Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Review

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has somehow wormed its way into America's collective heart, earning mega bucks at the box office. Don't hold it against us that we were a little hesitant at first to check out the movie's video game sibling. We've been burned in the past by movie spin-offs (yeah, Wanted, I'm looking at you) and didn't know if we could take having our fragile little hearts broken again.

However, X-Play's Transformers expert Matt Keil reviewed the game and it wasn't all that bad. From his review:

"If you loved the movie, and for some reason a lot of people did, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is worth a weekend rental. It gets more things right than the first film’s game, but still doesn’t quite rise above the “average” threshold. There’s clearly a good game to be had out of the Transformers property, though, so here’s hoping Activision keeps trying while they have access to the license. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows proved that you don’t need a movie tie-in to make a good licensed game, so maybe next year’s recently announced Transformers title will follow suit."

LEGO: Rock Band

We already know you dig Rock Band, but you might be thinking: Why LEGOs? Here's why: it's for kids. Or, more accurately, for the whole family. LEGO: Rock Band takes the familiar gameplay of the large-scale Rock Band and Rock Band 2, and throws in that unique LEGO magic.

You already know how to play the game -- match the notes coming down the note highway, try to hit them on time and on-point -- so let me discuss that LEGO difference )

As for the hands-on part of the game: I played "The Final Countdown" by Europe on guitar, and it played exactly like Rock Band, although I did find myself a bit distracted by the LEGO antics of the the onscreen avatars.

According to the MTV representative on hand at E3, LEGO Rock Band's family-friendly song list won't be able to be augmented with DLC, and the game will probably feature a mixture of master tracks and covers. It comes out this Fall for the PS3, PS2, Nintendo DS, and Xbox 360.

The Beatles: Rock Band is a music video game being developed by Harmonix Music Systems, published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts. The game will consist of songs by The Beatles, from their first album, Please Please Me, to their last recorded album with record label EMI, Abbey Road, as well as previously unreleased material according to Dhani Harrison, son of the late George Harrison.

The game will be released internationally on 9 September 2009, coinciding with the release of the remastered versions of The Beatles catalogue. The game will be shipped as a bundle with themed instrument controllers and as a standalone game for which all existing Rock Band and compatible music game accessories can be used. The game will incorporate many of the gameplay features of the Rock Band series, however, the game will not be an expansion pack for the Rock Band series, as Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos has stated that this game "...is a new, full game title production built from the ground up."

Metal Gear Solid Coming to Xbox 360

Among the many revelations at Microsoft's E3 2009 press conference was the confirmation that Metal Gear Solid is coming to the 360. Hideo Kojima was on hand at the conference to show off Metal Gear Solid Rising. The new game won't star Solid Snake, instead, Raiden will be the focus of the game. Lightning bolt!

According to Kojima, Rising is a "completely new Metal Gear game and you can look forward to many more.” Other than that, the man had little more to say about the title.

"I can't say more now," Kojima said, "but I can promise you that it will be a completely new experience."

What do you think, gamers? Is this huge news or what?
