[Thanks to the wonders of technology, the only thing in this entry are several links to pictures in a digital photo album. The pictures are out of focus, hardly done with a practised hand, but the objects in them are more than visible. Photographs of photographs, old ones by the look of it. Laughing teenagers, teenagers in a graveyard in New Orleans, a boy and a girl. The fashions date them from early 80s easily. No writing accompanies the pictures.]

[On the journals, after about five hours.]

She was beautiful.

She was. She was a good friend.

She never mentioned you I don't look like her. I always wished I did when I was little. You were good friends from the looks of it in the pictures. I'm assuming that's you?

I saw you a couple times when you were a baby, but if you're anything like your mother, I'm sure you're beautiful in your own way.

Yes, we were good friends. That's me, a few of our other friends from school.

[...] Do you know who your father was, Wren?

[Quickly, without any space to think before typing.] She's dead. You can't send her to jail for what she did.

[...]

Sorry.

That's not why I asked, Wren.

The past is the past. I'm not here to dredge anything up. Just trying to connect some pieces of the puzzle. Some people.

You didn't answer my question.

[There's another significant delay here. Nearly an hour.]

You're the one bringing up the past, not me.

[A long cursor blink before she types again.] Not his name. I know he was really old, and married, and with a bunch of daughters.

[almost immediately]

His name was Quentin Bellamy. He was married. Had several daughters. And he wasn't that old, not really. Old enough that he and I got along pretty well, though.

You were [...] friends?

The past is the past. I've no grudges, no hard feelings.

But if you're my niece, I would like to know you better. Your mother was a good friend, Wren. I got into more than my share of trouble with her, and I've nothing but fond memories of her.

Do I care? Yes, of course I care. But there's nothing I can do to change that. I would rather focus on what we have now.

You're family, Wren. And family has always been something important to myself, to my parents.

Quentin was very much his own person. I was only 16 when he died, though, so my memories of him come from the eyes of a boy who idolized his brother. At least until I found out what he was doing.

Our family is French. My parents came over before they had Quentin and I. We spoke French at home as well. And no, I did not. I studied abroad for a while, and then went to university. I honestly - I haven't spoken to her since shortly after you were born.

She became a prostitute. She was killed when I was thirteen.

History. I like that. Maman used to take us into antique stores all the time when I was little. She loved old things. She thought they were romantic.

If there's ever anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to let me know. Other than my shop, I've a lot of time on my hands.

It's a paper journal. Fitting. Though I've recently acquired an iPad after being told I live too far in the past.

There's no rush at all. You let me know what you're comfortable with. I've called Vegas home for a couple years, and I don't believe I'll be going anywhere for many more.
