RP: An Unwanted Problem
When: 19 March 2004
Who: Rodolphus Lestrange, Gabrielle Delacour
Where: Lestrange Manor
Private/Public: Private
Rating: PG
Summary: Rodolphus has to clean up Rabastan's mess. He is not impressed.

Rodolphus sat in the small conservatory, eating his breakfast as he perused that morning's Daily Prophet. He hadn't quite expected Jorkins to move that quickly on the Polyjuice issue and made a mental note to have some sent in from the Continent forthwith. His contacts would know how to get it in quietly and quickly before the Aurors discovered more of the black market routes. It would cost him more than he liked to pay but it would be worth it.

He turned the page and coninued reading, only gradually becoming aware of the presence of the distressed house elf. The little creature was hopping from one foot to the other and wringing its hands together. Altogether a picture of uncertainty and indecisiveness.

He set the paper aside and arched an eyebrow at the creature. "Yes?"

"M...Master!" the house elf squeaked in fright. "Tassy needs instructions about what to do with Miss Gabrielle now that Master Rabastan is no longer here."

Rodolphus stared at the house elf blankly for a moment. Miss Gabrielle? Who the hell was Miss Gabrielle? Then the penny dropped and he scowled. His brother's little half-breed bint. The Veela girl.

He tapped his fingers on the table for a moment, tempted to tell the house elf to leave the girl alone and let her starve. But that was pointless and would only leave him with a body to dispose of. Once again he would have to clean up one of his brother's messes. But at least this one he might be able to use for his own purposes.

"I shall deal with her," he said crisply as he grabbed his cane and levered himself to his feet.

The house elf bowed and diappeared with a crack, looking relieved at having the decision taken out of its hands. Rodolphus sighed at his interrupted breakfast and leaned on the house wards for a moment. It was not difficult to find the girl and he slowly limped his way up to the room she was occupying. He didn't bother knocking on the door, just opened it and limped into the room, his expression cold and grim.

"Girl, come here," he ordered as he leaned on his cane with both hands.

Gabi was bored out of her mind. Not to mention confused. Since early Saturday, Rabastan had not been up to see her. Nor had he sent her a message or told her to practice any new spells. He'd gone off telling her he'd see her in the morning and then she'd heard nothing.

If it wasn't for the house elves bringing her food she'd think he'd forgotten all about her. She didn't like to be forgotten.

The sound of the door made her look up, hoping perhaps for Rabastan though the man opening the door was someone she'd never seen before, even if he didn't look too different from Rabastan. It was his voice that got her moving, however, the authority in the voice not the command.

Getting up from the chair at once she walked over to him quickly, wondering who he was and deciding this had to be Rabastan's brother. She wondered what he was there for.

Rodolphus looked the girl up and down impassively. This was the Veela girl his brother had been hoarding, the one he seemed to think was such a prize. Rodolphus couldn't see it. She was a half-breed, a non-human, and as such no fit pawn to use in the chess game he was playing. She was pretty enough as such things went but her Veela blood rendered her as useless as any beast.

"My brother no longer lives here," he said crisply. "You are to be released. I recommend that you cease the foolishness that led you to fall into his grasp in the first place if you do not wish to end up there again."

He cocked his head slightly as he pulled out his wand. "My brother does not care for you. You are a toy, a pawn in one of his games. He has always excelled at manipulation, especially of foolish little girls such as you. I suggest you remember that."

Gabi blinked, looking up at him without knowing what to say. 'Released?' he asked, not really having thought of herself as a prisoner for some time.

'Rabastan was teaching me magic,' she said calmly, surprisingly so because she did not feel calm. Numb perhaps, but definitely not calm. 'He wanted me to have his child.' Which hadn't been entirely pleasant, but not the worst she'd done. It was only once anyway.

Holding her head high, she looked up at Rodolphus. 'Are you just letting me go?' she wasn't sure she trusted this man. 'What do you gain from that?' And where should she go? Fleur didn't want her back, she had no where to go.

Rodolphus snorted and looked coldly amused. "Rabastan was manipulating you, conditioning you, if you will. He was being kind, was he not? Gentle? Friendly, even? It is a common tactic used when trying to brainwash a person into believing what their captor wants them to believe. Had you ever tried to escape you would have encountered my brother's true face."

His expression darkened. "YOu would never have been permitted to carry a Lestrange child to term. You are a Veela, a non-human. Nor are you a pureblood. Any child you bore would be nothing more than a mongrel and certainly not acceptable to the manor wards as a blood relative."

"I will be obliviating you first," he said calmly, raising his wand. "I shall be removing the memory of the location of this place from your mind. The rest you may keep as a salutory lesson, an example of your own foolishness if you will." He arched an eyebrow. "As for what I gain? One less problem to deal with. My brother kidnapped you without my knowledge or approval. I did not wish to have you here. You are not my problem."

His words were confusing at first, making her head spin and making her half want to cry only she was too stubborn to give in when Rodolphus was there, she didn't much like him.

His next words though had her blood cold and she raised her chin in defiance of them, her eyes flashing. 'You English do not see the power the Veela blood brings. I am as much of pure blood as you are, if of a different kind, a stronger kind.' She'd listened to her grandmother enough times to know the words by heart, have them deeply rooted in her. She believed them, and no one would ever convince her differently.

She pulled back at the sight of the wand, not liking the idea at all, knowing that there was little she could do to keep him from actually hurting her. Or killing her. She would not show her weakness though, but kept her anger instead. 'Your brother obviously sees value in places where you do not,' she said with a confidence she did not really have. 'He must be the smarter of the two of you.'

Rodolphus looked amused. Well, he had warned the girl. If she refused to listen and wished to die along with his brother that was her problem. It was not his place to convince people that they were wrong and 'turn them back to a better path'. In his opinion, people were free to make their own mistakes and face the consequences.

However this matter of her bearing Rabastan's child would have to be dealt with. He was not cruel enough to render the child barren though the thought was tempting. No, it would be easy enough to simply alter the blood wards. Something only he, as eldest of the blood line and holder of the wards, could do.

"You may believe that if you wish," he said dismissively, limping towards her. "You may even run off to join him if you are truly as foolish as you seem. But remember that my brother earned his place in Azkaban... twice." He levelled the wand at her. "Obliviate"

The girl went still and her eyes became distant. Rodolphus worked quickly but carefully, excising all memory of the location of Lestrange Manor. He then placed his wand against her temple and said in little more than a whisper, "Stupefy."

He caught the girl when she collapsed then levitated her over to the couch. It didn't take more than a moment to make a small cut in the palm of her hand and allow her blood to drip on the floor. He then healed the cut and pointed his wand at the blood. A few rolling, ringing words later, the blood seeped into the wood of the floor and disappeared entirely.

Rodolphus nodded with satisfaction. Now any child of this girl's blood would be refused entry to the family areas by the blood wards, whether Rabastan fathered it or not. The girl's blood had been accepted as anathaema by the wards.

He then levitated the girl again and placed one hand on her shoulder, apparating them both to a location not far from Hogsmeade. It was dangerous but best to leave her somewhere where they would know who she was. He walked as close to Hogsmeade as he dared then levitated her as close to the nearest house as he could. He then lowered her to the ground and apparated back to Lestrange Manor. Good. That was done and she was no longer any concern of his.
