More bad news, yay!

So, anyone who hasn't eaten their chocolate yet, don't we suggest you don't. We strongly suspect it's the train arming us for something really horrible it's going to throw at us. It's something from our world, like the chocolate is, and we hope we're wrong. We really, really hope we're wrong. We hope we go through the next scenery without this thing showing up, and everyone can go, "wow Jaime you're so paranoid!" and I can go "yes, yes I am" and we'll all be relieved. I just know the train too well and if history is any indicat

We -- the witches and wizards from my world -- are working on our defenses, and if this thing shows up once we're moving again, we ... will do our level best to keep everyone alive safe with their souls in their bodies.

Edited for clarification The chocolate will make you feel better if you get touched by a Dementor.

If you're right does whatever it is affect vampires?

Yes

No

I don't ... know for sure. Probably? It kind of sucks out emotions, and I think as long as you're capable of emotions, it'll affect you. Fuck. Now I wish there was a vampire from my world to ask.

It sucks out emotions ... well, I know I'm capable of emotions so I guess it'll affect me. I hope you're wrong about this. As if I didn't all ready have enough problems to worry about

Man, I hope I'm wrong, too. I hope the train is just super pissed, is giving us things to make us nuts, and it can't actually do anything else to us.

So what is this thing you're talking about?

They're called Dementors. They're big grey scaly ugly things that float around, sucking emotion and happiness out of people. Muggles can't see them, and it's going to really suck ass if they show up on the train and we're the only ones that can spot them. I mean, you'll be able to feel them, you'll be subjected to what they can do to people, but you can't see them or fight them off.

They can also suck out your soul and leave you an empty shell. So. This'll be fun.

These things show up, will you let me know? Because if they do, I want to be prepared. I...I've been souless, and it's not fun. I really don't want to go through that again.

How can we fight them? I mean, can they move through walls and shit stuff?

I think the whole train will know if they show up. I mean, we'll post shit, but ... yeah. I'm just curious how you plan to prepare

You can't. I mean, you really can't. We can drive them off with patronus charms, but you can't destroy them. But they're corporeal, so they couldn't pass through walls. I'm pretty sure anyway.

so we will be throwing chocolate at this presumed phantom should it decide to become real? i do think clarification is in order before you start telling us what to do.

I didn't tell you what to do. I suggested you not do something. There's nothing to clarify because there's probably nothing you can do if they do show up.

Yes, but what Will is trying to ask is what does not eating the chocolate have to do with combating these creatures? Is there something special about it?

Not exactly. Probably any chocolate would work. It's a counter to the effects of Dementors. It won't save a person, it won't do anything to the Dementors, but it'll make an affected person feel better.

Maybe it's just a gift, but I just don't think the train's that nice.

i presume there is a reason why you suggested not to do something and told it to the trains masses, is there not. out of context, you have to admit the direction, or suggestion or whatever you want to call it, does sound ridiculous.

Ouch. Um. We'll look into that. It's just the only thing I've ever heard of being used to help the effects. Maybe ... what about like ... okay. Is it any kind of chocolate? Like could you drink hot chocolate?

I mean, hopefully I won't run into these things, but you know. But better safe than sorry I figure.

Private to Jamie:
Can't do any kinds of chocolate. I'm a vampire and unfortunately not of the still-able-to-eat-and-drink-regular-food variety.

Yeah, we're hoping I'm just super paranoid and imagining a worst case scenario at the sight of chocolate. I mean, hey, it's Christmas here. Maybe the train's giving us a Christmas present and not arming us for disastrous encounters.

Simon L

Maybe the train'll bend the rules. I know when it was throwing candy at us, people who normally couldn't eat things could eat those. Or hey, maybe it won't affect you at all. I mean, maybe their rules only apply to us, or something. There's no way to know unless it happens, and then ... we will do our best to counter it.

I know we're all practicing defenses, and there are spells in the work to minimize damage if anything does happen, so ... fingers crossed it won't be an issue. Or that they never show up at all.
