There were a couple of cafés and diners still open in the Theatre District at this hour, and there was one near the theatre where Merri and Drake had gone to see a production of Mama Mia. It was smaller than the Sphere but it had its own charm to match the style of the musical it showcased for the month, which only added to Merri’s enjoyment of the show. The diner they chose, similarly, had a quality about it that Merri couldn't quite put his finger on; it felt antique, in its way, with all the floors and tables and chairs of a particular red wood that Merri didn't often see in Emillion anyway; and yet it was brightly lit and warm and welcoming. It felt almost like his parents' store back in Risca, and he decided that he loved it for this reason. When the waitress brought their drinks, Merri was still beaming. “That was so much fun!” he chirped for what had to be the tenth time since the encore. “Thank you so much for coming out with me – and for paying! You really didn’t have to!” |
