9:30 AM - CATHEDRAL. The morning had begun quite normally. Her presence in the Cathedral, of course, was nothing unusual, and so those visitors in attendance afforded her little attention as Lex went about her own business. However, as she prided herself on spotting the unusual, an elderly woman lingering in the back of the pew caught her attention. After a long and silent debate, curiosity seemed to get the better of her and Lex wandered over. "Can I be of assistance?" The woman, enamored with the bundle in her lap, looked up at the sound of Lex's voice. Recognition passed slowly over her features before she replied, her voice filled with earnestness and also a twinge of regret. "It's nothing, Almalexia," the old woman said. "I've simply become too old to do my own errands." "Oh?" Lex didn't sound convinced, but her eyes moved to the items in the woman's possession. "I wanted to send out these invitations," she explained. "The harvest festival is coming soon, and I always make sure to hold a party. But this year..." Lex cleared her throat. "I suppose you could pay for a courier, perhaps?" The old woman only sighed, clutching the bundle of letters. They were a small stack, tied together with a string--nothing terribly difficult to carry, by the look of it. "Not this year, and not on my income. Oh, I'd hoped to find some answer while sitting here, but..." Lex looked around. There weren't very many people milling about that morning, and whatever answer she apparently seemed to be looking had already been found--the old woman had her, hook, line and sinker. Brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, Lex took a long breath. "I was considering running errands in the city myself today," she said. "Do you suppose I might be able to deliver them for you?" The woman's face lit up. "You would do it? Oh, Faram bless you, Almalexia--" "It's certainly nothing," Lex insisted, reaching for the bundle of letters. Embarrassed now, she could feel the heat rushing to her cheeks. "I will relay the results to you when you next return." And as quickly as she could, Lex began to walk to toward the entrance. This task wouldn't be so difficult, would it...? 10:15 AM - TENEMENTS DISTRICT. This was madness. The dog, to the eyes of any passersby on the street, seemed to be chasing an invisible adversary. A squat and angry looking bulldog, the beast snarled and slobbered and sprang with ferocious determination at the unseen, chasing it from the lawn of a broken down residence to a cluttered alley nearby. Lex, meanwhile, was very disturbed that her Vanish spell hadn't deterred the beast in the slightest. Clamoring noisily up the side of an empty dumpster, the spell disintegrated, and the slight young woman was seen standing on the top of the dumpster, a satchel bag slung messily over one shoulder, her breath ragged and her eyes wide. "This is inconvenient," she lamented to herself, looking down at the bulldog. It was attempting with little success to bound up the side of the dumpster, growling and barking with an endless determination. 11:45 AM - SHIELDWYRM HALL. Here she was again, Lex thought to herself. While her previous "visit" had been on less than desirable terms, for the sake of errands, she did her best to put the past behind her. However, with every strange noise and clatter of armor, she couldn't help but feel slightly tense. As long as she kept away from the EKP offices, Lex decided, there was no need to concern herself. After all, the guildhalls were an interesting place to explore (when one could do so on their own terms, of course). Fighters of every variety wandered up and down the hallways, on their way from one manner of business to the next. The training hall must not have been very far, as the longer Lex attempted to find who she was looking for, the louder the sounds of sparring became. Equal parts curious and wary, she continued on. 1:20 PM - THE SNUGGLY DUCKLING. The barrel-chested Kerwonian had her in a bear hug. Lex tried not to squeak in dismay. "Meine leiben, this is wonderful news!" Herbert, or so said the name on the letter, was absolutely ecstatic to have received an invitation, and in the time it took for his eyes to spot the letter in Lex's hand, he was already engulfing her in an embrace. "I must go and write her a response straight away," he declared with the biggest of smiles. Lex nodded, and did her best not to crumple then and there. As the large man bounded out the door, the invitation clasped firmly in his hands, Lex leaned against the counter of the bar and tried to regain her composure. It took longer than she would've preferred, but by the time the bartender came around to ask if she needed anything, she had at least managed to sound calm. "Can I make an order to-go, perhaps?" 3:10 PM - THEATRE DISTRICT. Lex leaned against the street post and watched the group of dancers. She had never seen so many of them congregating at once, and while she supposed it was certainly an informative experience in the arts, with so many people together, it was difficult to find who she was looking for. While they had directed her over to this area, there was little to indicate who the invitation in her hand belonged to. The possibility of having to approach a number of these dancers made her hesitate. Already the day had been more than she'd anticipated, by the afternoon she was beginning to feel slightly...overstimulated. Her gaze wandered from the dancers for a moment, considering other members of the Bards Guild and wondering what sort of adventures Ari had found lately. 5:30 PM - NOBLES DISTRICT. The commute by hovercab to the Nobles District had been nothing but excruciating. Lex readjusted the strap of her satchel and made her way down the street. While she was still determined to complete her errand, by the late afternoon her energy and enthusiasm were beginning to noticeably wane. Even the sights of sprawling lawns and lavish estates, expensive hovercars and well-dressed pedestrians on their afternoon leisure did little to gain her interest. Squinting at the name and address on the envelope in her hand, Lex pursed her lips and tried to determine where she needed to go. When was the last time she had visited this particular district, she wondered? Certainly not for some time, as Lex didn't typically make a habit of sneaking into every lavish party in the area (just the one, in fact, and that had been quite informative enough). In other words, she was lost. 7:45 PM - MONASTERY GATES. Lex sank down to the ground. Leaning against the gates to the monastery, now seemed as good a time as ever to allow herself a moment to catch her breath. Now that the entire stack of invitations had finally been delivered, she was able to rest easier--but she'd missed dinner completely, she realized, and now had very little energy to do more but look miserable and hope none of the Blades were out and about. Not that she wasn't grateful for Father Luscini (and Balder too, she supposed) for helping her out of an unfortunate situation not very long ago, but it was best if she didn't make a spectacle of herself at every opportunity. No, she would only linger outside a moment, and then she would regain enough energy to drag herself to her quarters and rest. Sighing, Lex clutched at her satchel and looked up to the sky, relieved at the sight of a clear evening sky. |
