WHO: Noëlle Zabini and Lucius Malfoy
WHAT: Coffeetime plottings
WHEN: January 5, 2018
WHERE: Some high-end coffee shop
“Don’t tell Rabastan, but I think your office is much better decorated,” Noëlle complimented as she knocked at the entrance to his door, despite having already let herself in. She took a moment to actually look around, to verify her claim made based on Lucius’ personality rather than facts. “But would you like to get out of it and have a coffee with me?” Lucius took a look around his office and chuckled. He hadn't made it his own — that would mean he took this job seriously and that he intended to spend more than three hours a day there — but at least it was devoid of comic books. He liked the wallpaper he'd chosen too. "Thank you, but I tell him that all the time." Getting up from his desk, he glanced at the clock on the wall. "And I'd love to. I've spent enough time here today." An hour and twenty five minutes to be exact. “Perfect,” Noëlle smiled. Soon after they were seated in the most expensive nearby coffee shop. “How are you finding having a job?” she asked, sipping at her cup. “After how Jasper and Gemstone have robbed me of my money, perhaps I need to get one.” A complete exaggeration; one inheritance had been enough to set her up for life, let alone the other five between her first husband and Octavian. "I wouldn't recommend it," Lucius answered wryly, picking up his own cup to take a sip. He made a note to compliment the barista. "I certainly wouldn't recommend you take a job at the Ministry. Although," he paused, amused, "your former stepson's head might explode if you suddenly became his new co-worker." “That would be almost worth it,” she smirked into her cup. “I’m sure being in the DMLE isn’t that hard if even he can manage it.” "I've heard his job mostly consists of picking up stray cats," he said. "You could sit in the office for a few days and scare him if you wanted." Lucius grew more serious after that, his smile dropping. "I am sorry that he swindled you out of your money, though." Noëlle may have laughed, but now Lucius had mentioned it, perhaps that would be a fun way to spend a couple of days. If anyone deserved to be tortured a little it was Jasper. She grew serious when Lucius did though, frowning into her coffee. “Thank you. I can’t believe they got everything.” Aside from Octavian’s apartment, which was no small inheritance, but that was completely beside the point. Noëlle did not lack for money, but it didn't mean he wanted Jasper Williamson to win the dispute. Not only was it amusing to see him get out of sorts when his dead father's marriage was brought up, Lucius also supported Noëlle's financial gains. It would have had the extra benefit of possibly keeping her from going after Rabastan's money, and although it was fun to tease him for it, he didn't actually want his friend dead. "You need a new lawyer," Lucius advised. "And I think making Williamson's life miserable would be a fine revenge." Non-murderous revenge had never been Noëlle’s strong suit; why mess with someone when you could just get rid of them completely? But although she had already thought of many different ways to kill Jasper, this soon after the settlement she knew she would be a main suspect if he should suddenly die. So, unfortunately, non-murderous revenge was what it would have to be. For now. “And how would that be done?” Lucius sat back in his chair with a satisfied smile as ideas came to mind. This was much better than pretending he enjoyed being in his office and especially better than pretending he enjoyed Quidditch. "I'll talk to Corban and see if he can do something about his work. You should think about visiting the Hitwizards sometime too. Have you any thoughts about how to make him paranoid?" “All I have to do is bring him coffee and he thinks I’m trying to poison him,” Noëlle replied, remembering their Starbeaks incident. “I don’t think he’s hard to make paranoid.” Her tone suggested that Jasper was overly paranoid, crazy for thinking she’d ever do such thing to anyone. “He did say his New Year’s resolution is to drink more, maybe he could do with a very nice bottle of scotch.” There was a vague recollection of those words and he thought it over. "I'll have to run into him in the Ministry and present him with some," Lucius said. "Any extras will, of course, have to go to his family." “Liam isn’t old enough for scotch, you’ll have to make sure to bring him something else.” His brow furrowed for a moment before he realized that Liam was Noëlle's name for the son. "Of course. I'll find some expensive juice for the child." “You're so generous,” Noëlle commented. “Sometimes I don't understand why he doesn't like us.” "I think the answer, as it often is, can only be attributed to jealousy," Lucius said with a slight laugh. “Probably,” Noëlle agreed with a smile. “We are almost perfect.” "Almost?" Noëlle took another long sip of her coffee, pretending to be carefully considering his question. “You’re right,” she agreed a moment later. “We are flawless.” |
