Does anyone have a world where space exploration is common that I could explore? I don't want to just pop into someone else's reality uninvited.

Mal's world is like that. He has a spaceship.

You could probably get River to take you there.

I'm sure Jayne wouldn't mind showing you around. I don't think he's doing much lately. I'd take you, but it's not my world yet.

Thanks.

Yet?

Yep. I'm going back with Mal to his world after this war stuff's all over. Ice said I could since me leaving my world wouldn't have that much of an impact on my reality.

Wait, we go back after all this?

But what if we died?

Not that I personally died, but I know people who have.

I don't know. You could ask Ice; she'd probably have some idea. I know there was a guy before who got pulled in right before he died, and I think there was talk of sending him back a few minutes before that, so he could change it.

But I really don't know. Maybe it's a case-by-case thing.

Huh.

Okay.

That's weird.

Anyway, wars tend to take a while, so it's not an immediate worry.

So, space. And exploring it. Who are Jayne and Mal?

[info]i_find
2009-06-11 12:21 pm UTC (link)
Jayne is Jayne Cobb. He's a mercenary, so you might have to pay him or bribe him with something - he likes women.

And Mal is Malcolm Reynolds. He's the captain of Serenity.

Oh, and there's Simon, but he probably wouldn't be much good for ... exploring. He's a doctor and kind of ... well, he's Simon.

Ooookay. There's not much to bribe with, since I'm decidedly not female.

What is it with doctors and space? Dr. McCoy didn't like space either.

[info]i_find
2009-06-11 12:27 pm UTC (link)
So that leaves payment. Or asking one of your female friends nicely if they'd go screw the merc.

And I ... Hank? Or a different Dr. McCoy? He was in DauphinMare with us, but I guess he didn't make it to Dar Oma.

[info]dasummers

Yeah, Henry McCoy.

So, since McCoy is a surprisingly common name, was yours blue and furry, by chance?

Yes, and a mutant. Like me. And John, and Bobby, and Rogue and Logan. We had a few others, too, but I don't think all of them came.

Which just brings up the weirdness of why some people came and some didn't. The 'lag' theory isn't holding much water anymore.

What's your name, then?

Oh. Pfft. I'm Jaime Davies. Or Finder, if you were looking for code names.

Ah. I have no idea who you are. But that's okay.

I'm Darius Summers, or Dare, whichever. Actually, no call me Darius. Dare is stupid.

I don't think Dare is stupid.

But now that you've posted that where everyone can see, I'm sure you'll be Dare to everyone who likes to antagonize people. Like Corey.

But that's the point of a codename, isn't it? Lets you weed out the people not close enough to use your real name.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]i_find
2009-06-11 01:23 pm UTC (link)
I guess. But when you go to school with them and learn their real names first ...

... well, we just laughed at each other's codenames. Especially Prism's and Vanity's.

[info]dasummers
2009-06-11 01:27 pm UTC (link)
My brother was Prism for a while, actually. But it didn't quite suit him.

Typically, we called each other by code names all the time, during school. To prepare us for combat, or whatever.

But I get what you're trying to say.

Really? Did he have rainbow hair?

Our Prism did. But we formed a Useless Mutation club, even if it was just a joke. Because no one was useless - we just had to try hard to find uses for some of us.

No, he was made of diamond.

That's. . . interesting.

Made of ... diamond? That must've been unique.

Vanity could make mirrors. Our Prism could make rainbows.

It's just a lucky thing our mom could do the same thing. He was born that way.

Those are a lot more interesting than standard battle powers. Being able to rip things apart with your bare hands isn't going to help you know if you've got bad hair before a job interview.

[info]i_find

He was born all covered in diamonds?

Ouch.

And right. She was learning to use the mirrors as shields. It was kind of neat. And they were training me to find bombs and stuff. Not to like, actually go up to the bomb, but to follow the pull and point them in the right direction.

Not covered in, made of. Like a golem. It was an interesting time.

So you could sense the chemicals used in them?

[info]i_find

Still ouch.

And no. I just ... find things. Car keys, hidden objects, captives, bombs, the latest fashion, and so on. If it is known to exist, I can find it.

[info]dasummers

I would assume so, yes.

That's pretty handy.

It is. It'd be more useful if I could defend myself so I wouldn't have to take an entire guard with me, but ... it is what it is.

Why wouldn't you just learn how to fight? There are mundane workarounds for everything. I mean Hell, Magneto has zero psionic ability, but no telepath can track his thoughts, or even see him on the Astral Plane.

Because no one taught me yet. I was working on learning though, after our last round in Riverfell. Or was going to. I just don't think anyone who values their feet is really keen on me having a loaded gun or anything like that.

How do you feel about martial arts?

I don't know. I've never tried it. I wouldn't mind learning though.

It would be interesting to be a teacher instead of a student, if you don't mind learning from me.

We could give it a shot. No harm in that. Don't know what kind of a student I'd be though.

That's okay. I don't know what kind of a teacher I'd be. If I suck, Nathan and Scott are here and better at teaching than me, so we'll get you trained up some how!

Sounds like a plan. Just let me know when you want to start. I'm sure we can find a reality with a place to practice or whatever, if there's not a good place here.

I've got a good place to practice, too.

Um, my parents' school came with me, and so did the training room.

Sure. There's apparently a universe we can bribe our way into, but I don't think you're going to like the bribe.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]makeapplejuice

Uh, what is the bribe then? *Color me really afraid to even ask.*

Apparently one of them's a mercenary that wants to get laid.

I suggest we double team the captain on the forum, see if he'd be willing to shuffle us around.

Oh...uh, I am going to have to pass on that one. Let me know how the universe was when you get back?

[info]dasummers

If I get in, I'll drag you along.

I meant verbally double team, not. . .

That was bad.

I'm sorry.

Oh golly. Good, it is okay, no need to be sorry. Just a misunderstanding.

I am sure you will get in and thank you, that is really sweet of you.

Well, considering the Captain (Mal, apparently), hasn't actually answered, I think that it's probable that it will take some time.

Darius. And yeah. I thought I might be able to do it from my world, but apparently the space ship was needed outside the scope of my world.
