[Riddler]

[She is a skinny thing, obviously regaining weight from a period of near starvation and tethered to the doorknob of Riddler's apartment along with a small bowl of water. Next to the door is a crate, filled with the very basics of dog care: a water bowl, a food bowl, a bag of dog food that should feed her long enough for Eddie to go out and get some other food for her.

Dangling from her collar is a small USB flash drive. On it is her history (she's five, vaccinated, dewormed, neutered, rescued from a puppy mill and has been in foster care for several months following two rounds of antibiotics) and her temperament scores (scares easily, but affectionate and desperate to please). On her files it is noted that she needs to be trained to go on grass and that loud voices frighten her.

It is also noted that she needs a name and the vet staff have taken to calling her Sweetie. The drag queens report only that a burly man in black brought the dog in and made it clear that she was not to be harmed and given only to Eddie.]

[Eddie, still recovering from his injuries and dazed from pain medication, doesn't notice the dog tied to his doorknob for a good hour or so because he's not watching the monitors. Eventually, a neighbor buzzes his intercom and he wanders out to find the nervous, circling dog at his feet. He stands there in his doorway, arm in a sling, bandages covering most of his hands, arms and face like some kind of beat-up noir hardboiled detective before kneeling and putting his free hand out for her to sniff.

If you asked the drag queens watching and chatting from the hallway, they'd tell you it took about thirty seconds tops before she was nuzzling the palm of his hand and whining for food. Hours later, they're seen walking around the quiet, elderly part of town. Eddie isn't supposed to leave his apartment in his condition, but (the newly named) Matilda is a good enough excuse as any.]
