Drabble Day: Posting guidelines, theme, rules, try not to get killed, etc.
WHY HELLO THERE!
Nice to see you folks! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Peeta Mellark and I've been asked by lilithilien and aldiara to help out with co-hosting Drabble Day this year. Apparently my profession and camera experience qualify me for this job, so of course I said yes!
Most of you already know the drill, but we figured we'd still put out a reminder of how stuff works.
[UHM NO PEETA THAT IS WRONG ABORT ABORT ABORT! WTF??]
Whoa, sorry girls! I don't actually know what I'm doing. You see, they tried to get Finnick, but he was too... busy.
Yeah. Busy. Doing...stuff.
Okay, for realz now though. LET'S DO THIS THING.
Better? [Yes, much, thank you!] Cheers!
So here's the deal: Drabble Day starts TODAY, i.e. on Friday, 4th October, at 11 AM GMT. There are a few changes from last year's format. The most important of these is that, because last year whilst you were all happily drabbling, your mods also had to fight a scary time-vortex-creating monster that very nearly sucked them into oblivion forever ("but no big," this note says... okay...?), this year, there will only be 13 prompts.* I know, I know, I hear you all wailing in agony, but you know, you could always write two drabbles for each prompt and you will be restored to your usual nerve-wracking, write-or-die, omg-how-has-another-hour-passed-already, debilitating pressure. Yay!
Like every year, this will be a multi-fandom challenge. We do not give a damn which fandom, era, genre, style, or rating. All we care about is that you can fit it into 100 words.
And now, for this year's theme... [You really should have led with the theme, Peetz.] I'm sorry, did you want to do this yourself? [No, no, you're grand. Carry on and stay pretty.] Uhm.... okay.
This year's theme is...
[Er. Peeta?]
Ack, sorry, sorry! I just thought, PUPPIES! Who doesn't love puppies? Especially 13 of them? But I meant, of course...
Woohoooo! As you may or may not know, I am a baker.
["Ass tries?" "Astrids?" "A Soggy Tribute Really In Epic Shit?" Ok, I was badly positioned there. But...
[OMG Peeta, what way is that to treat nice bread??] It was burned. Not one of my strongest credentials there, ok??
...or there. THE POINT IS, I AM A BAKER AND I BAKE THINGS, OKAY??
[Okay.]
Thank you. Now, about the theme, all 13 prompts will be baking-related things, BUT like last year's hairporn fest (which I'm not even going to pretend I understand the first thing about because frankly it looks mental), your mods have chosen prompts that, while adhering to the theme, also have any number of alternative interpretations. For example, if a prompt is "loaf," you may absolutely write about Captain Flint and Silver engaging in breadporn, but you may also have Alicia loafing about her apartment (does she loaf?), or have Sherlock wearing loafers (would he wear loafers? I really don't know about these things, you guys), or go German and pretend it's "body", or even that you misheard it as "love", or just go with something you liked about the banner. We will accept the flimsiest of associations, promise!
And now for The Rules:
As mentioned above, this year there will be only 13 prompts. However, the challenge itself will still be open for 24 hours, from 11 AM (GMT) on 4 November 2016 until the same hour on 5 November 2016. So after the last prompt has been posted, you will still have another 11 hours to get in your drabbles.
At the top of each hour, we’ll post a drabble prompt here in the Drabble Day asylum. You will have until the end of the challenge to write a drabble based on that prompt. The only rule is that your contribution must be a drabble. NOTE: A drabble is 100 words, not including the title. No cheating on this one, peeps, it’s pretty much the only thing we’re firm about. (If you don’t have MS Word, please use an online word counting tool like Word Counter.)
Post your drabble as a comment to the prompt post. Please put the name of the fandom and the characters/pairing in the subject line so people will know what they’re reading.
You can write as many or as few drabbles as you like. You can write multiple ones for the same prompt. You can write one for every prompt. You can write one single drabble for the entire day. Whatever works for you.
The challenge will close at 11 AM (GMT) on 5 November 2016. No drabbles will be accepted for the challenge after that (although you’re still free to continue writing them for as long as you want).
Drabble sequences, double/triple drabbles, etc. are totally okay, as long as you don’t abuse that to write a single drabble longer than 100 words.
That's pretty much it, according to my instructions! If you're suffering from performance anxiety, don't worry, so do I.
I can't really stress enough that I have no idea what I'm doing!
However, just put on your fiercest outfit...
...fake it till you make it...
...and remember you can do this!
(Shit, is that burning bread again? Gotta dash!)
HAPPY DRABBLING, EVERYBODY!!
*The mods reserve the right to lose their sanity change their minds and come up with bonus prompts as they see fit.
