Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: allegra rosier, character: percy weasley

Who: Percy Weasley & Allegra Rosier (NPC Lucy)
What: Custody handover and telling Allegra about the new job (and hoping he survives the encounter)
Where: Allegra's home
When:Sunday October 19, morning - 10am sharp
Status: Closed / Ongoing

Percy was hunched down in the small salon where the floo resided and was taking a few moments to make certain Lucy was ready to go. She had her favourite shoulder bag, her stuffed hyppogriff, was dressed in a lovely set of lavendar robes with embroidered golden butterflies, and was currently looking at him as if he were the child going away and she the adult.

"I didn't forget anything, Daddy. If I need you, I can floo or send an owl." She leaned forward to kiss his cheek, then grabbed his hand and tried to pull him onto his feet. "Now come on, I want to see Mamma and the kitty!"

He bit his bottom lip, a heaviness settling in his chest as it did whenever he had to bring her to Allegra's. It wasn't that the woman was a bad mother, she was despite her ridiculous prejudices, it was just that it meant going another week before seeing Lucy again. He stood up and smiled for his daughter, then grabbed a handful of floo powder with his free hand. Together, they stepped into the floo and called out their destination, and continued holding each other's hand until they came out the other side.

"Mamma!" Lucy called out happily, practically leaping out of the fireplace.

Percy followed her a little more slowly, taking a moment to peek into the room where Lucy had gone to snuggle with Cerberus. It was far from his first visit to the house and so he knew his way to certain important rooms, such as the loo, the kitchen, and Lucy's room. When he got there, he took a seat and waited for Allegra to quit beating around the bush.

He knew a day like this would come, always figured that at some point down the line one or both of them would marry and bring new children into the picture. Perhaps a part of him had hoped he would be the first, but he didn't begrudge her that. He only hoped that whoever the man was, he would be good and kind to Lucy - because if he wasn't then he would have the wrath of Percy's family to deal with. "Congratulations," he said, the honesty in the word almost surprising him. "I hadn't known you were seeing anyone and Lucy hasn't mentioned anyone to me. May I ask who he is, what he does, and if you've set a date for the wedding?"

Stiffening slightly at the mention of another man, Allegra winced before straightening up. "Um, that sort of brings us to the crux of the matter," she said. "I would like Lucy to have a brother or sister, and I would like my children to have the same father."

She paused, to let the request sink in, then rolled right ahead. "But you needn't worry. I don't want... a repeat of the night that gave us Lucy. Far from it. I was simply wondering if you would do me the favor of... donating."

Cautiously she met his gaze, hoping he wouldn't just turn her down flat.

"The same father? But who in bloody hell would go along with-" And that's when it hit him that she wasn't the one who'd thought of another man, that had simply been his assumption. And assumption that was apparently very far off from realite, at least at this time.

He reached up to rub the back of his neck, a sure sign of feeling uncomfortable with the situation. "You're saying you want another child, and that you want me to be a father again. And without the... preceding events." He knew he was simply repeating what she had said, but he wanted to be certain he understood, particularly after his initial misunderstanding.

"Why me? Why not simply wait until you meet someone and marry?"

"The same father," Allegra repeated awkwardly.

"Because I don't want the gap between my children to be any greater than it already is. Because you're already Lucy's father, and even if you are a bit of a prat you're a good dad, and I can't fault your parenting, much as I might complain about your family. And... I'm not going to meet someone else and marry, okay?"

She was turning red as she spoke the final words. She wasn't really ready to admit to herself that she wasn't interested in men, so to have to insinuate it to him was galling and she really hoped he would take the hint and not push the issue. That said, this was a bit enough ask that it was inevitable he would have at least a few questions.

He did her the courtesy of listening to each of her points, and being of a logical mind, could see where she was coming from. She sounded quite positive about not meeting someone and marrying, which was her choice of course, but also settled the matter of a future spouse to contend with. Once the logic was processed, that only left the emotion.

Another child? He adored Lucy more than he'd ever thought himself capable of loving another person, but could he do it again? How did Bill and Fleur do it? Was he ready to have another child now? These and more questions started circling in his mind until he was beginning to feel dizzy with the weight of it all.

Even though he'd barely been sitting for a minute, he sprung up and paced to the door, only to immediately turn back straight for the chair. "Please tell me this isn't the sort of thing you expect me to decide right now. Do you have any idea what you're asking me?"

"Do you really have that low an opinion of me? That I would get you here, spring this on you, and expect you to agree and get on with it right this minute?" she asked, her tone exasperated. "Of course you'll have to think about it, if you're not saying no outright, that is."

She hated appearing vulnerable, but as she regarded him, she knew the vulnerability was all over her face. "I know it's a big ask, Prat, but... I did mean it. You're a good father. I want another child, and I want my second child to have the same sort of good daddy that Lucy does."

It was a low blow and she knew it, but she wasn't entirely sorry.

The low blow did indeed hit home. Allegra wasn't one to show her vulnerable side often, and the fact that it was perfectly evident to Percy spoke volumes. He stopped himself from making another pace toward the door, instead leaning back against the counter where he could imprison his hands between it and his back. It kept him from being tempted to do something stupid with his wand.

"I suppose it also helps that we've managed to maintain a civil accord for Lucy's sake for over five years, something that may not happen should you find another... volunteer." Not to mention what sort of other person might volunteer for such a thing and what that might mean for Lucy. He had visions of some large, unshaven former Death Eater coming into Allegra's home and- He shook his head before the thought could germinate further.

"I won't say no outright. Do you need my answer by a particular day, or do I have some luxury of thought in this?"

Allegra's heart caught in her throat. He wasn't saying no, at least, not a flat no. Before she realized what she was doing, she'd taken a few steps forward, embracing him lightly. She pulled away quickly though, her face red. "Thank you," she said, "for even considering it. I just... I was an only child, and I'm a bit of a shit. Part of that is my parents and my upbringing, but I'm convinced another part of it is never really learning to play well with others until I got to Hogwarts, and by that time my temperament was more or less cemented."

Backing away, she made sure to give Percy plenty of space. "Ideally I'd like to know soon," she said. "Perhaps... when you come to get her?"

The "her" in question came bouncing into the room before she had a chance to say anything else, and Allegra scooped her up, hugging her tightly and raining kisses all over her giggling face.

"Can Daddy come to the museum with us?" Lucy asked in Italian. Allegra chose to respond in English, for Percy's benefit - Lucy was still learning that not everyone spoke the same words, all the time.

"I think Daddy has things he needs to do this afternoon. Another time perhaps, Daddy?"

Percy was taken aback by the embrace and only managed to awkwardly pat Allegra's back before he was released. "Perhaps I should remind you that twins run in my family, in case it might affect the question," he said as she gave him his space, and he could finally breathe a little more easily.

He was about to respond about the timeline when Lucy came in to join them. He was thankful that Allegra was teaching her not to speak Italian in front of those like him that didn't know the language. "Another time, indeed," he said before leaning forward to press a kiss against Lucy's cheek.

"Allegra, we'll speak next Sunday about that matter we were discussing. And Pumpkin, be good for Mamma, all right?" Lucy nodded enthusiastically.

It was always hard to leave her, no matter how often they had done this. "All right, have a good Sunday you two." He waved as he headed for the doorway, intent on getting home to do some thinking - and then to cease thinking long before his 'date' with Lisa.

Twins? Allegra hadn't even considered the possibility, and she didn't let herself consider it now, pushing it firmly out of mind. After all, he hadn't said yes yet, though it sounded like he might. She didn't dare get her hopes up, though.

She adjusted Lucy in her arms, sitting her comfortably on one hip. She tended to get a bit like this in the little while right after Lucy was "hers" again - snuggly and slightly clingy, a side effect of not having held her for the week. Thankfully, Lucy hadn't yet grown out of wanting snuggles from Mamma.

"How about we go and see Grandpa Rosier, and Nonna?" she suggested to the little girl. It wasn't as if her parents were the most demonstrative of grandparents, but Allegra was having a little pang of guilt after hearing that Molly had been so gung ho to step in to help Percy with Lucy while he worked. A part of her wondered if her parents were just not that interested in being the Molly and Arthur sort of grandparents... or if it was just that Molly and Arthur were getting to spend more time with her.

"Will Nonna bake scones with me?" Lucy asked. "Grandma bakes scones with me and we put cheese and bacon in them, and then we tell Grandpa Arthur that he can't have any until they're cool but he always sneaks them and then he has to do the hot potato dance, and it's funny."

Allegra stifled a smirk at the idea of her own father "sneaking" scones or doing a "hot potato dance" for the benefit of her daughter, but the picture stuck in her mind. "We can certainly ask Nonna if she fancies doing some baking," she said firmly, intending to have a word with her mother out of Lucy's earshot, encouraging her strongly to forge a better bond with Lucy before Molly Sodding Weasley stole all the Grandma prizes.
