Should the potted juniper be more to the left of the hall mirror or to the right? Cinna had tried the one first, then the other, convinced himself he'd had it right initially, and promptly started doubting. The juniper wasn't the only item in the house prompting hesitation.
The wall paneling was too much for such a small space. The lights were all wrong. The low couch in the main living room was too low and the one in the reading nook was too high. Not to mention the food he'd plated: tiny sandwiches on black slate, various nibbles in glass bowls, something called a terrine in a geometric dish.
It was all too much, too extravagant, too Capitol. Thomas wouldn't like it.
Maybe there was still time to fix it? He started toward the kitchen, then remembered the juniper and doubled back. Thankfully, before he could fiddle with it some more, the doorbell chimed.
