Remy & Rogue

Today | tbh

Something strange is going on

Rogue wouldn't say that she'd gotten her hopes up exactly, not when someone asked about Nightcrawler. It wasn't that she wished he was there, but a part of her wanted that, even though she knew she shouldn't. It was bad enough that they were stuck here, she didn't need to wish it on anyone else. But if she was going to do exactly that she thought that Kurt might be the one she hoped for.

But things were strange recently, between the odd arrivals, and disappearances, and cards that suggested they could wish for anything they liked and actually get it. She wasn't sure she liked any of this, whatever it might mean.

"Something strange is happening," She said, finding Remy, as she sighed. "Things have been so strange lately, and now everyone seems to be finding long lost friends and connections?"

The wishes were strange, that was true. Remy was holding onto his though, trying not to think plainly greedy thoughts when they weren't his business to be thinking. It was best, he thought, to save it for now. See how things shook out for other people, if anything.

But this was all beyond that, maybe. The month had been amping up in oddity and a half-drunken karaoke break in the middle of Nothingness a week or so ago hadn't really helped much.

"Can't trust a thing here lately," he said, squinting down at his phone to see just what kind of nonsense he was missing out on this second. It seemed there was a lot. "Y'okay? No long lost connection showing up for you, is there?"

"Not even a little bit," She agreed, which was saying something, considering where they were and what they'd been through already. But there was something in the air that made it all just a little bit more recently. And she couldn't say she was rightly a fan of any of it.

She shook her head though, "Not so lucky as that," though lucky didn't really feel like the right word for it. "I thought for a second someone had seen Kurt, but it was something else." She crossed her arms over her chest frowning trying not to be to disappointed over all of this.

"Nothing for you either?" She asked, "I did wonder about those big monster things people are talkin' about, makes me wonder if we ought to be out there doing something about it."

"Think we oughta go be heroes?" Remy asked, only shaking his head over whether or not he'd seen something. But then he was worried, a bit, he might if he looked too hard. "S'pose it been a while, eh? Be silly if we got out of practice."

But the giant things weren't sentinels and they didn't even sound all that hard to beat. Remy half guessed if they went out there to do business, they'd be taken care of already. This place was full of would be heroes. It was like finding a church on a corner in the south.

She shrugged her shoulders, they didn't sound like that much of a problem - considering one of the children mistakes had seemingly taken care of one on her own. "Not really sure if they even need us." She admitted, "We could though, maybe if they start acting up a bit more." She reasoned. It was one thing if they were just there and easily handled, it was something else if they started hurting folks.

But that was something they could figure out a little later. For now the giants weren't exactly bothering them or their, and there was enough additional strangeness that she wanted to examine a bit more before anything else.

"I almost wonder if this is something people are using their wishes for?" To be reunited with friends or find something familiar again.

Remy echoed her shrug with one of his own. It was true - it was handled. And if it wasn't later, they could call in the big guns. Which was to say, them. And maybe Iron Man, since he was clearly around and doing a little bit of nothing, himself.

Very Avengers-eqsue of them, really.

"I don't think so," Remy said, although he supposed that maybe it was possible to wish of a reminder of home and to be gifted with the actual worse thing from there.

"Speaking of," he said, rubbing at the stubble on his chin with his palm, the opposite of cool. "You think on yours? Using it?"

She would have to wonder if people actually wished for those giant monsters, but they were stuck here with some strange folks so you never could be too sure what went on inside other people's minds, least not if you weren't the professor or Jean. But that wasn't really the point right then.

Her own potential wish was something she'd been thinking about, if she should trust it, or if she did what would she even use it for? "I hadn't made up my mind." She admitted, her shoulders lifting a little as she shrugged.

"You come up with anything good?" If she'd gotten a wish like this a few years ago she knew exactly what she'd have wished for, but after trying to change herself once before she didn't think it was something she was ready to do a second time, not when she didn't know where the wish had even come from.

"No," Remy admitted, spreading his fingers wide in a gesture of surrender. Maybe to the idea of wishing for something. "Wishing -- c'est pour les enfants."

That probably wasn't true, but he couldn't imagine it wouldn't get all twisted up, in a place like this. And he'd never had anything handed to him before anyway. "What's to wish for that I can't just get on my own, anyway?"

Nothing, really. At least, nothing for himself. And he wasn't fool enough to wish for anything for Rogue.

"I don't know about that now, sugar." She understood what he meant though. Still, she thought maybe even they were allowed to wish for things even if they might never actually get them.

She smiled though, because if Remy was good at nothing else, it was getting what he wanted, or as close to it as possible. And there wasn't much more she wanted here than what she already had, it felt a little too much like tempting fate to try and add to it.

"Suppose there's the obvious though," She admitted holding out her gloved hand, because that was something she'd always want, no matter how well they managed their away around their reality, but wishing for it? She couldn't help but fear what that might actually look like.

It was the thief in him, really. Getting things wasn't hard -- and if it was hard, it was worth the trouble. For instance, he'd been pretty positive that Rogue hadn't been likely to give him the time of day when they'd first met, let alone a date.

And now they had a house together.

"There is that," Remy said carefully, offering her a curious little side eye, just a little flash of red and black. "You thinking on that?"

She exhaled slowly, because the truth was - "I'm always thinking on that." She admitted, she wanted that kind of connection. Not just with him, but with everyone. She wanted to be able to move through her life without worrying that she'd hurt people just by accidentally brushing against them.

It was complicated, and she didn't even fully know how she felt about it. Even trying to picture what it would be like was difficult.

"I'd like to be able to touch you without hurtin' you from time to time." Maybe not always, maybe not even forever. But there were times she wanted it almost more than she wanted anything else.

Remy would, obviously, like that too. That went without saying. And he thought, at this point, it always went without saying that he didn't need to in order for this thing between them to work.

He could get creative, if and when he needed to. And it wasn't just touch that made him like Rogue.

But that didn't mean he didn't want it, sometimes.

It wasn't unfair to want that. Not for either of them.

"You'd have to word it just so," he said after a beat. "If you planned on -- ever."

She nodded, it was too much to just go in blindly trusting any sort of wish, let alone a wish in a place like this. "Might have to think on it for a little while and see what I can come up with."

It wasn't that she needed it all the time, but ... she wanted it. She wanted to be able to touch Remy. Or at least not be quite so careful around him - they'd had mishaps before, and she didn't want to hurt him again.

"That's just about the only thing I can imagine might be worth a wish." She breathed out a little wistful sigh, "I think we've done okay for ourselves here so far." Sure it wasn't what they were used to, but they were still here together and that counted for something she thought.

"Better than we have some other places," Remy agreed, because they did have something good going on here -- Bon Temps was a good place and Remy was proud of it most days, and their house was exactly that. Theirs.

"It'd be worth a wish," he said rubbing at his stubble and squinting his eyes thoughtfully. "But don' ever feel like I'd think less if you didn't, girl." He knew, of course, that it wasn't just for him. But Remy didn't want to be the person to tip scales Rogue was unsure of.

That was true - things back home were... well they were always dancing a knife's edge, some days were good, better than good, and others were a lot less good. And while things here might get a little strange, there hadn't been anyone here who had attacked any of them because just because they were mutants. That counted for something. Being just the same as everyone else even while she was still herself. It was the kind of thing she hoped they'd figure out back home one day.

But for now they were here and she didn't have many complaints about all of it. Not so long as a few things remained the same.

"If I did it, it wouldn't be for you." She told him, the corners of her mouth turning upward, amused at his reassurance. "No matter how cute you are. It'd be for me, and what I want." Which was him, and so many other things.

"I know," Remy said, because he really did. There was no real confusing how Rogue worked, these days. They'd mostly gotten over the mysterious phases when it came to each other. Mostly.

"Just saying," he said with a crooked smile and a wink.
