It was stupid that just something like that was as comforting to her as it was. Only a few months ago she'd thought it an entirely reasonable assumption that she'd never hear someone say something like that in her life.

"Love you, too." She responded after a slight delay.

There was another, longer delay before the other conversation even seemed important enough to be worth responding to in comparison.

"I don't really remember what it was like before. I wasn't very old at the time. I think I wanted to go on the deck by my dad was worried I'd fall in the sea."
