Game Now Open! First Plot Arc! "Welcome to Dunwich" (Feb 15 - 28)
WHAT IS A PLOT ARC? AN INTRODUCTION
Each month the mod team will post a game wide event, called a "plot arc". Each event may last anywhere from one to three weeks, depending on what's going on. Since this is our very first one and our first major/largest batch of new characters to arrive, this first plot arc is going to be more of a basic introduction to the world.
In the future, new plot arcs will be posted the first week of the new month with a little bit of time in between to read over, think about what you'd like to do, and volunteer for any special roles in the plot. ♥WELCOME TO DUNWICH
The weatherman called for fog. What an understatement. You should have been here yesterday, the locals say. Why it was so bad, they even cancelled school over the fog. Did you ever get a "fog day" growing up? But the busses didn't have enough visibility to drive safely, so the call was made. At least the children were delighted.
Visibility is still bad now, but there are more vehicles on the street than there were before. Everyone is taking it slowly and easily. That must be why no one seemed to notice you literally appearing from nowhere, right? It was just the unrelenting mist. It's not like anyone can actually see a tear in the fabric of the multiverse. Probably nothing to be concerned about, right?
Your phone works on the local networks. If your character doesn't have a phone, a local will hand you one. "Here, I think you dropped this." They'll insist it must be your phone even if you don't yet know how to use one. One way or another you stumble upon an unusual message forum, a network if you will, filled with the confused messages of other Outlanders. None of the locals have found this network.
Is anything about this place not a little off? No? Hey, at least you're not alone and you can find a place to stay at some random spot called The Pickman House.
Someone smart is going to figure this out and you'll all get to go home any day now? Right? ...Anyone? At what point do you start to suspect you might be here a while?VOLUNTEER PROMPTS
Note: unless the prompt is unlimited, please only take one volunteer prompt per player for the initial three days of this post. Starting February 18 you may pick up additional unclaimed volunteer slots.π OH, YOU MUST BE THE NEW... π It's probably just a case of mistaken identity, but you've been clocked as the new hire for an open job position. It was literally just handed to you and now they expect you to show up to work. Your character can blow the offer off and remain unemployed, or accept for one AC Reward.UNLIMITED; Specify the job in the comments below. Submit an AC request if your character accepts the job. For hilarity's sake they can always turn it down and then regret that choice later.
π I'M GUNNA BLOW THIS POPSICLE STAND π Yeah, you're not sticking around in Dunwich to figure out what's going on. Maybe you're from Earth and think you can just drive home, not realizing this is an entirely new dimension or perhaps just in denial when familiar phone numbers don't work. Whatever the reason, you try to leave and cross The Ghost Line. Sadly that doesn't work out too well.VOLUNTEER A; You discover The Ghost Line "first" and are the one to name it. Please make a netpost about it within the first day or so.— Volunteer: Jake Pentecost
VOLUNTEER B; You decide to come up with a map of where The Ghost Line is precisely. For science or something.— Volunteer: Spock
VOLUNTEER C; Despite being warned about The Ghost Line, you decide to cross it anyway. While on the other side of The Ghost Line you feel a strange shimmer as a pigeon sized "insect" flies out of your incorporeal form. The insect has three faces and despite being silent, it is telepathically loud with three different conversations, none of which are pleasant. The insect flies far away. It's probably fine, right? π¬— Volunteer: Wednesday Addams
VOLUNTEER E; New! You attempt to teleport out of here. Huh. Wonder how that's going to turn out.— Volunteer: Illyana Rasputina
π GENIUSES GUNNA GENIUS π You're quick to realize what's happened, either on a scientific or cosmic level. It's going to be important to find and communicate with all the people who've arrived and are in the same situation as you. Perhaps someone has more information?VOLUNTEER D; You invented the network on day one, using either science or magic, which somehow detects new arrivals and puts a link to the Outlander Network on their phone or communication device.— Volunteer: Carol Danvers
π SETTING UP THE INCIDENT COMMAND POST π Natasha Romanoff has experience in organizing disparate heroes into a cohesive team of people. This proto leadership group may form into something official later. For now it's set up is more like a Search and Rescue (SAR) team, looking for new arrivals who may need assistance getting situated in Dunwich. It will start out based in The Pickman House, but may grow out of that later on. Maybe even get a snazzy new name? A cover business or non-profit to hide the real operation?UNLIMITED; You answer the call from Natasha Romanoff to help form a base of operations and figure out what's needed to keep you and your fellow Outlanders safe. Security, administration, securing resources, etc. WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO?
Please see the Evergreen Prompts page. Linked to the page is a google spreadsheet with one tab of personal plot prompts which you can grow into something more, and one tab of meta writing challenges if you're looking for something to work on.
Think we're missing a volunteer spot? Come up with something cool for your character to do that's not one of these roles? Pitch it to us! We'd love to hear it.
