[The impact sends her back into the closest pew, arm and legs askew. For a second, it looks as though she might be unconscious, head turned away from him -- but then she straightens, wobbly like a puppet with its strings cut, and presses the back of her hand to the bleeding cut on her mouth.]

[She feels -- odd. Detached. She thinks she might have cracked a rib, but it's a distant pain, muted. When she does look back at him, there's contempt in her eyes (not unusual) and something else, too.]
