entr'acte: a reintroduction and an introduction full-stop.
My darlings. My long-lost loves. It's Marie. I am back from an unannounced quasi-hiatus, and I hope to be back with a vengeance, but you'll be forgiven for not knowing who I am (or for wondering who the hell I play). For our mutual benefit, let's do the rundown. *** & oh my god, forgive my laughable attempt at brevity.
Sir Heron U. Shaw (adjustments), decorated Holy Knight and former Feldwebel (Sgt Mjr, if you will) of that elite set of templars, the the Silver Blades. Cut down in the field a bit before his time, he was forced into early retirement and has since taken over training duties for the Blades, and these days teaches several supplementary courses for many different levels of ability within the FG. He's stoic and gruff, but that's possibly just because he spends a lot of his meditation time trying to kick the (he knows) petulant notion that it'd better for the Blades if he was still in charge. Korporal Rictor Cassul was/is a mentee & recruit, and it'd be unsurprising if your character at least knows who he is, partic if they are connected to the fighter's guild or the church in any capacity. FEEL FREE TO HIT ME UP; NEVER TOO LATE, ETC. Mme Lena (birth name: Eleanora) Saint Laurent is of Anjou extraction, from a crumbling old family with nothing going for them aside from their faded name. A toxic home environment + an impulsive youthful judgment call led her to run off when she was eleven, and she ended up taking a one-way trip to Emillion. After starting to starve on the streets, little Lena started picking pockets, and she herself was eventually picked up by a cabaret owner in town named Johanna, who took Lena under her wing and into the Thieves Guild by association. Lena trained under this mentor for several years as the heir apparent to the latter's small empire, until a rival gang assassinated Johanna and burned down her cabaret as retaliation for expanding into the wrong territory. A Bard of some noted skill at that point (her instrument of choice is the harp), Lena found employment at the Ruby as a performer, and subsumed her grief into cold hard ambition. She scrimped and saved (and even selectively entertained certain other services) for years in a secret bid to take over the elite brothel, and eventually succeeded in purchasing the place out from under the owner, hostile takeover style, with a hint of blackmail thrown in for flavor. These days she runs the Ruby from behind the scenes like a disembodied iron fist hidden in a stylish velvet glove (although the scope of her influence is well-known inside the TG). In the eight years since, the Ruby since has expanded its identity beyond just straight S&M, aggressively assuming the mantle of Classiest (and Priciest) Whorehouse in Town--diversifying their portfolio, if you will. You can bet she's made enemies, especially among those entities in town who aren't accustomed to brothels that don't fork over a percentage in both Gil and girls. Fortunately, she's also made some powerful friends, and her connection to the city's politics has only grown stronger, along with her status within the TG. Personality-wise, Lena is like a sphinx: even her handful of closest friends can't always tell what she's thinking, and she plays it close to the vest in most situations, especially in mixed company. She is rigorously professional, from her business practices down to her flawless manicure. Her weaknesses aren't obvious, but they're specific, and above all she has gained a very quiet reputation for running a bit of a safe house within the Ruby. She is particularly biased toward protecting women. Furthermore, the people under her employ know they fall under a powerful protection, and a vengeance that's pretty unforgiving toward outsiders--some of the workers at the Ruby refer to her as "Mama Jewel," a nickname she doesn't adore, but has never protested. Privately, she doesn't entertain much in the way of love affairs, although she does enjoy the occasional dalliance. Solitude, she thinks, is the price she pays for safety andcontrol in a very dangerous world. Tentative existing connections: Miles (former partner in crime, one of her few male friends, see profile for details), Ash (beloved employee), Ari (former harp student), Gillian (contract protection), Mathieu (adorable youthful council member of her bemused heart), insert your name here??? Desperately wanted connections: THIEVES AND NE'ER-DO-WELLS, plus general associates from within the Guild (presumably several given her long tenure). Patrons of the Ruby. Employees (think big! Dancers, bartenders, waiters, doorfolks, etc). Security. Benefactors. Enemies. Political alliances--even coerced alliances, wink wink. Just literally everything. Can you tell I'm excited. Et cetera. |
