Entry tags:gendou, kanaye, maeko

Who: Maeko, Gendou. Kanaye may be hanging around somewhere?
What: OI
Where: Skypark
When: Early evening.
Why: EXCUSE ME COULD YOU STOP LYING.

Maeko wanted Gendou to be responsible for this. Because if he was it meant she hadn't beem quite as gulliable in trusting Misaki ever. It still seemed unlikely, Misaki's blaming him seemed like a stunt to avoid the blame herself, but right now he was the only person who was blameable.

So, dammit, he was being blamed.

She'd told him she needed to talk to him about council business and waited at the skypark. The fact that she could see her appartment block from here was why she'd chosen this meeting place and it was a sign of agression, though not one that was likely to be read. This was her territory. Not the school, where Gendou was boss. She could see her house from here and in Maeko's mind that meant she was in charge.

She sat quietly on a bench, checking through her messages, and waited for Gendou to show up.

"I just don't get it..." Kanaye sighed. "It's easier, yeah, but it won't result in you being happy. I mean, sure, you could say that marriage leads to love, not vice versa...but your parents are living proof that's not true."

"Who cares about what you're meant to be doing?" Kanaye was raising his voice. "What you're meant to be doing and the right thing are completely different! Reizo is doing what he's meant to be doing, and that's not the right thing!" Kanaye stood up and shouted "I'm done with taking orders!"

"That part doesn't really matter all that much. Doing what you're told takes preferance. Happiness is peripheral."

Maeko still wasn't used to talking here, she'd mispronounced a word, as if some idiot had made a typo in a place where it couldn't be easily identified as such. She hadn't meant that as an instuction, or to cause offense.

But part of her was happy about this anyway. She'd sort of almost managed to provoke anger! She quickly quieted that part and the desire to egg Kanaye on further.

"What you're meant to be doing's usually a good guideline for how to behave. But I'm sorry. Please don't shout too much, if someone hears and mentions that people were talking in here then..."

Kanaye just sighed. "You don't get it. No one ever does. If your father told you to do something you absolutely hated, and that it might get you killed...would you do it?"

"...Fine." Kanaye just sat on the couch and pouted. "I don't get why your dad's so uptight about it, though."

"...has someone told you to do something like that?"

After a few seconds of confusing Maeko decided the question was probably hypothetical.

"Probably, yes."

She sat down next to Kanaye, sipped her lemonade and then put it down. "I'm not supposed to bring guests without letting him know first. Or talk in here.

Kanaye was about to answer when Maeko saved him the trouble. "Then...Maeko-chan. I only want what's best for you. And following the orders of your father and mother is not what's best for you. I don't even like Kiriko, but she had the right idea."

"Ah. Why not talk, though? If he's not in the conversation, it just seems like irrational jealousy."

"It may not be best but it's the least likely to earn disapproval." She said, shrugging. "And I owe my family a lot, the least I can do is listen when they request things of me."

"It's just the rule. No talking unless it's a phone call. I never asked why."

"Maeko-chan, my entire existence earns disapproval. I can't exactly get much worse." He shrugged. "I doubt it, given these living conditions. I may not have the best experience, but I don't think you should house a family in something this small."

"It's a stupid rule."

"That doesn't mean she should just not-" Maeko cut her own response off suddenly with a growl. "-What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means I don't think it's healthy for a family to be living in a house like this. I'm not expecting a mansion, but this seems...claustrophobic? If there's another reason you guys are living here, I want to know." Kanaye said hesitantly, as if he was scared.

"We live here because moving out would be difficult. People don't accept disabled tenants, they assume they'll have to make special arrangements for them and decide the whole thing's too much work." Maeko's anger denatured into sulking quickly.

"Besides, I *like* it here anyway."

"...Oh." Glad he managed to defuse that situation, Kanaye nodded. "Well, if you like it..."

He stood up and stretched. "Well, I should probably be going unless you want to show me your room or something."

"You can if you want, it's not like I'm hiding anything in there." Maeko said, deciding she was going to assume that was meant literally because that was the best thing to assume, maintaining her sulk.

Kanaye stumbled a bit. She seriously said yes? Didn't girls have something against showing their rooms to guys? He blinked and shrugged. "If you want."

Kanaye proceeded to walk down the hallway and open the door that Maeko had said was hers.

It was clear which door was Maeko's. If had her name on it, sort of. On a hand-drawn, badly-coloured sign that looked like it was make when she was either very small or for some reason prone to writing characters from her own name poorly.

There wasn't really much more remarkable about the room than its size. It wasn't any bigger than the absolute minimum size it would have to be to house the futon that was currently rolled up at the back of the room when it was unrolled. The walls were covered with pink wallpaper that involved cartoon bunnies and had been drawn on, probably not recently. Additions to the wallpaper involved hats, moustaces and what appeared to be the loch ness monster about to eat one and were collected closer to the floor. There was a a large cupboard at the far end of the room and in front of it two peices of wooden surface were hinged to the wall to serve as table and desk, currently folded flat against the wall and impossible to lower due to the rolled-up futon in the way.

It was tidy (it had to be, at least on the floor, to unroll the futon at night and sleep) and there was a large mesh bag of stuffed toys hung from one wall. Rumpelstiltskin the bear and Jordinel the cat were seated on top of the futon. There was nothing else really notable about it.

Kanaye entered and whistled. This really WAS tiny. It was also rather cute, though. "I have to admit, Maeko-chan, your room is nice." He said, looking at the bear. "These are cute!" He picked it up. "Looks old, though. You had it when you were a kid, eh? You'd be a cute kid, not that you aren't now."

"My dad gave him to me a long time ago. He's from one of his trips. I don't remember where, though."

Maeko had got up from the couch to check that she hadn't left that cat toy out (and she had. figured. at least she could probably jsut say she hadn't put it away yet.) and was stood in the doorway. "He's called Rumpelstiltskin"

She pronounced the unfamiliar word with surprising ease considering how awful her english usually was.

Kanaye was impressed. "You managed to pronounce that? Cool! I don't think I could pronounce that, either!" He looked at the bear again and set it down. "Well, I should be leaving now."

He turned around and smiled. "Thanks for inviting me in, Maeko-chan!" With that, he left quickly.
