Tonight we have 5 new characters and 1 new player. Welcome Mimi with Efe Dodge, and Aurora Sinistra (Connor), Piers Wadcock (Kati), Eli Song-Smith (Rhia) and Constance Flint (Mady)

Notes:

• December 16 will be our last day of doing Adds before we take a break for the Holidays. We’ll start processing Applications again on January 6. You can still Hold and submit Apps during this time, however.
• 4ths will be available after January 6 for those who have shown at least 1 month of consistent activity (no hiatus or summary notes) for 3 characters. Please seriously consider if a 4th is something you can handle before holding and apping one to be considerate to the people you’re plotting with. 3rds will continue to be available for those who have shown full activity for at least 1 activity check with 2 characters. And 2nd characters are open for anyone in the game.

Hai! I'm back from hiatus after the shit hell that was the month of November. Anyway, I'm back and am going to try and catch up with things. I know I need to get involved with the MAD rally but if there's anything else Amelia or Miriam need to be aware of please let me know!

Hello everyone! Welcome to activity check #2. As a reminder, our activity requirements depend on the character you play. So skip to the header that applies to your character and fill out the form at the bottom. Characters added this month before the 15th need one piece of activity. For characters added after the 15th, just say hello.

Journal entries, logs, narratives, news articles, and detailed IC/OOC posts can be used for activity. (Reminder: We don't use comment threads for activity.) There's no set length requirement, we just want to see you contributing to the game. A hiatus notice can be used for one piece of activity.

3. Purebloods are being uncapped BUT we want to stress that we have a lot of liberal Purebloods and could use more openly Purist Purebloods. If things get too unbalanced we will recap. Also Non-Canon Pureblood names are still Capped so if you’re apping a Pureblood check to make sure they’re canon. Class of 2016 is still capped for the time being
   
4. There will be no adds next week due to American Thanksgiving and the mods not being here.

Due to having more Death Eaters we went ahead and updated the DE Mentorship Pairings. Everyone is still in the same groups, we just added the newer DEs to existing ones:

Hi gang! So as you may have noticed from our recent pcal and in-game discussions, we're getting closer to the point where there's going to be pressure on all sides to identify members of both the Death Eaters and the Order. Which means it's time to play everyone's favorite game: "How suspected is my character!"

Because we don't want the suspect lists to just be a list of people in each group, we're going to ask players to fill out the survey below for ALL characters and place your character on a seven point scale of how suspected you think they should be.

1 - Strongly suspected of being an Order member
2 - Could be an Order member
3 - Has Order leanings
4 - Unsuspected
5 - Has Death Eater leanings
6 - Could be a Death Eater

Friendly Mod note that the WWN/DP would have covered the Dark Mark from Ottery St Catchpole last night first thing this morning. There was also a statement from the Minister. Death Eaters bad, swift retribution, etc etc.

Hi guys! We've had several questions and emails about this so figured we'd write a post up.

As per canon, no one but Dumbledore and the OG DEs knows Voldemort as Tom Riddle. Tom is a very common name, so that alone should not be confirmation on what Tom is being spoken of. Slughorn refers to him as so: "When I first met young Mr Riddle, he was a quiet albeit brilliant boy, committed to becoming a first rate wizard. Not unlike others I've known. Not unlike yourself. If the monster existed it was buried deep within." The Wiki also makes note of this: Riddle described the way he was seen as "poor, but brilliant, parent-less, but so brave, a school prefect, a model student." Due to his exceptional acting abilities, he was able to convince virtually all of the Hogwarts staff and instructors that this facade was his true personality. The sole exception to this was Dumbledore, who, though not necessarily suspicious of Riddle, never forgot about his misdeeds at the orphanage, nor his unsettling behaviour during their first meeting.

Riddle the student was not an avowed Purist outwardly despite the friends he had. He was an attractive, talented, helpful and charismatic young Head Boy with a stack of honors for Services to the School in his effort to close the Chamber of Secrets after poor Myrtle was killed and the only person who ever suspected it wasn't Hagrid was Dumbledore. People who went to school with Riddle may recall he turned down prominent job offers to work at Borgin & Burke before disappearing on holiday in Albania. He showed up briefly to interview for the DADA professor but the only people who really know about that instance are his OG DEs and Dumbledore. Dumbledore himself knows somewhat of what Voldemort has done to hide his identity and the reason he isn't sharing the surname is he believes that the risks of that knowledge outweigh the benefits.

All this to say that Riddle probably should not be the first guess for Voldemort when hearing the name Tom. If older characters want to wonder whatever happened to Tom and remember hearing about him dying in Albania or something that's totally fine. If you think your character would convincingly believe it's Tom Riddle please let us know and we'll be happy to work with your suspicions - on the caveat that you're aware that canonically Voldemort murders all non-DEs who suspect and know. There's a reason Dumbledore isn't giving up his surname easily - even to the Order.

Thanks and hopefully this clears a few things up, re: Voldemort/Tom. Trying to deal with JKR justifications for her plot holes is rarely easy but we so appreciate your patience and willingness to help us out.

Hi guys! We're so sorry to do this but adds are going to be pushed back until tomorrow because all three of us have been super distracted with real life this weekend.

Also we're still looking for a few (not evil) volunteers for our plot point on the 15th of the month:
• NOV 15 • The Ministry notifies the first round of employees who failed their security screenings. [VOLUNTEER 7] and [VOLUNTEER 8] have halfblood coworkers or family members who were demoted while [VOLUNTEER 9] has a muggleborn coworker who was fired.

We just need people willing to talk about the issue on the journals, because this is going to lead into a larger plot point regarding Ministry personnel changes. At this point the demotions/firings are seemingly at random (aside from the part where no purists were affected).

• NOV 5 • Bonfire Night. Closing arguments begin in the MONTAGUE and SIDEBOTTOM case. PHINEAS and AUGUSTUS “abduct” Wizengamot member Aglaea Fawley (Phineas’s mum), leaving a dark mark over her house. She gets to spend the next few days hanging out at XAVIER’s country home. MOODY and EDWINA are assigned. The same night, FENRIR and GAZ kill a more liberal Wizengamot member but there is no body or blood, making it look like a disappearance. Another dark mark is cast. NOVA and [AUROR 4] are assigned. [MEDIA 3] covers this.



Assume that the above Aurors were assigned to the above cases and that the DP and/or WWN covered the two Dark Marks fairly quickly after they occured. If a Media person or an Auror want the above slots feel free to volunteer as tribute.

Hi all!

Before we get to the welcoming, we have a few housekeeping notes:

• We are LOVING the influx of plot suggestions we’re getting to the mod email! However, we’re also very behind on emails so please be patient with us and don’t interpret our lack of response as disinterest!
  
• We are hoping to lift the pureblood cap soon, but we’re not quite there yet. While we’re very pleased with the influx of muggleborn characters, purebloods are still close to becoming a plurality of the cast, which we’d like to avoid. If you’re thinking about a new character, consider a halfblood!
  
• Also pureblood Death Eaters are not capped and we have two non-canon pureblood family name slots available that we are currently reserving for Death Eaters so if you’re considering Dolohov, Gibbon or Karkaroff, they can definitely be purebloods!
  
• The class of 2016 remains capped.
  
• A few world building notes:
  
  • A few weeks ago the question was raised in chat about how the patronus charm worked in game. The mods conferred and decided that for the purposes of the game: 1) No, dark wizards who try to cast a patronus charm are not consumed by maggots, although if you want to reference that as an insane old wive’s tale from your crazy aunt, go for it. 2) Death Eaters and other dark wizards generally cannot cast a patronus charm because they work extensively with dark magic, which is bad for the soul. 3) This is not a universal rule. If you think your Death Eater would be able to cast a patronus charm for some reason, talk to us! 4) A fully corporeal patronus is difficult to cast for any wizard and there are plenty of non-dark wizards who can’t manage it. 5) Casting a patronus isn’t a requirement for Aurors (or other DMLE personnel) but those who can’t manage it aren’t allowed to work with dementors/Azkaban.
    
  • We have also written up a little info about how unforgivable curses work in game (particularly the ever-confusing imperius curse) which you can find at the bottom of this page.

Hey guys! You have a few days still, but this is an early reminder to tag the activity check if you haven't already.

Just a quick note on activity. Because our activity requirements are on the lighter side and we want to ensure the game still has plenty of posts to comment on, we made the decision before the start of game not to accept comment threads as activity. For those of you using comments for your October activity, you're fine, but if you want to pick up a third character next month, your activity for this month needs to be in the form of journal entries, logs, narratives, news articles or IC/OOC posts. (And you still have 5 days!)
