It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark
Hello lovelies, Kaylie here! After what feels like weeks and weeks of talking about him, I finally bring you Gregory Goyle, the least talkative character I've ever played.

His backstory is largely canon but here's some things you may want to know:

- Until after the Battle of Hogwarts he had an undiagnosed hearing impairment that made it hard to understand people and meant he had trouble pronouncing words correctly. It's all fixed now, so he's not as stupid as some characters may remember (he's still a pretty slow-thinker, though).
- After a year off adjusting to full hearing / mourning Vincent Crabbe he went back to school and managed to achieve a whole two NEWTs. Since then he's been volunteering/performing community service clearing various DE properties of dark magic.
- His mum still basically rules his life and what decisions she doesn't make are probably influenced by Pansy or Draco. She kicked him out of her house so she could court Ernie's uncle and told him to find a job and a flat in Monument Alley (one out of two ain't bad).
- He lives above McHavelock's Wizarding Headgear. He works (or is about to start work) for George at WWW.
- He's Marcus's cousin (his mother was a Flint before she married) and they're the same height.

Sooo, hit me with backstory / forwardstory / sideways stories. I'll update the cast list tomorrow with Greg and our other two new characters.

Awww you took my hearing impairment thought for my girl! :( Lol.

Rolf might give him a chance, depending on how badly the guy bullied him in school. That's up to you. If he wants or needs a pet, though, Rolf will try to help.

I'm open to anything :)

Oh um, did he have the Mark?

Aww, I'm sorry! I just kept it from when I last played Goyle. No reason we can't have two characters with hearing impairments, especially since Greg's was quite mild and is all cleared up now.

Greg bullied mostly who Draco told him to bully. There is a hold on Draco at the moment so maybe before too long someone will come along to shed light on that. I figure though that as Rolf had magical ancestors he'd probably have been mostly ignored unless he was particularly annoying.

No, he didn't. He would have taken it if he was asked to but it never really came up.

No worries! Once I submit (if I can fracking get the time this week, oy), we'll see how it works out! And it's a brilliant idea for Goyle, btw.

Cool. If Draco did, though, wow... that'll be an awful awkward wedding, given that Rolf is good friends with Astoria! LOL

Gotchya, I wanted to double-check!

Thanks, though I can't take full credit for it.

Haha. Well, it's going to be awkward already. Greg always believed Pansy and Draco would get married. Of course, if Draco's chosen Astoria then he has to like her but... he doesn't like change, or being caught between his two best (living) friends.

Yay Goyle!

I've got a bad headache, so I can't think just now, but if you want to plot anything with Zacharias, we're up for it! And random interactions are also okay!

Woo, Zacharias! Uhm. Probably just got seen as one of those annoying little Hufflepuffs that were running around the castle. Greg enjoyed intimidating them to get out of Draco's way but probably didn't have any actual grudge against Zacharias or anything.

Yay for Greg! Marcus is happy to have his cousin around, and we'll have to get the together at some point in the near future :)

We definitely will. Greg is totally coming over to Marcus's for food fairly often since his mother all but kicked him out.

Marcus is more than happy to feed Greg whenever - I imagine he probably has a key to the flat so he can go in and raid for leftovers whenever he'd like?

Excellent. I have this idea that his landlady doesn't really like him much, so Greg isn't terribly comfortable in his own flat. If he's got a key he may pop in to hang with Marcus (or even in Marcus's absence).

Absolutely! He's more than welcome to hang around even if Marcus isn't there, like when he has away games and such.

Blaise says hello. Friends, or at least friends as defined by Slytherins.

Hermione doesn't really care one way or the other about him.

Marietta will be friendly enough as long if he is.

So yeah there's my quick replies. Sorry so short.

Definitely Slytherin-friends. Slightly less close than Greg and Draco or Pansy, but still spent seven years basically living together. They can be drinking buddies.

Hermione is an annoying mudblood and Greg doesn't care what she thinks, but he's not allowed to use that word anymore so he probably mostly just shuts up in her presence.

'Friendly' might be a stretch... but he wouldn't deliberately be rude.

Blaise approves.

Hermione wants to remind Greg that she helped to save his sorry butt after his friend just about killed them all.

She can deal with that.

Harry - He doesn't quite trust that Goyle has turned over a new leaf, so expect him to make drop-ins once Greg starts at WWW.

Ben - He would be friendly at the bar, I don't think he remembers Greg from school very much.

Lisa - Remembers him as a bully, but would be friendly enough if they ever crossed paths.

Pansy - Obviously adores him.

I love that idea! We definitely have to do that, especially as Greg will be in beautiful magenta robes.

Yay for friendly bar folk. I can imagine Greg trying to get served by Ben rather than Seamus because for all Seamus tries to be over the war... Greg was still torturing his friends and people he cared about. There is no love lost there.

Greg barely remembers Lisa at all.

Pansy is wonderful, Greg adores her right back even if that is not a word he would use!

yay! :D

Ernie: So, have mama Goyle & Dinnywick tied the knot yet or are they still in the courting stage? If the latter, that will be one awkward wedding ;) I totally can't wait to play out the "Holy fuck, how will Goyle be my step-cousin? I knew my godfather/uncle was daft, but not this daft!"

Percy: Probably would barely remember him other than being one of Draco's minions, if that - but that only means it can prove interesting when they do meet! Percy, be warned, has little patience with people who are too slow.

Gemma: Would be cool with him, though they probably haven't interacted much at all with the possible exception of Goyle's first year, as Gemma was the one to show the firsties to their dorm.

Vee: Probably wouldn't have met yet, but hey, if Greg enjoys Ballycastle's quidditch or yoga, then Vee's your man!

I was thinking still in the courting stage mostly because I think it would be hilarious to watch Ernie's reaction and possibly forced 'family' interactions.

Ohh, Percy getting impatient with him could be fun. Greg thinks people should mind their own business and let him work things out in his own time (which is what his friends mostly do).

Yeah, Greg is not a spa person and I'm not sure I can see him being down with krup fighting either, so... random interactions at the bar? Maybe he likes the way she sings.

Nor is he a yoga person... and he's a die-hard Appleby supporter (even if he doesn't really go to matches anymore, too loud) both because he grew up in the area and because his cousin plays for them.

I totally agree! Some of ERnie's reaction may depend in part in what exactly Goyle did that last year at Hogwarts and how much Ernie would have heard of it/seen it. Ernie's particularly protective of fellow Hufflepuffs ;)

No worries on the rest, there's always opportunities to try new interactions :D

Alicia would be wary of him, I think, although that hearing impairment is tugging at her maternal instincts and 'must protect, must help!', so I keep telling her that she wouldn't know this! Unless she does, of course.

Melinda... is Melinda and would be kind and patient if he's ever in her shop, or even if she met him elsewhere.

Rose - all depending on how mean Greg was to Rolf, Rose would either just accept him as he is or see him as someone who had better not make one wrong move when in the vicinity of Rolf; she's got a wand and she's not scared to use it :P

I love your take on him :D

[info]goyle_g
2014-09-12 08:23 am UTC (link)
Hmm. I don't think she would know that since she's not working at St Mungo's. Anyway, Greg scowls at the idea he might need protecting. He's all fixed now, thank you very much.

Melinda makes food! I imagine Greg will be coming to her shop a lot now that he lives on Monument Alley. Mmmmmm cake. Anything with chocolate is good. Things with chocolate and caramel are even better.

I don't think Greg would have been that mean to Rolf. Certainly he isn't anymore. He likes people who accept him as he is and tries to do the same in return. (Unless you're obviously crazy like Luna or you ask too many questions.)

Thank you! He's fun to play, though it's kind of hard to get him started with new people.

[info]_alicia_
2014-09-12 08:28 am UTC (link)
LOL. Yeah, I don't think she would know either, so I'll just keep her wringing her hands over him in the back of my mind while in game she'll be just a touch wary.

Does he drink coffee or tea? Somehow I can just see Melinda enjoying his visits and maybe be at the point where she can make recommendations for him based on what she's seen him select previously?

Well, in that case, I don't see why Rose would have any problem with him. She's just a little protective of those (few) people she's truly close with.

Oh, I can imagine, but once he gets going, then that should be alright, right?

Coffee with lots of sugar, please. I don't know that he's been there much before now, he's only just moved in to the area, but in time she can make recommendations, definitely.

Right. My two.

Dean's not much of a fan, but he can serve him if necessary. But perceived muggleborns and purebloods not so much of a good combo.

Charlie... will probably know the family name, but willing to give him a chance, especially if George is. That said he wouldn't keep him out of the club unless he actually caused trouble.

I'm thinking Greg will try to be served by Ben and Bryn as much as possible, because he's supposed to not be getting in trouble.

And for this reason also he will probably not cause too much trouble in the club, though I think he wouldn't really be into it. Too loud, too many people.

LOVE HIM!!!
  • Cormac remembers him, and he's friendly, so anytime for a chat!
  • Adrian knows him from school and Slytherin of course, and they're both old families and the like. Perhaps some room for backstory?
  • Romilda thinks he's hot, she would do very fun things to him anytime.
  • Cho remembers him as one of Draco's minions, and probably doesn't like him much.

Thank You :-)

Yay, friendly! I don't know how they'll get on, but let's find out.

Hm, I'm drawing a blank on Adrian backstory right now but there's definitely potential there.

Greg has no understanding of his own sexual appeal, it just confuses him. And he thinks her shop is in bad taste.

Yeah, I doubt he and Cho would get on. Fun!

George says he's a welcome member of the WWW team, which is right now, him and Greg. However, the wards won't let anyone but a Weasley Apparate in or out of the shop so he's going to have to use the side door, and the cash register is unlikely to accept him as an employee until he's been there long enough to get paid, so expect a few vicious bites before payday.

;)

George works all day, every day. Are you kidding? Take a day off and leave an amateur in the shop?

http://saintly-george.insanejournal.com/3755.html#cutid1 is a post about WWW with stock and hours and such, that I'll add to here and there. Greg can pick whatever days he likes and we'll say they agreed on it.
