Who: Tom and Seiko.
What: Being ~~forced~~ asked to go for a walk.
Where: BEACH
When: Few days into beach, around sunset.
Why: To go for a perfectly innocent walk.

Seiko wandered down one of the many corridors in the Satou beach house, she'd had to ask Kanaye for directions, he'd given her a very strange grin when she'd told him why she wanted to know where Tom's room was, but she put that to the back of her mind.

After all she was only coming to ask Tom out for a walk because she was fairly sure he'd try to avoid going out, and the sunsets here were truly amazing. Besides he was her friend, and it was important to show your friends you wanted to see them. Hopefully she wouldn't interrupt something,but he hadn't been annoyed by her turning up yet.

Finally reaching the door she gave two confident knocks and fiddled absentmindedly with the edge of her shorts, though she suspected 'hotpants' were a little closer to a proper description. She'd never forgive her mother for repacking her bags...

"Tom! Its Seiko!" she called as an afterthought.

Seiko nodded and followed Tom with a smile, glad at least one of them knew the way, she kept getting completely lost. But paused as he spoke with a confused expression.

"Um Tom? Why do we want to be unnoticed?" She bit her lip for a second, it wasn't like he was embarrassed to be seen with her right?

She knew he hadn't been at the school last year, but maybe he had heard too much about her? Or Kanaye had told him stupid stuff, she hadn't thought that would have worried Tom as he was friends with Kozue. She sighed and tugged her hair, she really didn't know what was wrong with her today, she didn't usually worry this much about anything.

"I mean...this is Kanaye's house and we know everyone here, so its not dangerous..."

Tom stopped and looked at Seiko with a quirked brow. Max however was too excited to go outside, and bounded ahead. Now he was stuck pulling against the leash, feet sliding quickly on the shiny tile floor.

"Don't be silly... We have enemies who are trying to kill us. it's always dangerous." He looked over at Max and hung his head, then patted his leg to get the puppies attention. Tom looked back at Seiko.

"I guess it's force of habit, I... uh... " Tom frowned. "I guess I just feel uncomfortable when too many people notice me... Is that... weird? Kondo-chan said I was kinda nuts once... and... I mean..." He sighed. "I guess I'm still kind of off putting at times."

Seiko stared then laughed and grinned as they finally moved out onto the beach.

"No! I was just worried like...you didn't want to be seen with me or something. If it is just a safety thing then that's sensible I guess!" She smiled again, relieved, maybe he was a little overzealous on safety, but that was better than being too relaxed about things. After all someone was trying to kill them...

She frowned as he mentioned what Kozue had said. "Nuts?" she shook her head. "You aren't off putting, you are nice to spend time with!" she tilted her head to the side and moved very slightly to walk a little closer to Tom.

"Why would I be ashamed to be seen with you? Everyone on the team likes you and I..." Tom looked at her, suddenly aware that she was closer. For a second he paused.

"...I sometimes think that you all just drag me out of my room because you think there's something wrong with me. Which... nice to spend time with? Really? Not like... time on the case.... just.... time... together?" Tom seemed slightly disbelieving.

"Oh well...I still have a bad reputation, at least at school, some people assume I'll just go back to what I was last year." She shrugged looking away from Tom for a moment. That old reputation was dying down, and it had really not crossed her mind that much recently what with everything that had happened.

She stopped and turned to face Tom with a concerned expression. "There is nothing wrong with you, you are yourself, I don't want to change that." Seiko said shaking her head. "You are a good person, I like spending time with you, there isn't anything else to it, I don't have a hidden motive." She adjusted her top for a moment whilst she thought of what to say.

"We're friends right? Its normal for us to just spend time together..."

Tom waved a dissmissive hand.

"I've been aware of your reputation since joined the team. And..." Tom had further thoughts about how he had investigated Seiko's rep, his opinion on it and all, but then she said it. "there's nothing wrong with you," It was the first time in his entire life anyone had ever even suggested such an idea. He would have argued but Seiko adjusted her shirt. His eyes drifted to the ground, not solely because of the shirt adjusting. He stood silent for a moment, then let out a breath and spoke.

"I couldn't tell you what's normal for friends Seiko. Before you guys ... I never really had any."

Seiko was quiet for a little while as they started walking again, wandering down the beach for a while watching the sea, finally she spoke again.

"But the others are your friends too, they do things with you right?" she asked, sticking close to Tom to try and be comforting without making him feel awkward, after all he had seemed fairly surprised when she had hugged him before, well surprised was an understatement...

"Are you having fun here Tom?" She asked trying to ask something normal, She didn't want to get too deep into anything that may make Tom's mood drop.

Tom nodded quickly when asked about the others.

"They are my friends, and yeah... Kondo-chans been trying to get me out of my room since we met. And... Umm Ishinomori-san has been pretty good. And Ito-san... But I haven't really talked to Sonozaki-san since... uh... since before I was thrown into Paradise."

He went quiet for a moment noticing how she was hovering close, he figured she was probably worried about him, he always felt awkward when peope were worried about him, like somehow it wasn't fair that they. would focus their attention on him. Though he oddly didn't want Seiko to step back. When she asked if he was having fun he thought for a second.

"Fun... Is also something I don't have enough experience with to give a qualified answer...". He turned to look out at the water, then back at Seiko. "But... I do like being here I think."

eiko noted, with some curiosity, that he referred to the others using their surnames and honorifics, she had assumed seeing as he had got used to calling her by her name only that he must have done similar with other people. She almost felt proud of the fact he called her Seiko when he called his other friends such formal names.

"They all seem to be nice people in this group... or at least they all care enough to save each other." her response was fairly neutral, having heard his mention of Sonozaki-san, she didn't want to ask about it when clearly it was something difficult for him.

Seiko stopped and turned to look at the sunset with a gentle smile.

"Well fun is different for everyone anyway, I mean my idea of fun is different from say...Oubai-san's. As long as you are doing something that makes you happy, or you enjoy then that is fun." She waved her hand at the sunset, "with views like this...I like being here too."

Tom stood silently for a bit. Finally a thought struck him. Being a friend meant he should interact too right? Shouldn't he ask questions, and make observations. He couldn't just leave Seiko to do it all. He turned to her.

"Are you.... uh... having fun?" He had no idea if it was the right question, and it showed on his face.

Max meanwhile had bounded about the sand, tugging anxiously on the leash in an attempt to get down to the water and investigate the surf. Finally he settled on the notion of digging in the sand, the sand making wonderful digging material.

Seiko smiled at him, her smile there almost just to assure him he had said the right thing, and that she appreciated him showing an interest.

"It is beautiful here, and its nice to see everyone getting some downtime." she looked out across the sea again then over to the setting sun, and then looked back to Tom. "I'm having fun being able to be with my friends without being concerned one of them may get thrown into that place..."

She watched Max dig in the sand with an almost childlike grin, just enjoying watching the puppy play. Seiko was easily pleased, but watching a puppy play on a beach, in a beautiful sunset with a friend, she couldn't think of a nicer way to spend an evening.

Tom nodded, then looked away for a moment.

"Do you really think we're safe? I mean... well by the time I got together with the team, Ishinomori-san was already in there, but Ikeda-san, and Akuba-san I should have seen coming. Especially Ikeda-san. But... I mean... Sonozaki-san and Ito-san both went into Paradise without the killer. So how do we..." Tom suddenly feared that this might dampen Seiko's mood, and he felt bad at the thought of her not smiling. He hung his head slightly and let out a sigh.

After a moment, Max looked up at Seiko tail wagging. He run up to Tom's leg, and butted the back of Tom's legs with his head.

Seiko's smile dropped and she sighed looking back up at the house where the rest of the group probably were. She had wanted to hope they were safe here, after all the other cases had happened at the school. An uncharacteristically worried look flashed across her face. She sighed again and pulled her expression back into a smile.

"Well we are becoming more aware of what happens before going in...and..." she smiled a little brighter. "We're all here to protect each other, I mean,no one has died in a long time because of the group, that is something. And the harder we work the more we'll find out about who is doing this." She tried to sound reassuring, especially as Tom seemed to blame himself even when she was sure there was little he could have done.

"As long as everyone works together we should be able to do this, the group has a lot of people with talents that can help solve this." She smiled at Tom again, "We just have to keep trying."

She grinned, suddenly seeming to go back to being completely carefree as she watched Max nudging at Tom's legs.

Tom felt bad about robbing Seiko of her good mood. He let out a breath, and without realizing put his hand on Seiko's back.

"We're a team, and we'll take care of each other. And I'll figure this out." He looked away from her for a second, and nodded. "I know I will."

Max had listened to the two of them talk with a head cocked to the side. He seemed almost worried about Tom, but when Tom reached out to Seiko, Max moved forward and began sniffing her legs. After a second he beg to lick her calfs just above her ankles.

Seiko blinked, wait, Tom had put his hand on her back? She tried not to look surprised, because that would probably make him worry. Though she imagined looking too pleased about it may confuse him too instead she quietly listened to what he said.

"Well, I'm not very good at puzzles and that kind of thing, so I guess I'll just have to put my trust in you." she smiled at Tom with a vulnerably innocent look.

She was sure Tom was able to solve the case, with everyone else being there and helping of course. But he seemed a lot smarter than her, at least outside social intelligence, and he seemed to understand this investigation far more than she ever could. But she could sense his determination.

She was shaken out of her train of thought upon feeling Max licking her legs, she looked down at him and giggled at the sight of the puppy.

Tom blinked at Seiko. She said she trusted him, and the look she gave... well it was enough to keep him from realizing his hand was on her shoulder now, at least for a few more seconds.
Even though she was a team member, she still needed him, and he would protect her. He would protect all of his friends, and he would stop the killer.

"We will..." Then he noticed Max. When Seiko giggled, the small puppy stepped back and ran around her legs, all the while looking up at her. Once he was around her though, he ran behind Tom, where he was just small enough to disappear behind Tom's feet. Well disappear except for a tiny head poking out and looking at them both.

Seiko noticed his hand on her shoulder and smiled, she was glad he was becoming more comfortable around her. After all it didn't seem like he really made friends that easily, it was nice to think it made her special in some small way. She wondered if they'd have ever spoken if she hadn't developed this power, become part of the group. The thought made her feel strangely glad to have become part of the group, without it she would not have made these friends.

Watching Max as he ran around she tilted her head. "As long as everyone works together I'm sure this can be solved. I mean there are some really clever people involved in this, and also some really brave ones." she looked at Tom with a smile, then shrugged.

"I just want to do whatever I can to help, doesn't matter what it is as long as my friends are safe."

	Tom's hand slipped from her shoulder, and dropped to his side, as he realized that he'd held it there far longer then he thought he should. He nodded to Seiko, feeling that they were in agreement. Seiko looked at the setting sun and shrugged, they'd been stood still a while now, and it was going to get dark and she was fairly sure she was perfectly capable of getting lost on the unfamiliar beach in the dark.

"We better get moving, the sun will set." she waved her arm towards the sun.

She hadn't noticed the dog lead that had been innocently looped around her ankles by Max as she'd been distracted by talking. Without looking down at her feet she went to step forwards past Tom, and tripped over the lead, spectacularly.

The terrible flimsy and unsuitable sandals her mother packed in replacement of her nice flat sensible shoes made things worse, as it had been hard enough to balance on them without the sudden tripping forwards. unable to stop herself toppling over face first, she fell with a quiet "Eeep."

As Seiko fell forward, Tom's arm lashed out to catch her. It slipped around her waist, and Tom himself side stepped around her, within the limited space the leash provided. He still held the leash with his free hand, which meant he had to support her full weight with the one arm.

It left them both leaning slightly, with Seiko facing him, and Tom bent over, with his arm around her waist, and hand planted at the small of her back.

Seiko's flight forwards was suddenly stopped and she gasped in yet more surprise as Tom caught her. However with her ankles still tangled she wasn't really in a position to free herself, without really thinking she caught hold of Tom's shoulder to try to hold herself up.

"Uh right, um." She finally, very aware of how close they were, usually she had no problem being close to people, when it was on her terms, but this was unexpected, and she wasn't entirely sure what was the correct way to proceed when being held up like this.

"So uh, we better get untangled..." for once Seiko looked slightly embarrassed glancing away from Tom's face for a moment trying to not look too awkward.

Tom nodded, and with out a word, he reached down to slip his free hand under her knees. He straightened himself, lifting Seiko off the ground. His other hand slid closer to her shoulders, and he wrapped his arm more around her.

He only held her for a moment, before depositing her feet first on the ground outside of the leash. Then he went to work, unwrapping the leash from his own legs.

Seiko once put back on solid ground looked decidedly embarrassed, she hadn't really expected to be lifted up into the air so suddenly, or at all. Though usually she could wave off embarrassing situations with a laugh and a smile. generally she didn't get embarrassed. particularly as she'd been physically close to enough people to not be bothered by it. She was fairly surprised Tom didn't seem as awkward as she did.

"I'm sorry for that." She said trying to regain her normal tone. "I didn't see the lead and um...thanks for catching me."
she looked out across the water at the sunset.

Tom shook his head as he unwrapped Max's leash from his legs.

"It's fine Seiko. He can get kind of out of control sometimes. As long as you aren't hurt that's what's important." Once he had untangled himself from the puppy, he took a step forward and stood next to Seiko. He too, looked out over the water for a second. He tried not to let his mind drift, when it drifted it back to...
He shook his head and looked at the blonde next to him.

"So... what now?"

"No I'm not hurt." Seiko said, her normal tone returning and giving Tom a smile at his concern for her wellbeing.

She blinked at his question and tilted her head, he was bored? Or maybe he really just had no idea what to say. She shivered in the cold as the sun had almost set, only wearing the tiny clothes her mother had packed.

"I guess we better get back in." she replied finally folding her arms in an attempt to keep the cold out.

Tom nodded without saying a word. The trip had been her idea after all. When she shivered, and crossed her arms though, he let the black shirt slide off his shoulders, switching the leash from hand to hand.

He draped the shirt over Seiko's shoulders, letting it hang so her upper arms were covered from the wind. This left him shirtless, and made the scar that ran symmetrically down his chest and back a good deal more visible.

"Thank you."

Seiko smiled as he put his shirt on her shoulders, usually she'd object, but it really was beginning to get cold and she appreciated something to keep the chill off. Though it did feel a bit strange to be essentially 'wearing' some of Tom's clothing, that he'd just taken off. She was distracted from this train of thought however when she noticed the scar...

Seiko stared for a moment, she had noticed it before, but she hadn't really thought about it, she'd tried not to. After all the only other person she knew who had such prominent scars was her Father, and his had been made when he had nearly died, and Tom's...Well the similarity was unnerving.

"Um, you know..." She moved closer to talk to him. "I think it was brave, that you protected us, and that... I know I said it before..." she looked down at the scar.

"Its just to me, it really does show you are brave. You haven't even acted differently since..." she smiled slightly tilting her head. "And um, aren't you going to be cold?"

Tom looked down at the injury, and reached a hand up to run his finger along it.

"It was worthless. I didn't die to protect anyone, or to stop the shadow. I didn't survive a strong assault like Kondo-chan or Ishinomori-san. I just... died." He looked down for a second, then shrugged. He shook his head though to clear away any lingering signs of irritation.

"It doesn't matter. It happened, and all I can do is be stronger next time."

Seiko moved in front of him, her smile dropped and a concerned look in her eyes.

"But you are being strong now." she said quietly, "I mean... you are dealing with it afterwards, moving on. Some people would have broken down or refused to fight again. You haven't you've kept going."

she didn't want to try to repeat how she thought even at the time he was brave, she had told him that before, and she didn't want to upset him. But it was difficult to not compare it to how her father had been, he'd been brave, but he'd been alone, her mother had left him pretty much as soon as she found out he'd be permanently scarred, and Seiko really had been too young to be much support.

Seiko pulled the shirt a little closer round her shoulders, she knew Tom had friends who were there to help him deal with things, but it worried her, that he'd be on his own.

"I mean thats just what I think." she added finally, "But personally, I do think you were...you are being brave."
