Feburary 15 • MIST • Threads, sub-threads, multiple threads, etc, all welcome • tw: mentions of cannon character deaths

It's a hang out night at Mist. The Finer Things Club room is arranged to be comfortable and cozy with chairs arranged for sitting in and talking in small groups.   For snacks, there's a table with left over valentine's candy that was on sale, a few baked goods that Abigail made/decorated with the leftover candy, fruit and chocolate dips made from melted Valentine's chocolates.   Abigail hasn't planned for it to be a music night, but is ready in case people took her literally.  She's still hoping people will interact with those they haven't before.

Abigail stood in the room, trying not to stare at the door. She was hoping many people came, even more that they had understood what she was trying to say. They needed to get to know each other, while they had the chance. The recent loss of Max had reinforced that even more. Another teen girl, that was going back to a bad situation at the least. Another person she'd chatted with, but hadn't really gotten to know and now likely never would. It was important not to have that again.

Abigail sighed as she thought over her choice of words on the network. Maybe she shouldn't try to be so Hannibal-ish. He could pull off the poetic speech with ease. She looked over towards the candy again. Even with that, she'd tried to make it look pretty as he would have wanted. There was a bit of Abigail in there too, candy not charcuterie and simple treats like she might have made with her mother once. She was getting back to being her own self.

She smiled as someone approached and pulled her out of her thoughts. "Hi."

"Hey." Filip smiled around the Tootsie Roll he'd grabbed from the pile of candy on the table. "Look like you're thinking deep thoughts." Abigail did that a lot. Hidden depths, his father would've called it. The most dangerous kind.

Not that any Belter knew what the hell that meant.

Filip moved the taffy from one side of his mouth to the other. "Oh, yeah. Happy weird anniversary." He shifted his weight, wincing a bit. "I didn't bring anything."

"Mmm.  It's a bad habit."   Abigail said in joking way, though there was some truth to it.   She could get caught up in herself and miss out on what was happening around her.  It could be a dangerous habit if she wasn't careful. "Thanks.  You didn't have to."   She told him and raised up on her toes to give him a very gentle hug.  "You brought yourself.  That's the important part."

Filip snorted even as he reciprocated the hug. "Low standards, ke?" He patted Abigail's shoulder. She was so tiny next to him. Tiny, but not fragile. He knew enough about her background to know that was true.

When she let go, he didn't step back. "Any special cookies and shit?" He flashed her a conspiratorial grin. "Can't be on the straight and narrow all the time."

"High standards."   Abigail argued.   "The highest."   A good friend was definitely worth more than a blanket.

She returned his grin with an amused smile.  "No, not here."  She admitted.  "I don't know if that's allowed at MIST.  And you know,  that's not really for a big crowd."   Drinking was okay. There was a trust needed before she took any drugs, given who she'd taken drugs with back home.  "Or strangers."   She added, because she wasn't certain she'd get that many people.

Filip pretended to scrutinize the crowd. "Yeah, you probably right." Getting in trouble didn't faze him, but lectures could be so damn boring. He hooked an arm around Abigail's shoulders. "Drinks, then. I know you can't 'cause underage, blah blah blah... but I can." At least Rowena hadn't said he couldn't. That was good enough.

Abigail smirked and walked with him to the drinks.  "Hey, hey.  My I.D. says I'm 27.  And it's not technically wrong.  It has my actual birth date."   It wasn't her fault that Dunwich moved her to a different year, and she'd had beers with her dad and wine with Hannibal.   Not the best examples for a young woman, but she could handle a drink.

Filip held up his hands. "Oh, if your ID say so..." Like he gave a fuck. What were rules and laws to a Belter, except an excuse to do something stupid?

He helped himself to a bottle of wine and held it up to the light like the label could mean a goddamn thing to his untrained eyes. "Chat-eau Marg-aux... Nice." Probably was, if Abigail had picked it. "Fancy." He shook the bottle by the neck. "And half-empty." Or was it half full? These days, his view swung wildly from one extreme to the other.

"It means it was enjoyed."   Abigail shrugged.  "Half-enjoyed.  French wines are very good."   She said and added.  "You could try some of the strawberry-cheesecake-jelly beans with it.  Cheese and wine is a classic combination.  Or the popcorn.  Margaux pairs well with savoury things."   She spoke as if she was completely serious, but there was a bit of a grin on her face.

Abigail/Ken tw blood as food

2024-02-16 02:39 pm UTC (link)
When the young woman hosting this event had mentioned food recipes with blood so casually, Ken was surprised, but also now curious. Had he found a way to fit in here? In this strange place where people came from everywhere. Perhaps. He had a job now, and at a bookstore of all places. It was everything Kaneki Ken could have ever wanted. And yet, he couldn't ignore the fact that he's a ghoul.

"Hello, Abigail," greeted Ken casually, dressed in his now favored black leather pants and sleeveless tank. It was what he was comfortable wearing. "I'm Kaneki," he mentioned, by means of introduction. Or Ken, really, but he was still used to the Japanese way of things and introducing himself as his surname. It was how most knew him back home, anyway. "I brought some of the bags of chooclate." He held up a few bags, various flavors inside.

Abigail nodded.  She knew who he was, given their conversation.  It had been two months ago, maybe three, but there were very few people in Dunwich who knew the truth about her father.  Their names stuck in her head.  "That's your family name, isn't it?"   She was certain he'd understand why she didn't use Hobbs.   "You follow the Japanese naming convention of family name first, given name second?"   She asked, curiously.

"Let's find the best spot for it."  Abigail suggested and led the way over to the candy table.  Food displays were so important.  Or at least that's how she'd been taught.  "Let's see what you brought.  May I?"   She asked and waited for his permission before taking the bag.  Another thing she'd been taught.  "Let's see.  I think anything with red wrappers would look best here."  She gestured to a spot on the table.

Ken nodded in response. "It is, yes. I don't mind either way, but back home it was very common to call me Kaneki." Or King. Or the Eyepatch ghoul. But he wasn't about to go there now. "Er, it's just normal for us. I know it's not as normal here."

He offered said candy over easily, then nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I think anything red or pink maybe, from my understanding. Although, I feel silly giving you the chocolate. Japan celebrates White Day, in March, which is where single women give candy to men." He let out a nervous laugh.

"It's probably normal in the Japan here."   Abigail suggested.  "Too bad we can't leave Dunwich to find out.  Japan's one of the places on my list that I would have wanted to see.  My guardian lived there once."

"We could put the pink here, and the white-wrappers here and create a little ombre effect."   She shrugged.  "Think of it was giving the candy to everyone, or at least everyone who shows up."    As much as she talked about her club on the network, it never got that much attention.  "If it makes you feel better, I'm not single.  I have a girlfriend."  A bit of happiness and pride crept into her voice with that statement.

"I can always introduce you to Japan here, if nothing else." Ken offered, glad to share his home with someone.

"Oh, well, congratulations, then," Ken added, genuine about it. He knew that to many, it was a challenge. Ken would have been glad for anyone, honestly, but he was no longer the quiet book nerd who has been smitten with Rize the first chance he got. "Giving candy to everyone is a good thing on a day like this. I like that idea."

It was Eddie's anniversary of an extra year too.  He doubted any of the Losers knew it, other than Richie.  And after reading what Richie wrote about his dead friends, he hadn't wanted to burden him with another reminder.  He hadn't wanted to be alone either.   So, he changed out of his work clothes into casual attire and shown up at the hang-out session.  He stood with his back to the wall, people-watching, wondering how many more had been given the gift of extra time.  They should be happy.  Fuck, he knew he should be happy and should take advantage of shit like this.  He could at least try.   He took a deep breath and walked over to the nearest person.  "Hey."

Layla wasn't there to represent herself. But that didn't mean she was untouched by death. The very day before she'd been kidnapped by the Mist Marc had been murdered by Harrow.

So she felt that showing her respects was the least she could do. She knew if any of the people would have been able, had he not been resurrected, they would have come to pay him respects. Or that he'd be standing in this room. They didn't talk about what she'd witnessed. What he'd went through. If anyone would understand it would be the people in this room. Or so she hoped.

"Hi. Eddie, right?" She was cold on the warmest days in Dunwich. So her choice of attire had been a thick over large sweater, that Allison had helped her with, and some sherpa lined leggings.

Eddie nodded his head.  "Yeah."   He said, confirming his name.  What came next, he wondered to himself.  A handshake felt too formal.  It would be more analyst Eddie or boring Eddie.  He was new universe, new Eddie.  That was what his good friend Ani used to tell him before the fog took her back to another fucked up situation.  He missed her, and knew Richie missed her more, but her loss was another clear reminder that he needed to be in the moment and enjoy this second chance.  "And you're Layla, right?"  So far, so good.  The worst he could have done was mistaken her name.

What Eddie might have not known is he greet her in a very acceptable way, considering she was Egyptian. She nodded in return. "Yes. I think I saw you in the bank when I exchanged the currency I had for American." That hadn't been the only time, there had been various parties and hang outs that she'd been to and he had too. But you didn't say hey I'm hyper observant of my surroundings and noticed you without sounding suspicious. Or weird.

"Have you come to be part of the Finer Things club, or...?" The other reason they were here. An exchange of songs, Abigail had called it. Taweret had liked that. And in fact had been the ever present nagging voice that urged her to come.

"Oh yeah, I'm the manager there.  Ah, now.  I used to be a financial planner there.  Depends on when you came in."    Eddie answered, that sounded boring too.  He figured it was better to show an interest in the person he was speaking with.  "The fog brought you here from Egypt.   Were you travelling or living there?"  He asked.

"I've thought about joining the club.  I've been pushing myself to try new things.  But then I worry that some of the things might be too new."   Eddie admitted and shook his head.  "So no, I just thought it'd be good to come tonight for the meeting people thing."

"It was in middle of July, while we were getting the free tickets to the creepy carnival. If I had known then what I know now I would have come to see you to help me do some financial planning." That was why it stuck in her mind, because her first experience with an American carnival hadn't been a nice one. Not that she had expected it to be. Layla smiled at him, surprised that bit had been memorable enough to stick in his mind. "Actually neither, my husband and I were there to try and stop a zealot from releasing the Egyptian goddess Ammit into the world. Where were you brought here from?"

She nodded slightly. "Well it's a good way to dip your toes in at least, find out if it's a good fit or not. Or if it's triggering in anyway. That's kind of why I'm here, and to see if it's something I should try to encourage Marc to come to." Though she was sure Steven would love it, she wasn't so sure Marc or Jake would. Though her husband's Spanish alter might.

"Oh! I was at your house a few weeks ago, to steal marshmallows and perv on Bill Murray. For Richie's Groundhog day party."

"Ugh, the swan boats at that carnival really messed with me.  Well, it's good that you're thinking ahead.  You still can come in now and I can help.  Or one of my employees.  But not Toomey.  The guy's a total asshole and the board won't let me fire him."    Eddie could have continued on about the massive levels of dickishness found in Toomey and given a few choice examples.   But that would be going down the negative path.  Complaining just came so easy to him.   "I came here from a small town called Derry where I was reuniting with my friends to fight a killer clown."   She'd told him his weird shit, he could be open about his own.  "But I was living in New York, in Manhattan."

Eddie glanced over at Abigail and back to Layla.  "The girl, er woman, that runs it, can be a little odd, a bit of a dark vibe like she's been through some shit."   It wasn't always obvious, except maybe to someone else that had been through darkness. "But she seems nice enough.  I think most of the shit they talk about is like bath bombs and stuff.  You know, the simple shit that people from other worlds might not know."   There had been that whole Richie bath-bomb misunderstanding with Lexa, but he couldn't remember if that was before or after July and fuck that'd be hard to explain.  "So,um, anyway, I don't think it'd be anything triggering."  He paused and asked.  "Is Marc someone you met here or someone from home?"

"Steal?  Fuck, take as many of those sugar-rocks as you want.  I think we ended up with more."  Eddie smirked.  "Maybe I should apologise for him trying to poison you with them."

"The Tunnel of Love was... Something I don't ever want to repeat." Her experience hadn't been horrific like Lafayette's had been, but it hadn't exactly been nice. The memory of it was shaken away. "I think I might come straight to you for my financial planning. And if you ever want to plant something on Toomey that will give the board no other choice but to fire him." Layla waggled her eyebrows invitingly, though she wasn't entirely sure she could force any locals to do anything. "I've always known clown's weren't any good." She didn't exactly have a fear, just a strong dislike. "I've been to New York, though, it's... Nice?" Though she hadn't exactly seen the nice bits.

Layla followed his gaze to Abigail. She was fairly sure that everyone that had been brought to Dunwich had experienced something dark. That maybe that was something that they all had in common. "It's good for people from other cultures too." Not just for the bathbombs, she was sure there were other things that she didn't know about American Culture that Marc didn't think to share. "Ah, well, he's on the spectrum. He's high functioning, but there are still things that could be too much. He might be okay though." She knew a lot of his triggers, and how to calm him. "Marc is my husband. I've known him for ten years." Though there were things she didn't know about him.

She chuckled softly. "Hey I was eating them willingly. Marshmallows are my vice. It doesn't matter if they're hard and crunchy, or soft and pillowy, store bought or gourmet." Though she was easy. A bag of big fluffy marshmallows and she was in heaven.

"I couldn't stop wanting to repeat it." Eddie admitted. He'd been practically addicted to them, taking time away from his friends and Mercy that he could never get back. He nodded. "You can make an appointment for any time during office hours." He smirked and lowered his voice, in case others were listening in. "Yeah, like what kind of shit?" His mind went to drugs first, then a joke popped into his mind about the director of the board's spouse's underwear. He heard it in Richie's voice of course. "Yeah, they suck. Even the non-evil alien clown are creepy as fuck. Faces all painted up like they're hiding shit." He smiled. "The right parts of it are nice. The museums, the tea houses, pretty places, beautiful parks, broadway shows, shops and markets, parades that don't have lobsters." That last one was a joke. He didn't think to mention the nightlife or other more exciting aspects. He liked the calm.

"People here are understanding of differences, in my experience. Most are accepting of my phobias and other..quirks." Eddie said struggling to find the right words. He didn't consider himself to be neurodivergent. But he sometimes struggled socially, unable to stop himself obsessing on certain topics, and with his senses with the need for things to feel clean and 'right'. "And you're both here? Congratulations." It'd be a nightmare for him if Myra showed up, but he could understand wanting an actual good marriage to continue. Most people had been pulled away from their families.

Eddie had to keep himself from shuddering. All that corn syrup and sugar. And gelatin! Did she know what gelatin was made of? "What about marshmallow flavoured protein bars? Those can be store bought. And sugar free." He suggested.

"Okay, if it's not too nosey, what did you see that made you keep going back?" She'd been tempted to go back once more with Marc, but she'd rejected that idea shortly after he got brought to Dunwich. She made a mental note to stop by or call to make an appointment. They needed a flat, Steven was running out of room for his books. "Well, it could be something as simple as planting 'stolen' cash on him. Not enough to get him arrested but enough to piss off the board. But if that's too much I could have some photos doctored to make it look like he's been a peeping-tom on a few of the spouses of board members." She didn't want to do anything to get wives or husbands in trouble, but just enough to maybe make them uncomfortable. "Oh, my god yes. I'm not afraid of them or anything but most of that makeup is so thick that they could hide anything under it." Like identifiable scars and marks, and if they hid those what else were they hiding? Layla snorted softly at the jab about lobster parades. "I haven't been able to visit any of the tea houses or any of the live parades, but I've seen a lot of the markets, museums and stuff based around the Revolution."

"It's not really them that I worry about." She glanced around a little and lowered her voice a lot, because she didn't know if anyone else knew, not that they were hiding it, just not announcing it on billboards. Eddie was likeable, and easy to talk to. "He also has DID. He has one alter-identity that's louder than the other, Steven. He's Marc's polar opposite, bubbly and honest, and he has an English accent. He would love the Finer Things club." Maybe it could be something they did together. Layla smiled again, nodding, at the congrats. "Thanks. Though it worries me, with the way people disappear. Am I going to wake up and he's suddenly gone?" It was something that plagued her mind often.

"I've never tried them, but they would be handy to carry." Especially on adventures. "I made it sound like I eat them all the time, don't I? Promise they're usually only a once in a while treat. I mostly eat vegan or vegetarian meals. I've ate more here than I've eaten in since I graduated from University."

Eddie and Layla tw: mental health - dissociative disorders
[info]germhater

"I saw a happy future."   Eddie answered.  One that he knew could never exist, which had made him want to lose himself in that vision forever.  He gave an amused smile, slightly surprised that their minds had gone to a similar place.  "I'll keep that in mind."   He nodded.  "Exactly.  They could be thinking anything, all with a creepy-ass painted on smile."  He made a serious face for a moment.  "Is that you weren't able to see the tea houses? Or that they didn't let you in because you're part of some reenactment group that wants to take all the tea to Boston and dump it in the harbour?"   He dead-panned and then smiled.  "But seriously, are you a history buff?"  The revolution wasn't what he'd seen most tourists take an interest in.  The Statue of Liberty, central park, maybe the MET tended to get the most crowds in his experience.

Eddie was about to ask if it was the locals that worried her.   They were similar to the small-town-small-minded people of Derry than the mistakes and he could see the reasons to be concerned.  Then she continued on with her husband's diagnosis.   Shit.  That was a rough one.   Therapy, possibly medications might help, but it wasn't curable and certainly wasn't one where he could list off treatment options.  "Then he should go."   He said softly.  "Life's too short to miss out on shit you'd love."  He was coming around to that conclusion for himself as well, taking small steps that were huge for him.  He might even try singing at a Bev-run karaoke night. He frowned deeply, another situation with no easier answers.  "I worry about the same thing.  I don't have a spouse here.  My friends though, they're everything.  I lost them for over twenty damn years and I can't stand the thought of losing them again.

"They are, especially if you have to miss a meal because of unexpected Dunwich shit!"  Eddie exclaimed.  He always had to be prepared.  "I make my own bars, with oats, healthy flour like quinoa flour or flaxseed flour or soy flour, wheat germ, almonds, a little bit of honey..but uh, those aren't really protein bars and don't taste like marshmallow, and I should probably stop talking."  He paused.  "Yeah?  Have you found any good spots in Dunwich for vegetarian meals?  I'm not one, but I don't need meat with every meal."

Layla couldn't help herself, she patted his shoulder lightly. "I saw something that couldn't have happened." Seeing her father at her wedding while happy, only reminded her that it hadn't happened. "Just let me know." Anything to make his life easier, because she didn't doubt he was doing the same where he could. "And they can hide in plane sight because so many people have them marked as 'innocent' or benign." How many of them were murderers? The tea was a better subject. She actually laughed when he mentioned tea in the Harbor. "I'll be honest, I didn't know the teahouses existed there." she didn't exactly equate teahouses with New York, like she did Hong Kong. "I'm actually a... Well a friend of mine calls me a thief, but I'm not, because you can't steal things that are already stolen. Artifacts and documents find their way onto the black market, and I find a way to get them off of he black market. The Daughters of the Revolution have had be chasing down all the leads I can on Alexander Hamilton's missing letters, something like that is a long game, but something that pays the bills. My passion is recovering Egyptian artifacts." Which wasn't exactly something she could do in Dunwich.

She didn't know what she expected, but it wasn't that. It seemed like he accepted Steven the way she had, and that delighted her. Most of the world, hers included, would have wanted to get rid of him and Jake "It is, it can be snuffed out when you least expect it." She knew that far too well, she didn't expect her line of work to be safe. But she hadn't predicted she'd see her husband murdered in front of her either. "I thought being estranged from Marc for a few months was rough, I can't imagine twenty years. The Error messages must put your stomach in knots. I mean sure you live with them, but you don't all live in the same room."

"I didn't think about that, but you're right. I was picturing much more sandy conditions." He reminded her of Steven a little. Though he did talk faster, but the way he got passionate about things and explained. She patted his shoulder again. "You're good. You and Steven would get along well I think." Layla took a breath. "Well, no, I cook, and most Egyptian meals are vegetarian. I'm not one either, neither is Marc, but Steven is vegan."

"What I saw can't happen."   Eddie said softly.  As much as he wanted that future, he couldn't risk anything changing in Derry.  The clown had to die and his friends had to live.  "It was evil, the way those tunnels fucked with everyone."    He nodded.  "They get access to kids too."   His voice was still soft, too close to opening up too much.  "The tea houses don't get as many visitors as other places."   He said, returning to a more normal volume.  "They should though.  There was this one place in Chinatown, it had a fuckton of caffeine-free tea options, and vegan, gluten-free sweet rice dumplings."  He cleared his throat; he was trying not to focus on those details as much.  "They had the regular teas and things too."   He considered what she'd said.  It was possible to steal what was stolen to sell it yourself, but that didn't sound like what she was doing.  "Sounds similar to what we called asset tracking and recovery in insurance.  Certainly not theft."  He said, stopping himself before calling her friend an asshole.  For all he knew, she and her friend joked in the way he did with his friends.  "Did you check museums?  They tend to have a lot of stolen artifacts. They're practically crime scenes."   He paused.  "Ah, sorry that was an attempt at a history joke.  I'm a bit inappropriate at times."   All the time really, if he was comfortable.  "Sorry if you worked with museums."

"Yeah, one day you're not expecting anything to change and then you get a phone call that changes everything."  Eddie said.  He knew it might sound as if he'd gotten a phone call about a lost loved one, but the truth was so much harder to explain.   "It was rough, but we didn't know why.   Our memories had been fucked with.  We, or at least I knew some big shit was missing from my life.  I just never knew what it was."   He nodded.  "They do.  Especially when I'm at work, or just out."  It was a hard balance, he and his friends simply living their lives and wanting to check on them all the time.

"I should meet him then."   Eddie suggested.  "We could share a meal.  I've been trying to eat new foods and I don't think I've had Egyptian food.  Not that I'm saying that you should cook for me.  We can find a place in town or if they don't have one, use uber eats."   Aw, shit he felt awkward, time for a change in topic.  "How does that diet work with them sharing a body?"  He asked, hoping it wasn't too personal.

"Was it different every time you went in?" Layla could not disagree that the tunnel of love was an evil construct. "I wonder to what end. Has a reason ever presented itself with these things?" It was mostly a rhetorical question, mostly, she'd never seen reason for Dunwich to do these things to them, but maybe she just hadn't seen something he had. She had been paying attention to him before his voice got soft, but she looked at him straight on then. "They do, and most of them really shouldn't." Most of them shouldn't even be allowed miles of a child. But she wouldn't ask, he was trying really hard not to delve into a memory, and she didn't want to push him into it. "Now if you were to tell me they had Hibiscus tea on the ready I'd see about making New York our new base of operations." Though that might be too close to Marc's parents for him to be comfortable. "Largo just doesn't approve of what I do, she thinks it will get me killed, considering I have to slip into Cairo as quietly as I can manage, she's not wrong. I was supposed to be an archeologist like my Father." But that had gotten him killed. She snorted softly at his joke. "You kid but you're not wrong. I'd gone into my fair share of museums when I was younger, and done some artifact rescue. But I do work with them now, just the ones that are mostly non-profit, and properly display artifacts. The ones that are glorified grave robbers find themselves with some perfect if not near perfect replicas." If she got started she could easily go on for hours. "Don't worry about being inappropriate, just be yourself."

"Or a knock on the door." It was her turn for her voice to go soft. That had been how she met Marc and learned about her father's death in one beat of a fist. "And it definitely wasn't a trauma response?" She knew the brain was tricky around traumatic memories. After all that was why Marc shared his body with two other men. "How bad do you just want to ease one of those tracking tags in stuff they carry to work?" Or school. She could track Marc and Steven if they carried their phone.

"I'd be happy to cook for you and him. I'm not sure there is a place in town that does Egyptian food." Layla set, what she hoped was, a comforting hand on his arm. "I'm not really sure, if Marc is in a good mood and Steven hasn't pissed him off he'll lean more toward a vegetarian choice. If he's pissed off at Steven he goes full meat and potatoes."

Eddie shook his head.  "No.  It was always the same."   The same high, feeling like it might be possible, then the crash went he got off the ride and the desperate need to go back onto the ride and escape into the fantasy again.  "And no, no reason for the bad or good shit."   He had Richie, Stan, Ben, Bev, so why not Bill and Mike?  It was always a wonder in the back of his mind, wishing Dunwich would hurry the hell up and reunite all seven Losers.  He nodded and added nothing about clowns.  He smiled at the mention of hibiscus.  "They did.  They had hibiscus tea and a berry-hibiscus tea with aiyu."   He missed it a little.  "Hey, worrying is a sign of a good friend."   He did it constantly.  He smirked.  "I'll try to keep it down a little.  I can get swear-y."   And downright raunchy with his sense of humour, though he tended to save that for the Losers and others he knew wouldn't be upset by it.

He shook his head.  "No, it was the clown-monster.  When we left our hometown, we all started losing our memories."  Except for Mike since he never left.  It  must have been just as bad, being the only one who knew what he had lost.  "Or chip them like pets?"   He joked.  "I'll probably just stick to the phone location sharing."   That helped ease his worries slightly.  It made him feel safer too, knowing they'd find each other if more bad shit happened.

Eddie gave her a smile when she touched his arm.  "Fuck, that sounds like what would happen if I shared a body with Richie...Well, actually not."   As much as they teased, Richie understood the reasons behind his quirks.  "But he'd find some way to let me know he was pissed off."

In that moment any bit of fear of missing out that she'd had about not going back to the Love Tunnel vanished. The thought of seeing what she'd seen over and over... She closed her eyes and took a deep breath and slowly released it. "What saw was my wedding day, except my father had been there. My wedding day wouldn't have happened if he had been alive, because I met Marc because my father had been killed. I can't..." Her eyes opened again and she looked at Eddie. "Seeing it with him there once was almost too much." And the fact that Dunwich had put them both through that for no reason, besides the torture of it, it urged a little growl to rumble in her throat. The talk about Hibiscus tea drew her out of her plots of revenge, and quiet rage. "Do you think Abigail made any Hibiscus tea?" She stood a little straighter and glanced over at the snack table. She doubted there would be aiyu, but maybe there was honey. "I know, she worries because, besides Marc, I have no one to worry about me." She grinned and looked back at him. "Don't worry about being swear-y either. I live in London, and if I didn't hear 'fuck' at least ten times between my flat and the bus stop, I knew it was going to be an off day."

That was just strange. "You would think it would have wanted you to remember as much as possible so maybe talking about it would draw more people to the town. But instead it's like it was protecting itself." He hadn't come out and said what the Clown had done but two and two hadn't equaled good in her mind, from things he had said. "I was thinking it, but you said it." She teased. "Me too, though I know how to track him without location sharing." With Taweret it was even easier than it was with the phones.

"Marc and Steven talk to each other. When they do I only hear one side of it, of course, but Marc usually gets mad at Steven over something he had said that Marc didn't want him to say." Layla smiled remembering the first time Steven had kissed her. "He's not jealous anymore, but when I first met Steven, I think he was pretty jealous. I'm almost positive that he pushed Steven into a tomb, after I had belayed down into it, after Steven kissed me."

Meggan dressed up for this one. Or, well, she at least put more of an effort in. She did her make-up, she brushed her hair out, shifting maybe just a little so that it looked nicer. She found herself a new sweater to wear at MIST, and made her way over to the club.

Honestly, she had no idea what to expect. Meggan was not a party type of person, but the environment at the valentine's thing was so nice she thought maybe this would be the same. It was easy to pick around at the food table and find a thing or two she could eat, feeling for what she could eat or not. It was difficult to tell with food, but she could pick it up sometimes. There were some foods she just knew to be vegan, too.

She did attempt to walk up to people a few times, but she found herself suddenly much more shy than she was typically. Maybe it was because someone else was feeling shy or anxious, or perhaps it was the amount of emotions around her. She stood near the wall, watching.

It looked like this was as close as she would get to going home this year. Even the journey had been easier for the last century, it had never been an easy thing emotionally. But it kept her accountable, for things that was much more precious than most would ever realize. Except for the people in the room.

Bryn went for what had formed a tradition to her. She was dressed as closely as she could in the clothing of that night. It wasn't too difficult since she'd arrived in Dunwich in her armor, and boots. She had to substitute the trousers and chemise. The decorative patch of leather that covered the four holes in the left side of her armor was removed. Her face clean of any makeup, and hair braided in loose carefree plaits, more decorative than it had been for battle purposes. She looked a live, and youthful, rather than pale and vampiric.

Dunwich hadn't extended her life, but maybe it saved her from the downward spiral she had been stuck in.

She took in all the faces in the room. One shook her to her core. But she did her best to hide it.

Jaskier had thought about skipping out of this party. There had been enough that he'd attended this week. And the loss of Max was weighing heavily on his mood and want to do anything. But. He liked Abigail. So he forced himself to attend. His clothes cleaned and pressed, but not beyond what he normally wore. which also happened to be the same style he wore in his world.

He did bring his lute, because he had said he would. But it sat in its leather bound case resting against the chair he occupied. He accused others of brooding, but maybe that label could be stuck on him.
