Especially now that I've told them, and they'd better be nice or else

It's all right, for now anyway. It's frustrating and, yeah, I do feel a little like I'm taken for granted. I think it's also in part because they're stuck in their ways and not wanting to hear about new ides, especially ones that come from Indonesia. With a few of the healers here, there's a bit of an attitude that we're the epitome of magical medicine, so what would we have to learn from 'backward' cultures?

I'll admit that sometimes I go 'on' because it's instinct, it's trained into me so it's hard not to - and it's not just with you, but with my other friends too. Maybe it's also a good sign that I'm in the right field. But the thing with friendship is sometimes people need us to be there for them, and sometimes we need them there for us. Those times aren't always at the same time though.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's okay if you could use a little more support now because maybe there will be a time when I'll need some too, and you'll be feeling better and can be there for me, if you want to. That's what caring for someone is all about, isn't it?

I won't hold it against them if they don't.

That's slightly concerning. A lot of the spells I use and used to use came from other cultures. My dad I We had a very large library with a lot of texts from different countries and there were things in there that were never taught at Hogwarts. That and the weight of the success of Chinese medicine alone would make you think that they'd be open to considering magical medical ideas from other cultures. Maybe you should publish a paper?

I can understand that. I suppose I'm worried you'll burn out. I can I'm not well, I guess, right now, but I still have it in me to be there for you now, if you need it, regardless. We This isn't a one way street, you know?

You- Yeah. Yeah it is.

I might. Okay, I won't, but I won't be happy if they don't. I don't think you'll have to worry about that.

I think it's just a sign that there's still a lot of prejudice around. It's getting better, that's why I said a few of the healers, not all of them. It just so happens at times that those few happen to be the ones in charge.

You worry about me? I don't think I'll burn out anytime soon. I actually try to be good at taking care of myself with plenty of time to relax or go dancing or spending time with friends. They key, I find, is balance - the better my life is balanced between work and outside activities, the better I can handle the less than good times. But I promise, if I'm not doing well myself, I'll come to you. You're right, this is a two-way street.

I wouldn't expect the company you keep to do so, but c'est le malaise du moment

I'm sorry that the narrow mindedness of the few is killing the expansive ideas of everyone else. I think you should pursue it independently, theoretically, maybe discuss it with a private medical facility if our Ministry are too xenophobic to hear out a good idea when presented with one.

Taking care of yourself should be important when you take care of others at work and slip into that same role when out of it too. I'm sorry though, I didn't mean to overstep. You're very generous with your time and yourself, your energy, it's difficult not to be concerned that your Healer's gaze isn't being turned inwards. Thank you - that you'd do that means a lot to me.

I'm not sure what that means, but I hope it's good.

That's a great idea! I'll think about it for now, it's still rather fresh so it's probably best I sit on it before doing anything - best not to make major decisions when I'm feeling emotional about it all.

Don't apologize, I don't see it as overstepping. It's nice to have someone check up on me, actually, and care enough to make sure I'm doing all right.

It means that I think I should be able to trust your friends

That's true. But don't let it cool away entirely. Don't let it die the way they want it to

Of course. Ernie, of course.
I hope that you would tell me, and that you'll let me know if you need anything, anything that you'd want to give me, but I'll still check on you. I want you to be alright.

Even if you don't, I'll be there - you can trust me if noone else.

You're right. I'll do what I can to keep it alive, if only because it has the potential to help so many.

The only thing I need is your friendship, and to see you every now and then. And if some of those 'now and thens' happen to be a date, then that would just be a nice bonus.

I think I can. Thank you

It really does, at the very least it could maybe be published?

You have my friendship. And And some of those now and then's can definitely be dates.

I hadn't thought of being published, that's a great idea! I've always wanted to see my name in print, though I'd always hoped it would be in the Prophet for something related to Harry.

Then I'm happy and quite content. And as for the show, should we go back to the Dip and Swish for a bite beforehand? Meet at around 6 maybe?

Not in the Prophet for something related to yourself?

Oh That sounds like a plan to me. I'll see you at 6:00

Well, I'm just a regular old healer right now, and the Prophet has been obsessed about Harry for years. Not that I wouldn't love to be published for my own merits.

It's a date.
