Entry tags:! intro, patricia

Hey everybody! Patricia here with yet another character. Her bio is still incomplete and I still need to tag her icons but with this being a PSL (and therefore more free, app-wise) and with all I needed to do, mod-wise, I felt it was time. World, meet Sohvi Järvinen!

In case her name is not a giveaway, Sohvi is Finnish. She studied at Durmstrang and, having started there in 1995, she missed the whole Karkaroff era and ended up having a warmer and more pleasant experience out of her education than those who were part of the Triwizard delegation - under Karkaroff's replacement, fireplaces were allowed to provide comfort to teachers and students, for instance, and the Dark Arts class was replaced with the learning of defence. That's not to say that Sohvi's upbringing was a liberal one, though, as she hails from an old, pureblood and purist family and from a very young age was taught that she had to fulfil the Duties of a Lady. When she was told that her parents had just found her the Perfect Husband, she told them to go to hell, packed her bags, dyed her hair and moved to Britain. She's now working as an intern at the ICW, with Maks as her mentor (thanks to the help of Professor Grunokken, the Durmstrang History of Magic professor Karkaroff's replacement), and is living in a small bedsit in Diagon Alley and loving it. And she doesn't know it yet, but she's soon to meet a certain young fellow she's going to find very interesting...

So, that's Sohvi in a nutshell. She doesn't know many people yet apart from Maks (and maybe Taryn through him?), but she's very friendly and will talk to anyone. Thoughts?

She's close in age to Gertie! Maybe they know each other somehow? Gertie also probably knew from a young age that she was expected to enter into an arranged marriage, and even at 13 (or 12?) when her parents both stopped being her gaurdians, she was NOT into it. I have no idea if/how they would know eachother, but I think they'd get along.

Otherwise, I'm not sure if any of mine would have any prior history with her, but I think Sean might also get along with her!

Yes, she's two years older than Gertie, which is pretty close and therefore gives them plenty of bonding room. Sohvi will get her hands on a journal soon, so even if they don't know each other yet that will give them a reason to start interacting - and the same goes for Sean, of course. If the subject of arranged marriages ever pops up, I'm sure the girls will have plenty of reasons to groan about dumb traditions.

I'm interested in how she and Taryn will get on. Taryn is absolutely not threatened, but she IS amuses that other people think she should be.

Oh, Taryn has absolutely no reason to feel threatened - and if she did, Sohvi would have been extremely surprised because she doesn't see Maks that way.

That would certainly explain the rise in quality in the school.

YAY. Well, I think a lot of how their early interactions worked would depend on her day to day personality and how seriously she takes the ICW job - but if he knew of her particular background and what they have in common there, he would probably be more patient while they got to a positive working relationship...

Well, she is pretty much still a kid in some aspects, but when it comes to work she takes things very seriously and is determined to give her all - in a Ravenclaw-like way more than Hufflepuff. She would have told Grunokken of the circumstances behind her wanting to find a job, so him knowing about her background would have depended on how much the professor had told him, and what he would have asked her as she'll be earnest about it.

Well, he can get on board with the hard work side of things and he would probably be keeping a watchful eye out on her behalf, given circumstances :)

Awesome! Well, I'm currently working on her introductory journal post, if you want Maks to give her a nudge in the right direction. She practically doesn't know anyone outside the Ministry yet, after all. :)

And in three months he'll have more things on his mind than someone to keep an eye out for at work, so branching out will be good for her when his mind is on future baby Volkov!

Exactly. She doesn't want to cling to the same familiar faces because they've got better things to do like having babies.

The wedding is being postponed until after the baby is born, so hey, at least they're both rebelling a bit against traditionalism? :D

His POV is that it'll look like a shotgun wedding if Taryn goes down the aisle with a big bump, and he wants it to be what it is - a proper celebration. So, their son will be an actual guest instead. XD

Like Cormac and Allegra, who are taking a similar but more extreme decision and will wait until their kids can be ring bearer and flower girl at the ceremony.

Maks and Taryn aren't waiting that long because they had the wedding planned for a specific date anyway, and Maks needs the birth to be legitimised so he's in the family line of succession. COMPLICATED POLITICS, MAN.

[info]sohvi

That's why it's not as extreme. Cormac is all SCREW THE POLITICS.

Thankfully for Maks, his family is not screwed up like the McLaggens. Rejecting his legacy and starting everything all over again with his brother (and sister) is the best thing Cormac can do for his own kids.

Very much so, yes. But having their kids take an active role in the ceremony (and look adorable while doing so) is a definite bonus.

Thoughts... hmm... I don't know. ;)

Kidding, of course. Well, we've already got one connection planned... as for the rest of mine I think she's probably most likely to run into Allegra, since she works at the Ministry. I would've said they have similar backgrounds, except the only similar part is the old pureblood family.

It's possibly she may get to know Su as well, although she'll be giving up her job within Committee for Experimental Charms I think she'll likely take some sort of position at the Ministry relative to her experience/qualifications.

And for the rest, well I'm sure if they run into each other or whatever they'll be friendly enough.

Connection? Sohvi says she knows of no connection. ;)

But yeah, she's likely to run into Allegra and Su, even if they're in different departments. You girls better have some baby pictures at hand for her to squee over.

She might meet Kenneth at the bookstore, as she's rather bookish and loves visiting bookstores and libraries - aaaand maybe she'll visit Peter & Jamie's store too, you never know. Even if that doesn't happen, I'm sure they'll all know who she is once she says hello via journal.

Ooh yes there is that - my bad for forgetting. Exactly, there's always that.

Maybe hunt for some Easy A icons? I still have quite a few slots available (and was unable to find a Durmstrang-themed icon) so I might search for more romantic ones besides those two.

The other is this one... I tried both but ew the Penn link at wikicon is full of dead journals (aka deleted/purged). Just tried making one from an image i found, but didn't come out as well as i wanted... and at least 1/4 of his head was getting chopped off. :/

I think you should know all my characters by now...

Mel is the most likely to know her, as she also works in the ICW. She'll be nice. I think they could get on pretty well? Mel is all for rebelling, it's how all good revolutions start, after all.

Romilda, Jade and Evan are the closest to her in age but have no particular reason to know her. Jade is likely to hide, Evan won't have much reason to talk to her, and Romilda I think would actually like her because she's feisty.

Lucy and Alex are my next youngest. They have no particular reason to know her, but they will nice and horrible respectively.

Dean has nothing, but he'll be nice.

Lee, Barney and Sally - hmm. Barney will be friendly, so they will probably talk. Lee hasn't much of a reason to talk to her, but he thinks she's fun. Sally is a little sniffy about Sovhi turning up her nose at being a lady, but even she agrees that arranged marriages are silly.

Luke is a little scared of her, but Glenys may have more connections, due to being BFF with Taryn. At any rate, they'll become acquainted, and you know Glenys will be friendly.

Valentina may meet her at the ICW if she ends up doing some interpreting there, like I discussed with Heather.

Yakov will be happy to talk to a fellow Durmstrang alum, especially one flying in the face of parental expectations. He can tell her horror stories about Karkaroff.

Myron! I forgot him because he is older, and he does not forgive me for it, not at all. I think he'd actually like Sohvi if they get chatting. Rebels are rock and roll, man, plus they have a similar Ravenclawy mind going on.

Heh, now I want to see those two talking to each other. She won't know he's famous, mind you, though she might find his band's name vaguely familiar.

[info]sohvi

Mel: I think they'd get along very well indeed. Sohvi is still learning how to be a rebel, and some conflicting information she got from her upbringing might rear its ugly head in her subconscious from time to time, so she'll be grateful if there's someone out there guiding her in the right direction.

Romilda, Jade and Evan: Like I told the others above, they can just know of Sohvi due to her suddenly bursting into the journals saying hi and asking about stuff that's either British or at least non-Finn she might find weird. If she starts seeing Romilda around, she'll like her right back for the feistiness, but she's reserving judgement regarding Jade and Evan.

Lucy and Dean: Sohvi will react well to niceness.

Alex: On the other hand, she will raise an eyebrow at Alex and ignore him.

Barney: Barney might make her head spin on occasion, unfortunately. Strong accents confuses her brain at times when she's trying to translate mentally, but so does excessive verbosity.

Sally: Sohvi has seen her female relatives getting sniffy before, so it's a case of deja vu for her.

Luke: She stares at him. She's not scary, honestly!

Glenys: She'll definitely like Glenys. And Valentina too, when they get to interact.

Yakov: And in return, she'll tell him stories about the awesomeness of Grunokken.
