Drabble Day 2020 - Welcome, Quarantine Protocol, Assistants, Time Zones & Drabbling Rules!
Hello Eskimos and other Potentials! (Hey, everyone's stuck at home - you never know who might pop in. Guests welcome!)
Apparently we live in a dystopia now! Fun times. How are you all coping?
...right. Dumb question. Most of us are in some kind of lockdown, so theoretically we have all this time to be creative, right? Well, not so much... turns out when you're worried about your loved ones and the entire damn planet, the muses tend to be a bit coy.
So, in a potentially ill-advised move, for this year's Drabble Day, we have decided to just roll with the theme the world is throwing at us. A lot of the prompts will probably sound a bit familiar from our daily lives, but hopefully they'll still be broad enough to allow for a wide range of interpretations.
You know what? I should really hand over this admin stuff to our new assistant! We learned our lesson from last year-
...er, it's ok, April, no one's asking you to do anything. This year we went with someone who can get shit done. ROSA?
Right. Sorry. Do you want to introduce yourself?
Uhm... ok. Nothing at all?
See? She's already a pro at social distancing AND she's really scary so she'll keep us all in line.
Do you want to explain the rules, maybe?
Okay! I'll explain the rules, you can take over first prompt post.
So, lovelies, it's pretty much same procedure as every year - every hour on the dot, starting at 6am US/Canada Central time, 7am US/Canada Eastern, 11am UK (GMT), noon Europe (CET), midnight NZ (NZST), we will post a prompt. Participants are then invited to write and post a drabble, or multiple drabbles if you so choose, inspired by that prompt. Please post your drabbles as comments to the relevant prompts post. Do feel free to interpret the prompts as liberally as you like!
You can write single drabbles, double/triple drabbles, drabble series, whatever tickles your fancy, and of course you can add as many as you like to previous prompts if you have the time within the timeframe of the challenge. Just remember that a drabble is exactly 100 words (titles do not count towards the 100 words).
As always, we accept all fandoms (including original work), all pairings, and all ratings. The only thing we ask is that for better clarity, you put the fandom, as well as character(s)/pairing(s), in the subject line.
The challenge will last for 24 hours.* Totals will be tallied after the challenge finishes, and participants will receive their praise and adoration in an awards post a couple days after.
*We are aware that Europe has a Daylight Savings switch on early Sunday morning and will therefore lose an hour. Don't worry - you can have an hour longer at the end to make up for it. (We won't enforce this as a Europe-only rule - if anyone else wants to make use of the extra hour, go for it.)
I think that's it! We hope to see you all in a few hours!
