RP: I don't do cheap pick up lines
When: 2 February 2004
Who: Pansy Parkinson, Kenneth Towler
Where: the Cask and Cauldron in Diagon Alley
Private/Public: Private
Rating: Adult with NWS icons
Summary: Pansy is doing a little research and runs into a handsome man that she's been meaning to chat up....er...look up.

Pansy stepped into the Cask and Cauldron and took a moment to look around. She had been visiting various inns and bars along Diagon Alley, getting a feel for what was available. She had the idea that she might establish a business relationship of sorts with the places that met her standards...once the hotel was up and running, of course. And if she happened to get an idea that she could use in her hotel, all the better.

Mostly, she was getting ideas of what she absolutely would not tolerate. But that was good because she did intend to have a small bar in the hotel.

This place ranked up there with the Leaky Cauldron, Pansy decided with a slight curl to her lip. Maybe the word cauldron in the name was a sign. She would not be using it in any of the places in her hotel.

She was tempted to just leave, but in the interests of being thorough, she would stay for a bit. She moved to the bar to order a drink. She wondered if they could manage a Turquoise Blue. She'd be lucky if they had anything but beer and more beer.

"A Hit Wizard," he told her with a smile, deciding that he rather liked her expression. "Our office has had so many reports in from people saying they've spotted Lestrange only for him to not be there by the time we arrive."

Kenneth tilted his head and watched her. "Now it might not be as dangerous but it sounds infinitely more interesting than a wild goose chase. What do you plan on doing with said building once it's completed?" he asked, curious to know more about what she'd been up to. Although he'd heard of Pansy Parkinson throughout the years, he couldn't say he knew her as much as her reputation.

"It won't kill you and if you want champagne, my flat's only around the corner and I'll be happy to supply you with that," he told her, his tone slightly suggestive. "I don't usually come to such places but they're handy on the way home. I don't look my best after a day like today although I don't seem to have scared you off so perhaps there's hope for me yet."

If anything, her eyes got bigger. 'A Hit Wizard?' she repeated, impressed. 'I know someone who does that. It sounds fascinating, but of course, he won't tell me a thing about it. He's a very proper sort, I think. I bet he's a rule follower,' she added, the idea making her smile. 'That's sooooo not me!' she laughed.

Giving him a suggestive look, she added, 'I like naughty, myself....' And then she gave him a wink.

Her eyes shone as she said, 'I'm starting a hotel. In Diagon Alley, near the Alexander. Very hoity toity and very, very expensive,' she reported. 'Twelve rooms, eight smaller suites, and four larger ones. A small restaurant and bar, a few shops.' She sighed happily. 'And a spa!' She was very excited about that part.

'Really?' she said, tilting her head and looking up at him. 'I like champagne. She had to laugh. 'You'll do,' she smiled. 'Good enough to make me regret not running into you again on New Year's Eve,' she admitted.

"Caleb by any chance?" he asked, guessing from the description. Proper was not the word he'd use to describe Caleb but then he'd known the man for years. He suspected Pansy didn't know about Caleb's approach to paperwork. "He's not exactly a rule follower in the office although I can see why he'd give that impression."

Kenneth smiled mischievously at her. "I'm rather fond of naughty myself," he answered.

"A hotel? I do hope I'll get the guided tour including the suites," he said, moving closer to her. "It sounds like a very good idea indeed. I'm sure it'll be very well-received."

He smiled at her. "I like champagne too so if you want to get out of here we can do," Kenneth felt slightly guilty about New Year's Eve although he was sure she'd found somebody to go home with. "I'm terribly sorry I abandoned you. Obviously it was a temporary bout of insanity."

'Well, thank Merlin!' Pansy exclaimed, laughing. 'He'd never get anything done, otherwise! There's being a proper gentleman, but honestly, you can take it too far. I wouldn't have thought, but you can!' she informed Kenneth. 'Naughty is ever so much more fun!' Her eyes twinkled at him as she gave him a smile she hoped sent shivers of delight through him. Although, that didn't seem to happen to men. She wondered why?

He stepped nearer, at least. Something was working. 'I'd be happy to show you around when it's done. I absolutely need to make sure that everything is comfortable and beautiful and does it's intended job.' Like the beds. She really should try them all out. That was very, very important.

She gave him a pleased smile in return. 'I'll let you make it up to me,' she informed him prettily. 'Maybe that night's loss will be this night's gain...' Well, no one had ever accused Pansy of modesty.

She turned to the bartender. 'Buy a better pumpkin juice, at least. It can't be that expensive!.

"And what's life without some fun?" Kenneth asked, reaching out to tuck a stray lock of her hair behind her ear. "He's a gentleman when it comes to women though from what I've heard."

Or he assumed so. After all, how any red-blooded male couldn't and wouldn't want to shag either Jemma or Pansy he didn't know.

"You'll have to let me know, sweetheart. I don't mind giving you my opinion," he said with a smile, imagining only too easily what the guided tour would include. "I'm sure it will be as beautiful and graceful as its owner."

Kenneth took the opening for what it was and leaned down to press a soft kiss to her lips. "Maybe it will," he murmured, pulling back reluctantly. "I'd like it to."

'My feelings exactly!' Pansy laughed, turning her head slightly so his fingers lingered against her hair. 'Like I said, you can take being a gentleman too far!' she added, making a face to show what she thought about that. 'He did take me riding, though, and I enjoyed that. Couldn't walk the next day, but Evelyn says I must be out of shape. Do I look out of shape?' she asked him, posing slightly for him.

She smiled, pleased. 'It would be fun to inspect the place with someone else,' she decided, her eyes shining. 'I will certainly let you know. And it will or I won't be opening it!' she laughed. 'Beautiful, elegant, classy, and spectacular,' she added, beaming.

Pansy lifted her chin for his kiss. 'I can pretty much guarantee you of success,' she whispered, putting her hand up to his chest and letting her fingers glide along a bit.

"You look perfect but I'm sure she only means that you're using different muscle groups to those you use normally," he reassured her, wondering how on earth Pansy could think she looked out of shape.

"Just like its owner then," he said, deciding she was really much prettier when she seemed interested in something. "And I hope I see you sooner than then. You're rather intriguing, Hedonist."

He kissed her again when her fingers touched his chest. "Then why don't we get out of here if we both know what we want. Your place or mine, sweetheart?"

Pansy preened happily. 'You're a lovely man!' she told him, pleased at the compliment. 'Obviously very discerning,' she added with a sparkle of amusement in your eye. 'You're observation skills must make you really good at your job....'

She beamed at him. 'You, darling man, may see me any time you wish, you have only to ask,' she told him. Who could resist such a pretty man? 'And intriguing? Oooooh, I like that! Some day I shall have to try mysterious, I think. I might like that, too. But intriguing sounds just lovely!'

His kisses were soft, his lips light against hers, but Pansy had high hopes of more to come. 'Mine, if you don't mind a little rustic,' she decided. 'I have champagne. I even have a few other things, as well.' She smiled up at him. 'Do you trust me to apparate you?' she asked.

"Of course I'm lovely. No unlovely man would be allowed in your presence, would he?" he asked with raised eyebrows, quite sure that Pansy didn't mix with the dregs of society.

Kenneth smiled when she grinned at him. "Are you sure you mean that? I might be owling you day after day," he joked, sure that he wouldn't do any such thing. He generally tended not to chase but Pansy, as well as seeming like a nice person, could be a source of information and at the moment, he couldn't forget that even if it didn't feel morally right to even think it. "I'm sure you can do mysterious when you're older but for now you should be beautiful, intriguing and fun. It works well for you and you're exceptional at it."

He kissed her once more, harder, and his arm wrapped around her waist. "I don't mind rustic as long as we're not going outside," he told her honestly. He wasn't keen on her Apparating him but he knew he could get out of wherever she took him within seconds. "Of course I do."

Pansy put her head back and laughed. 'Quite true!' she agreed with twinkling eyes. 'I don't associate with just anyone,' she added. 'But you, my dear man, certainly make the cut.' Quite high on the list, in fact, she thought. Lovely lips and that hair was to die for. Her fingers were just itching to run through it.

'I don't think so,' she said frankly. 'You don't have an air of desperation about you. Besides, I like people. I like to talk and owl so even if you did, it would take a lot to bother me,' she told him airily. She dipped her head and preened at the compliments. He was very, very good at those, she thought. She knew she liked him for more than his handsome face and well-built body. Of course, those would have been enough, if she were being honest. That he knew how to make her go all giddy was just icing on the cake.

'No,' she laughed. 'Not quite that bad, but there is a roof, at least. And I won't splinch you,' she promised. She put one hand on his arm and one on his chest as she concentrated on their destination.

She did hate apparating, she thought, but they arrived safely, and she only bobbled a bit when they got there. She looked up at the edifice of her home. It wasn't so bad from the outside, she thought, the lights around the entrance and eaves making it look rather cozy. 'Come in,' she said, putting a hand on his arm so he could pass the wards.

"I'm so glad. I'd be devastated if I didn't," he assured her, deciding that paying compliments to Pansy was worth it alone for the reactions he got.

"No, I'll admit I don't send them often," he said with an unrepentant smile. "Although finding the time to send owls to anybody with how much I'm working at the moment doesn't help."

Kenneth looked up at the outside of the house, deciding it was far from rustic although he wasn't surprised that Pansy thought that way considering it wasn't in the middle of a city. He steadied her when he noticed she was looking a little wobbly on her feet and walked into the house with her, eyes automatically looking for exits. "So how long have you had this place?"

Pansy smiled and gave him a mishievous shrug of her shoulders. She was cute and she knew it. Of course, it helped when the other person knew it, too!

She looked sympathetically at him. 'I suppose things are quite hectic right now,' she said. 'Have you been so terribly overworked?' she asked. 'I hear the coffee is terrible and the biscuits are hard. I've been meaning to bring something better by, but I imagine it's a bit tricky, getting in to see the Hit Wizards. You don't suppose they'd confiscate my coffee along with my wand, do you?' She knew the Ministry made you give up your wand when you visited. 'Do you have a nice desk?' she asked curiously.

'Just since Christmas,' Pansy answered as she led Kenneth through the entry and hallway to the drawing room. Although, I suspect my father has had it quite some time. It was his Christmas present to me,' she told him. 'But I think this is where he has been going when he needed to get away from Mother,' she giggled. 'It reminds me of him, somehow.'
