Name: pinkelephant42
Fandom(s) you are working on for this fest: Harry Potter, Heroes, Avatar: The Last Airbender
Participation: Writer and artist for this fest, I also beta and RP.
The one item from your list that you most want to complete: Moon Roses, a Harry/Neville fic that's gotten way out of hand, and Charred Fish, a Zuko-centric fic that's grown more than I thought it would.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: HPslashnotsmut, which is anonymous, due 10-9, and the two prompts for pheonix_flies, due 10-31.
Most fun item on your list: Surprisingly, Charred Fish.
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: The Veritiserum prompt for pheonix_flies, which I've written three times already and I still don't like.
How do you start a project? For both art and writing, I do a lot of sketching. For art, this is obvious: several quick studies to get the poses, the composition, the colors right. For writing, this means throwing everything in my mind onto the paper or the new document, moving them around, fitting them together, filling in the gaps, then deleting what I don't need anymore.
In what conditions do you work best? On my laptop, with my internet browser in the background set to sites like Wikipedia and Thesaurus.com for writing, and google images and stock.xchange for art.
One thing that always inspires you to create: Pixar movies.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: Finishing projects before I start new ones.
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Block out your preferred method of procrastination: for example, when I really need to get something done I have to uninstall certain games from my computer, or have my boyfriend hide the discs. XD
A teaser from something you've got at least partially done:
This is the beginning of Charred Fish, my Avatar fic:
Zuko finally catches up with the Avatar (again) when he's entirely unprepared for any sort of confrontation. He's tired, hungry, and has lost count of the days he's been stumbling through this unfamiliar forest. He wants revenge, he wants to fight, but most of all, he wants food. He's been eating berries, and fish when he's got the patience to catch them, since… since… well, he doesn't know how long it's been.
He eyes the meat turning above the fire. The boy from the Water Tribe stops to stare. The Water bender does as well, her eyes narrowed and lips pressed in a firm, distrusting line. The Avatar's eyes are wide but angry. He reaches for his staff. The Earth bender hasn't moved at all, and that's what Zuko finds the most distressing.
He feels like he should say something. He stands tall and declares loudly, "I am Zuko, prince of the--"
"We know who you are," Aang says softly, and his voice carries more power than Zuko's.
Zuko closes his mouth.
"You're lost, aren't you?" Katara asks.
Zuko blinks a few times. Is he really so transparent? "No! Of course not!" he says indignantly. "I've been looking for the Avatar, and now I've found you. I'm exactly where I should be."
Katara reaches for her canteen, and Toph clenches her fists. Aang signals for them both to back down with a wave of his hand.
"Then fight me," Aang demands. "I'm right here."
