RP: Breaking Bread
Who: Emma and Dennis

What: A cheeky bit of lunch

Where: The Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade

When: Wednesday, 15th of October

Rating: NSFW - Language

The worst part about having a fit of nostalgia and travelling from London to Hogsmeade, Dennis decided as he blew his fingers and walked up the blustery high street of Hogsmeade, was that you never wore enough clothes. Still he was having lunch with Emma and that was enough to lift his spirits measurably. With a sigh, he passed through the doors of the Three Broomsticks and chose a table near the fire. With a grunt of satisfaction, he pulled out his slightly battered book of Naomi Klein essays and began to read - pausing to accept two menus and a jug of butterbeer.

As such it was almost by accident that he looked up and smiled. "Alright darlin'," he asked happily. "I'm glad you're here, I'm starving!" He put his book down and leant forward with a cheeky grin. "So, what's new?"

Emma collapsed into a chair opposite Dennis with a heavy sigh, already tugging off her scarf. "Merlin's saggy ballsac," she complained, "I'd forgotten that it turns to winter here in about August." She was not wearing the right shoes for October in northern Scotland.

Then, she smiled because, frankly, it was hard not to smile around Dennis when he was in a good mood. "Ooh, not much. Work, work, work. Um, got my nails done this morning." She offered a hand for him to see the red glittery goodness on her fingertips. "Nothing as exciting as your globetrotting!"

Dennis laughed quietly as Emma sat down across from him. "I did too, love. At least you remembered to wear a scarf. I was stuck with my coat and the worst possible shoes," he said with a rueful shake of his head. "I really should put an extension charm on my coat pocket and stuff it with useful things, shouldn't I?"

He waggled his eyebrows at her suggestively and looked at the menu for a moment. "Fun work work work, or boring work work work," he asked leaning forward to look at the nails, which managed deftly to be both chic and ever so slightly sexy - something that always managed to amuse Dennis greatly. "That's true, there's nothing like being pushed off a cliff by a boar in Indonesia. It's not what you'd call boring, that's for sure." He looked up as the barman/waiter/kitchen wench/possible male escort trotted up to them, and after another momentary pause ordered the shepherds pie.

"I would get someone good at tailoring charms to do that for you. You don't want the seam to break, otherwise you'd end up with all that stuff in the lining of your coat." She wrinkled her nose. "Not a good look."

"Hmm. Bit of both," Emma remarked, picking up a menu to give it a once-over; it never seemed to change. She snickered. "That's terrible," she complained. "Are you sure you're a professional writer?" She flashed him a grin, only teasing. Once Dennis had ordered his food, Emma asked for the chicken pie and told the barman not to skimp on the gravy.

"Let me guess. Rose had to save you from the big ol' boar?"

Dennis gave her a mock affronted look. "I do okay with my charms! I got an O in my NEWTs and everything," he said, sticking out his tongue good-naturedly. In all honesty he'd been reading up on the spells, and he'd managed to do them before, but her warning made him decide to try it in one of his old coats that didn't fit anymore.

He laughed quietly and nodded. "I'm afraid so. The fact that I have a steady job and that people seem to like my writing is a sad reflection on the state of modern Wizarding society innit," he joked as she ordered her food.

"You know you'd think that, but actually not so much," he said with a grin. "We both got knocked off a cliff and into a lake, then had to apparate back up to the top. Took the whole team to take out the bugger."

Emma poured herself a glass of Butterbeer. "We're doomed," she said in as serious a tone as she could muster. "Completely doomed."

She sipped the warming, frothy drink. Butterbeer would always reminder her of this pub and Hogsmeade weekends. "That... actually sounds kind of scary. I think I'd rather be topping up my tan on the beach instead of battle a fucking wild boar. But I'm so proud of you for getting a new job out of this. That's amazing."

Dennis nodded absently as he poured a drink for himself as well. "Completely doomed yes. Maybe if you build yourself one of those bunkers they used to build in the 1960s you could survive to repopulate the species."

He lifted his mug up to hers. "Cheers," he said with a cheeky grin. "It was more annoying than scary really. The bloody wanker was basically able to steal all this stuff and didn't like the idea of having his fun time end," he said disgustedly. "But we got him in the end which is the main thing really." He leant back into his sit and smiled lazily at her. "It is pretty amazing, and I'm still fairly certain they had magic mushrooms or something like that before deciding on it, but I'm really excited!" His eyes lit up and he stared into the distance for a moment, thinking of all the amazing places he would go and see, and all the people he would talk to, and all the causes he would take up, and he smiled. "I'm really looking forward to it actually. But, the question is what've you been up to? Any fun stories to share?"

"Cheers, m'dear."

Emma smiled widely as Dennis drifted off into his own imagination. This really was exciting for him and she could only hope that it would lead to even more great things for him. Maybe even great things that didn't have stupid punny headlines that he hated.

Pouting her lips, Emma went over her recent activities, trying to work out which were the most fun and which of those wouldn't be totally out of place at the Three Broomsticks; no one ever wanted to get on Rosmerta's bad side. "Ooh. I went shopping for an outfit to wear on my date with Gwenog Jones. Which I'm looking forward, even if she isn't a hot guy. And my sister apparently has a boyfriend. I met him and he doesn't seem like he has his nose in a book all the time, which I wasn't expecting."

Dennis pouted and then laughed quietly. "O c'mon, you know I was waiting with baited breath for you to tell me about some high ranking official who's career I could ruin," he joked with a smirk. "Yes! The date with Gwenog Jones," he replied enthusiastically. "I wonder how that will go... Do you think she'll expect you to put out?" He took a sip of drink, and then nearly chocked on it at her shocking revelation. "What the-" he gasped, spluttering and coughing for a moment. "A boyfriend without his nose in a book? What the hell is she thinking?"

He looked up as their food arrived and grinned at her. "Speaking of dates, I have mine with Terry soon and I'm totally freaking out. He's so hot."

Emma waggled her finger at Dennis. "Nope. No kinky secrets for you, Mr Journalist," she teased. "But as for Ms Jones... no, I don't think so. But I think it's going to be a lot of fun anyway."

Sighing, Emma gave a shrug. "Fuck knows. He seems so normal. I don't know what he sees in her." She loved Louise and her big sister was pretty, of course, but she actually seemed to prefer the company of books to people. Emma couldn't wrap her head around that concept.

Once again, Emma pouted. "I know. I'm so jealous, Dennis, you have no idea. The things I would do to that man."

Dennis pouted at her and sighed hugely. "You never tell me any of your juicy, juicy secrets Ems! How am I meant to make a name for myself as a journalist if I don't destroy someone's career. Skeeter always tells us before she's forcibly removed from the premises that that's the way to get ahead in the game." He laughed easily and shook his head and laughed. "Well I hope you have fun at least?"

He tilted his head and squinted at her for a moment. "Maybe Louise has finally actually found someone who compliments her without having to be exactly like her," he suggested with a frown. "I mean opposites attract and all that has to be right occasionally, if only to allow it to be a cliché."

"I know right," he replied with an ever so slight amount of smugness in his voice. "I want to climb him like a tree. He nearly makes me want to support his team, and you know how much of a big deal that is."

"You don't need juicy secrets, not when you have that thing. You know..." Emma pretended to search for the right word. "Integrity."

Dennis was one lucky bastard. "I don't know how you're going to keep your hands off him. I mean, I know you will because you're not the gross molest-y type, but still." Emma sighed longingly. "I would so settle down and be a fabulous Quidditch wife for someone with a body like that."

Dennis looked at her blankly for several moments. "Integrity," he joked, speaking slowly and blinking owlishly as if in complete confusion. "What's that word mean, Ems? Is it a new thing? Like a magical STI or something?

He sighed wistfully and nodded. "I wouldn't mind settling down and being a fabulous Quidditch wife either to be honest. But you know, I would actually be happy to just be friends with him. You can be friends with people you want to deep throat, right?"

Shaking his head a bit, he began eating his lunch properly and grinned at his friend. "So I've been thinking actually, I have an assignment to go island hopping in the Caribbean after my birthday - interview some people, talk to the locals about what pisses them off, all that type of fun stuff and I was thinking of dragging a few friends along." He took a bite and smiled at her nonchalantly. "You interested?"

"I think it means something like you don't fuck people over. But, really, it's as foreign to me as eating frogs legs or something." She grinned. "Not sure I've ever had it."

Emma nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, sure. You can so be friends with someone, even if you want to play bedroom Quidditch. Apparently, some people can be friends and shag, but I've yet to come across that particular combination."

She dug into the crust of her pie. "Interested in getting some more use out of this year's bikini? Absolutely. If I can get the time off work."

Dennis snorted at her. "See this is why I like you, Emma Dobbs. You're amazingly evil in the non-evil sort of way." He paused to ponder whether that was what he had meant to say. "I mean that in a completely complimentary way of course. You're like good evil not bad evil."

He chocked on his drink, and spent several moments spluttering. "Did- did you just say 'bedroom quidditch' because how would... Well I suppose there are-" he stopped and burst out laughing. "You are amazing Ems, AMAZING. But yes I am all about sudden explosive feelings being all up on someone so I definitely couldn't do casual sex beyond one night stands. Which I have had two of, because I am rubbish."

"Yes! I still have to ask Rose and Rolf and it's still very much up in the air but I'm glad you'd like to come!" He paused and smiled at her wickedly for a long moment. "Who knows, you might meet a hot Caribbean lad to play bedroom quidditch with."

"I call it Hufflepuff evil," Emma said. "It sucks you in with its sweetness."

She beamed, quite happy for Dennis to go on telling her that she was amazing. Other people might have shrugged off the compliment, but not her. "You are not rubbish for having one-night stands. Anyone who tells you that you are is the rubbish one."

Emma sighed longingly, spearing a couple of peas with her fork. "See, while those two are being all couple-y. We can drink fabulous rum cocktails and scout for hot guys. So we all win!"

"Ah," he said with a thoughtful nod. "Hufflepuff's a good to know. Piss off a Slytherin and they'll kill you, piss off a Hufflepuff and they'll never find the body eh?"

He sighed and pushed his plate away from him. "I know, I know. I feel rubbish though. Even if the night with Ben was pretty damn good." He shifted uncomfortably for a moment and blushed, before deciding to be brave and say it anyway: "It uh, definitely helped me with some pent-up Paden issues I think?"

"Exactly! While they're being all doting and loving, we can go and find a couple of likely lads to severely limit our abilities to walk the next day," he crowed, grinning impishly at her. This is why he liked Emma, she was fun. "But, speaking of Rose and Rolf, did I tell you I walked in on them going at it?"

"Paden is a little shit and anything that helps you with those issues is good." Emma wasn't sure she wanted to open the box of Paden issues. Things might get really heavy and that wasn't what she wanted to feel like for the rest of the day.

Emma laughed. "Perfect plan." Between the two of them, they could probably figure out any man's orientation, which would come in handy. "No! That's amazing. I love it. I want details, but at the same time I don't because I think Rolf is one of the only people I can never picture having sex."

Dennis laughed and nodded. "He is, he is, but enough about that twat," he said, smirking at her. "Particularly Ben, was um, well I shagged him up against a wall so that was good?"

"Yes," he crowed happily. "We can even work out who goes for who between us. I'll walk around in a pair of short trunks, you walk around in your bikini, instant sex bombs!" He threw his head back and laughed. "Okay so they obviously wanted to jump one another, and Rose has really strong silencing spells on her room, and they obviously thought they'd shut the door. So I look, see the door's open and walk in to give Rose her mail, to find her in his lap riding him. I screamed and fell over, Ems. You're welcome for the mental image."

Emma laughed. "I love this idea! By the end of the stay, we'll be practically tripping over cock. You especially."

Impressed, Emma raised her eyebrows. "Good for Rose," she said. "Though I wish I could've seen your face. That must have been a picture."

Dennis pushed his plate away from himself and smiled. "Tripping over cock is a brilliant thing," he said with a smirk, before frowning. "As long as it's metaphorical cock-tripping and not literally tripping over people's cocks."

"I know right, he seemed quite well endowed so I guess really well done to Rolph. But also Rose." He sighed and nodded. "I probably looked ridiculous. They didn't even finish their screw which was hilarious." He looked at his wristwatch and sighed. "We probably need to leave, do you reckon?"

"Yes, metaphorical cocks." Emma gave an unladylike snort, then giggled. "Actual tripping would mean that there was some magic that had gone seriously wrong."

Emma sighed. "Yeah, probably. Back to real life." She pushed her empty plate a few inches away, wrinkling her nose. "Back out into the cold. But this has been fun and we should definitely do it again soon. Or dancing at Wingbeat. Or both."
