Occasionally, on the day of, he would walk past a house in the Commoners to see a trio of colorful cloth carp fluttering in the wind, but that was the most Merri had ever seen of it in the city. "I can't wait to go, and to see where you grew up!" It always sounded exotic to Merri, but then, most places outside Emillion or even Valendia did.
He tucked the date away in his brain to approach Peony and Toku about later, but for now, it was enough to be with his best friend, sharing coffee and conversation. In truth, Merri couldn't have asked for a better birthday.
