Waking up and seeing that we're underground was awful. All I can think about is the mines. I tried to go back to sleep, but then I dreamed about my father and the explosion. I'm afraid to close my eyes. I just hope I didn't wake anyone up with my screaming. I don't want to explain anything.

The nightmares are getting worse. I wish I could talk to Peeta about them. I...guess I could talk to Finnick, but he seemed almost haunted when we talked. I don't know if that's worrying over Annie or something else. If Prim and Gale aren't already thinking about the mines, I don't want to be the one to remind them. If I could, I wish I could erase the memory altogether, but

How soon until we're above ground? ~~I hate this.~~

Look, I didn't want to get into this on the network, because talking about the Capitol and the arenas brings up painful memories for everyone here from my reality. That death match I talked about is called the Hunger Games. The Capitol started it seventy-five years ago as a way for the districts to "repent." It's really a punishment for trying to take away their power. A boy and a girl from each of the twelve districts are chosen to participate in the games. In Panem, at your age, this would be your first year of being eligible for the games. There are people on the train who can and have killed someone your age in the games. I don't want you to get on their bad side.

The thing is that those of us who have won the games don't really end up winning. Everyone ends up going through some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder from seeing everything in the arena ~~and being forced to~~ . I did something that made the Capitol mark me as a threat to them, so they sent me and other victors back to the arena, presumably so they could kill me and get rid of the problem. So, sorry, but, in Panem, the Capitol does whatever the hell it wants.

I don't know. Sounds to me like they're panicking. I mean, you're a threat, right? You said that. So...they're afraid of you. And if they were really as strong as you thought, they wouldn't be afraid. There's no reason to be afraid if you know for sure you can win, right?

I mean, not that that's not really crappy, because it is. I mean, it sounds like it sucks a lot. A whole lot. But I'm sure they didn't want you to scare them, and yet you did. Maybe you're their...you know, Achilles' Heel.

I didn't know until people on the train told me that the other districts started rebelling after what I did. Mine was the first year the games had two victors, because ~~Peeta and I~~ my friend and I were going to eat nightlock together if they didn't crown us both. They saw me as some sort of figurehead, I guess. ~~I don't want to lead anyone~~

They do everything they can to break you.

Yeah, but that's how you show you're really a hero in the end. The bad guys do everything they can to break you, but at the end you're still standing and they're not.

Look, I know you think I'm just some stupid little kid, but I've been through a lot of bad stuff too and I do understand what it's like to fight in a horrible war and lose people you love.
