She twitched her gaze first one way, and then the other. How was she supposed to explain the hurting and the blood? But she had female relatives. More than a few. Enough to have picked some things up. Enough to bluff, maybe, to someone who wasn't a woman and couldn't smell a lie.

"I--I jus' went too fast. It didn't hurt that much. An' I was spotting." Did that lie work? It felt awkward on her tongue.

She glowered and subtly steered the subject away. "'Sides, blueberries are like bein' drunk! They're all... sweet an' juicy." She gave a decisive nod, and really wished he'd stop looking at her. Her gaze remained on his collarbones, just barely visible in the way his sweater fell.
