Many, many years ago, when the Animation World was still new, there was a magical quill that was constructed to bring 2D creations to life; a quill that brought ink and paper to flesh and blood. It soon came to be in the hands of the infamous Walt Disney and with it, he created Mickey Mouse, and an onslaught of characters. As he grew older, he knew that he wouldn't live forever, and gave his animators similar pens, but with less power. Only his pen could not only create, but it could destroy as well once a character came to life. When he passed, his team of creative animators, commonly known as the Nine Old Men, locked away the Master Quill and put a powerful spell on the container so that no one would be able to open it unless they had the power of sixteen forces, which combined, create the Rainbow Key. The nine of them split the sixteen forces, giving some power to commonly known characters from Disney history, and the rest to uncommon characters, to give to an heir when the time was right. Currently, there are sixteen girls who hold the powers: Minnie Mouse with the power of love, Snow White with the power of ice, Cinderella with the power of glass, Aurora with the power of gold, Ariel with the power of shell, Belle with the power of blossoms, Jasmine with the power of sand, Alice with the power of alabaster, Wendy with the power of dust, Elionwy with the power of illumination, Jane with the power of papyrus, Kida with the power of crystal, Meg with the power of bronze, Pocahontas with the power of wood, Mulan with the power of bamboo, and Esmeralda with the power of silver.
The characters that roam around the parks are not, as some people choose to believe, people in costumes. They live and belong to a second world, where characters and cast members live in harmony, called Shadow Kingdom. It is called Shadow Kingdom, simply because it is a shadow of the Real World. In Shadow Kingdom, time moves differently, and the characters are given about a day's rest in-between the hours of the Real World, where the parks are closed. In every land, every kingdom, every country, every town, there is a portal that transports the characters and other cast members from their homes to the tunnels of the parks. When a new member of the Real World decides to join the employment of the Disney company, they are granted a new home in the Shadow Kingdom with a portal that leads to their work location.
Currently, there is a Darkness in Shadow Kingdom, and it's planning on destroying the happy civilization that was so cleverly created and taking control of the parks in the Real World. It wants to turn a world of happiness and dreams into a world of chaos and nightmares. It's planning on recruiting Disney Villains (both alive and dead) from the past Disney movies to help it on its quest to find the sixteen forces. With the Rainbow Key, it will open the chest that is home to the Master Quill and will create havoc and destroy the characters we have come to know and love.
But Mickey Mouse will not stand for it. He has discovered the Darkness and its plan and is recruiting his own army out of friends, neighbors, heros and sidekicks, but the Darkness preys on the weak of heart, and can turn them against their friends.
