That's what one of these names will do. When you call and give them the code, I want to know their reaction. Are they awake, do they pause. I want to know who did this.

[Then, without a pause, he reels off six names. Four are men, two are women. Each has an associated codeword, except the last, which has a seven digit number that sounds like a phone number but isn't.

Pause. He shifts, grunts with pain, and snaps what sounds like a plastic bag open.]

Got it?

[Bossy bastard. A burner phone, a very sophisticated, subtle voice changer, and a long-since memorized Boston accent later, his phone rings again. It all takes about twenty-five minutes, and she's obviously on the move once he picks up.]

Two of the men were awake, and two of them were asleep. The woman with the non-standard number sounded frightened, the sleeping men sounded annoyed, then concerned. The two men that were awake sounded unsurprised, but there was a slight tremor in their voice that means they actually were. The last woman's your trigger. She was waiting for the call. Tripped over me before I finished the number, hung up before I had a chance to breathe after. Definitely awake when I called, greeting showed signs of rapid breathing, breathlessness indicated accelerated heartbeat. She's your trigger, but not your mastermind.

Did you ever consider that blackmailing every high-placed, elected official in this country was a bad career move?
