February 8th / Early afternoon
Gar and Meggan
"What could be said about two shifters meeting and trying to one up the other?"
Outside Pickman | PG13 | ⚠ TBD

Cabin fever was definitely something that affected Gar more than he thought it would. The more time that he was spending inside and not shifting was an ever-growing itch that needed to be scratched at some point. And he was to that point where it was insufferable. He gave a lingering glance to the door that his boyfriend would be on the other side of, twisted up in the blankets of their bed, taking a nap as he claimed he needed after school.

Gar grinned at that. Their's. A word he enjoyed too. But the call of outside was too strong to ignore. With one more glance to the wood barrier, he released an animalistic whimper. Reaching for a pen and pad of paper that was left atop the coffee table, Gar scrawled a small note letting Will know that he had to step outside for shifting purposes.

Slipping from the apartment, Gar slid the gauntlet over his wrist before shifting into the same large green Maine coon that Enid had rescued and ran down the hall, to the steps and out the opened front door. He was tunnel-visioned and ignored any that passed him. Even though the grass was a dank brown instead of it's normal vivid green, the Maine coon purred and rolled onto the dirt and lawn. Then it stretched languidly and was spurned forward as it chased after a rabbit.

Mid pounce, the maine coone somersaulted and as it uncurled, in its place was a hare, hopping after it's kin despite the clear distinction that the hare was of a green hue.

The daytime was more difficult for Meggan. When everyone was out and about, there were more emotions to deal with. It was noisy in the day. She didn't want to spend the whole day cooped up in her room, either, even if it was the calmest place she could be. Still, she had a hard time going to find food and things you could buy, because she couldn't read the menus, and she wasn't much of a cook herself. She couldn't read the instructions for most things. So, it had been a rather difficult morning and she trudged back to Pickman as afternoon started to roll around.

She didn't make it far though. She'd barely been to the door when she saw a maine coon bounding out. A green one, which was odd. She could also tell there was something distinctly not feline about the way it felt, and she turned to watch it as it bounded after a rabbit - promptly shifting into one alongside the other rabbit as it did so.

Well, now that looked like fun and a good way to cheer herself up after the rough morning.

So, without much thought to it, Meggan turned and bounced down the stairs, becoming a large white rabbit as she did so, with very long floppy ears that she should have tripped over as she bounded after them. But rabbits didn't trip over their own ears and she had all the same skills as a rabbit in this form, so she was effortless and fast as she hopped over to the green rabbit.

The green hare that was Gar, lifted its head to the air, sensing the presence of another animal. The rabbit hopped around to spot an all white rabbit, it's ears extra floppy as it came bustling toward him at a great speed that was surprising to him. Closer and closer it approached and would've ran into him if he had not hopped into the air to avoid the collision. When the hind legs landed on the ground, the rabbit's head tilted as if he were inspecting the new creature. He was clearly not afraid as the rabbit hadn't started thumping or growling at the arrival but a soft cluck emitted from the small bunny, an indication that he was in a playful mood.

I know you, don't I? The sound of Gar's voice was a telepathic message that was sent to the white rabbit clearly recognizing the small nuances of another shifter, Meggan?

"Yeah, that's me!" Meggan said, her voice coming out a little awkwardly from the rabbit - slightly higher pitched than usual. It was difficult to get her voice completely right when she was just trying to shift some of herself, rather than all of herself.

She flopped around, bouncing circles around Gar. "And you are?" She wasn't quite sure who it was, in this form, and didn't recognize the voice. Meggan shifted mid-jump, ending up a wolf this time, still trying out the beautiful wolf form she'd turned into when she ran into Mark. She rolled onto her back, paws up in the air. "Can you shift into any animal?"

Seeing the other shift into a white wolf had the rabbit chattered happily knowing that there was another shifter at Pickman now. With its hind legs, the rabbit propelled itself into the air, to give it more air to shift into a wolf himself. This one however still kept that green hue to its fur.

"Gar." Was sent to once more telepathically to Meggan. "I can shift into anything that has DNA.." The green wolf let out a whoop, nudging her with its snout and then he let his paws strike out at the ones up in the air. "I feel like we've already his discussion before."

Gar's wolf form sat back onto its hind legs, head tilted to the other canine that was lying on the ground. "I mostly shift into a tiger as they're my favorite animal. Do you a preferred animal that you like to shift into?"

Once he reminded her, she remembered the conversation and yipped out a little excited bark, bouncing up and down. "Oh yeah, I remember!" She exclaimed, immediately dropping her head down almost on her front paws in a playful gesture.

They'd talked all about it on the network! When he mentioned shifting into the tiger, she thought about what her favorite might be but... well, she loved them all.

"I love flying, so I like being a bird sometimes but, I was just a dragon the other day and that was really fun!" Although now that she'd seen the werewolves like this, she was sort of becoming partial to the wolf form. It felt powerful, and she loved to run through the trees.

"Show me your tiger!"

"Oh yeah! When all of us were trying to get the others out of that Catbus." Gar thought to her. "That was pretty damn kick-ass." Seeing the dragon in the air, had stunned him into to silence that he had debated on mimicking her dragon. He wasn't sure if it was possible but he was curious if he could. At some point he definitely wanted to try to see if he could or not.

The green wolf transformed, it's body elongating even more to accommodate the bone structure of a tiger. It's muzzle stretching slightly, whiskers sprouting from his cheeks and dark black stripes decorated his spine as the tiger appeared in front of Meggan. A soft chuff emitted from the large feline.

'Ta-da' He flourished as he reached over to bat at Meggan's wolf form.

"It's a fun form, I think!" She could take on anything, really, and while there might have been another form that would have been better suited for the situation, she was confident as a dragon. It was something she'd done before and it was one of the largest creatures she had ever turned into.

Apart from the monster-thing she'd become when she first arrived in Dunwich, which had been substantially larger at first. She'd ended up becoming smaller and smaller as she was in Duwnich and eventually found Jim.

"Wow!" She replied, watching his shift into the big tiger, which now batted at her smaller wolf form. She yipped and dodged, and as she rolled she turned herself into a dragon, albeit this one was much different than the other one. She looked a bit like toothless. "What's the biggest animal you've ever been?"

"The biggest? Hmm, good question." He paused to think for the moment. "Probably when I shifted to the pterodactyl." He eyed the smaller dragon form in front of her, circling the ancient black dragon. And taking that moment to shift, not completely looking exactly like the dragon she took the shape of, but the dragon form that he took on was just a bit shorter than hers.

"This is a first for me. Didn't think it was possible before, but damn. It feels good."

"Wanna race?"

She flickered, shifting into a pterodactyl briefly - small, though, just to try it out - before she was back to being the silly looking toothless dragon she had seen on the television. It was like a cat. She liked it.

"Nice!" She appreciated his dragon form too, flapping her wings excitedly.

"Oooh a race??? Yeah, like, a flying race? Let's do it!"

With a small pause, he shifted to make the wings grow wider to make up for the additional body weight of the dragon's torso so that he kick off the ground and do an aerial spin around Meggan's dragon form, ever so slightly to egg her on.

"You're on." And within moments, he tucked the reptilian's legs under and sped off for her to catch up with him.

"That's not fair!" She called out, using her legs to bound upwards before flapping her wings, and up she went. She was very fast, though he had a head start, so she was still a little bit behind him.

She could go smaller, maybe be more aerodynamic - but she didn't really care much about winning, even if she was relishing in his competitive spirit. It was just barely second to the joy of feeling the wind on her face as they flew.

Laughter trilled off of him as his dragon form turned to face her to see that she was gaining momentum and drawing closer to him. Good naturedly Gar let his form slow before he did a spiral around her shifted form. He didn't think it was a true race, as he was just enjoying the face that there was another shifter present.

Mid-air, while he was spiraling, his wings transformed from that of a dragon to that of a great blue, or in this case green, heron with it's wing span stretching out to a gargantuan size a full grown adult male that would've stood at 6'6". It's long beak piercing through the air as he taunted and teased her.

"What else you got?" He sent to her.

She blew out a little bit of fire, which came out like a ring and she laughed, ducking out of the way of it. When he turned into a bird she did as well, turning into the largest bird she'd ever seen - they were on a trip, her and Brian, and she'd seen the Albatross, a Wandering Albatross, in the sky.

Twelve-foot wingspan, not the prettiest bird but she could change the coloring on it, so she did - becoming a blue-and-pink-and-purple version, almost like a sunset. She let out a high-pitched screech of a bird call, which was more her voice than factually accurate, and flapped her wings so hard the trees beneath them actually shook a little.

"I got anything you got! I haven't found something or someone I can't shift into yet."

He admired the change that she administered to her next shift. He took in the sunset colored Albatross with a exuberant nod from heron. Unlike her, all his shifted forms would always take on the green coloring, similar to the tips of hair when he was back to his human form. It also could've been the fact that his favorite color since childhood was green.

Green made him think of the jungles that his parents took him to on their expeditions. Perhaps that was why he stayed true to his favorite. It always made him think of his parents when he shifted. And he took that little incentive toward his next transformation. Wings furled around its slender body and as his DNA shifted and realigned, in the avians place was the prehistoric dinosaur of a tyrannosaurs rex, the one his mother had been trying to excavate when they travelled the states on the west coast but had no avail.

So the 40 foot tall beast towered over Meggan, "Ever see a dinosaur?" He sent to her, a grin hiding behind his words.

Meggan could match him if she wanted to, but what was the fun in that? Instead, she became some weird hellish monster - the same one, in fact, she'd become when she first showed up in Dunwich - some creature seen and felt inside the mist that her form naturally took as soon as she landed in Dunwich. For protection, to fit in. Based on how it felt, she thought it was a land full of monsters. She could go unnoticed.

Of course, that wasn't the truth but now she had this form to play with, and it was easily 50 feet tall. It was awkward, though, and she had to change the landscape around them a little - she crushed a bench and when she moved her foot the bench reformed itself. Finally she dropped down to size and became herself again, laughing.

"That one's too awkward to walk around in."

The enormous tyrannosaurus rex watched as she shifted to a creature native to the hellscape that was Dunwich, and seeing it stirred something inside of him. Calling out to attack? Or was it possibly teasing him with the possibility that he too could transform into such a beast. He didn't take that risk though. There wasn't a need for two fifty foot monstrosities roaming around Pickman. When she devolved back into her human skin, Gar too took that as his cue to do the same.

The change was quick, practically instantaneous. A T-Rex one minute and then, just plain Gar, standing just a little away from her.

"That last one though? Gotta admit though I think something about that one kind of wanted me to change into its brethren." He voiced. "Don't know why though."

"It's a weird creature. It might have been me, wanting you to change with me but I don't think I was projecting my emotions that time." Meggan couldn't be sure, though. She didn't always pay attention to that, and especially while rapidly changing it would be easy to have projected her emotions out without realizing it.

Still, she thought it was more likely something to do with that particular creature than with herself. She had felt similarly when she was coming into Dunwich - like, the monster she'd heard in the mist called to her. Which is perhaps why it was the first thing she turned into when she was through the mist and truly in Dunwich.

Fortunately for her, she'd encountered someone who seemed to realize she was more than what she looked like. "I felt it my first day here, actually in the mist as I was coming through."

"Nah, I don't think it was you projecting. I think it was the beast itself trying to get my attention. And well, it worked a little bit. I almost gave in to temptation of shifting into one as well. I've never felt that before." He rolled his shoulders, shaking the desire once more off him.

"Probably has something to do with just being here in Dunwich" He might try something at a later time when he knew that he wouldn't threaten the other residents of Pickman with the monstrosity, nodding his head at her words.

"I felt something akin to that when I came here but I managed to shift ignore it and shift into the Maine Coon that you saw earlier."

"I wasn't sure what this place was. I was frightened, and when I'm scared I tend to shift - I thought if I was the monster I'd blend in." Then instead of facing any other monsters, she'd wound up walking into Jim Kirk.

Who was certainly not a monster and Meggan had had a very difficult time finding her way into her usual appearance after that. It had all been so strange.

"I can shift on my own now, if I try, but I used to only be able to shift based on the emotions around me. Like I can hold onto an emotion now and shift, but if... if you were afraid of me, I'd become monstrous. And then the more afraid, the more monstrous I would be."

It wasn't until someone told her she was beautiful for the first time that she'd been able to be anything other than the were-creature she'd lived as for twenty years. "Could you always shift, then? Since you were a baby or did it happen later? Were you born like this?"

"I don't blame you. Coming to a new place, anyone would be scared. And with your emotions running high, that makes sense that you would shift to something that would be relatively something that was already present in the world. The fact that your body knew that, is an impressive feat in itself." He acknowledged her emotions, and gave her a smile. "And hey, you're not scared now. You can control it. That's even better." And it'd be something that he'd try to remember.

"I-ah, no. I wasn't always able to. My parents and I - we went to the Congo. All of us contracted the Sakutia plague. I was the only survivor. Someone managed to save me by pumping me with more of a drug that guess saved me but in the process it had altered my DNA, and-" he pointed to his green hair. "this is a side effect. By all means, I probably should be all green but it managed to consolidate up there." Dredging up the history of what happened to his parents and himself wasn't as hard to do anymore. It made him long for them though.

"It's not really a feat for my body, it's a natural adaptation for my mutation." She frowned a little, it being natural is what made it so difficult to work with and understand as she was growing up. "Like, I grew fur as an infant because it was cold." Which is exactly what started her sad life. "I can control it better now, though, a lot better."

And getting better all the time. She listened as how - just like for her, he could shift because his DNA had been altered. Only he wasn't born with the altered DNA, it happened after a sickness, and the death of his parents. "I'm sorry about your family." Meggan knew what it was like to lose people, though not quite like that. Her parents had... mostly just abandoned her. It was a different sort of hurt, but through people around her she had felt grief. It was awful.

"The green hair looks nice, though. Did you ever meet my friend Kurt? They were all blue."

"Control comes with time and practice." The image of a furred infant was stirred to life by her words. The way she told it seemed as if she had carried the same weight that he did. He went to place a hand on her shoulder as if he could help take away some of the sadness that the girl had emitted.

"Thank you, it's been a while but I try to think of the good instead of how they went." Gar breathed out and gave her a comforting smile. "Heh, yeah actually I did. I met them a little after Christmas. They had an egg that hatched a creature that kind of looked like them but much more smaller." Gar turned toward her, "They mentioned you as well. You two must have been close. I'm sorry that they're not here anymore."

"It does, especially once you know what you're doing." That had been part of the problem for Meggan. She had no idea she could control her abilities, or what exactly she was to begin with. Trying to control a shift or how she was feeling had been near impossible without the knowledge she'd gained from meeting Brian, Alison, Betsy, and everyone else.

She appreciated the hand on her shoulder and she smiled at him, reaching up to pat his hand while it was on her shoulder. "They hatched an egg? That's - different." But sounded like Kurt, too, and she laughed. "We were very close, yes. They knew me longer in their timeline, because this Kurt here was older than the one I remember, but we were close almost instantly."

"Well, if you ever want to practice some more with your shifting, I can help to the best of my ability. We can have our own little practice sessions if you'd like. Test our own limits?" He offered, hand still on her shoulder.

And then he let out a guffaw at her next words. "I mean they weren't the one to lay the thing. It was one of those surprise Christmas things that showed up but they were very excited about it." He didn't get the chance to really get close with them but he could tell that they would've gotten along swimmingly.
